The HP book was very satisfying, even though I’ve read only the ending, a little of the beginning, and a little more of the ending.
I won’t give it away.
Unfortunately I stayed up to 3:30 am and I am paying for it this morning. Groan. But it was worth it. Yes, I could have waited until today, but why? The middle of the night is quiet, with no one making demands on me, so I had uninterrupted moments to read.
9 yo was weaving, she was so tired, but she wanted to read some with the big kids, and she did. 11 yo went straight to bed at midnight; she was exhausted. One of the 20-somethings went to bed at 4:30, but she didn’t begin to read until about 3:30. Everyone is just now beginning to stir somewhat.
Very satisfying!
If you’ve read it, we can email vs. writing at my blog. Here, just let me know if you find it satisfying too. JKR is vindicated as a storyteller. It was not disappointing and had just enough twists.
ps 9:13 pm one of the 20-somethings has finished the book. He also felt as I did. I heard him saying to the others as they left for dinner, that he almost cried when it was over. Why, they said, was it sad? I didn’t hear his answer, but I’d say because it is poignant, a relief that it is satisfying, etc. Both of us liked the epilogue less than the book, but hey! that’s all I’m gonna say.

We’re just in the early chapters, wanting to savor every word and make the book last long. thanks for the no spoiler, Karin! How could you start at the ending???
I gotta read the ending first just to know if I’m going to enjoy the book! If I hadn’t liked the ending, I would have had that color the book all the way through. I’m bad, I know. Same for movies. I need to know the ending, especially for scary ones, even on movies I’d never see because they are scary. After I see the preview, I wanna know how it ends even if I’d never consider seeing it.
I know, that’s what I want to do too, savor every word, so I’m finishing another book first, listening in on the Jim Dale reading that my 9 yo is listening to (last night she was on page 199)(she follows along with the book which makes it easier for her, some of the words are hard for her.)
11 yo hasn’t begun it at all yet. She’s in camp this week and will get to it next week, likely the JD version vs. reading it herself.
So far all of us who’ve read it are on the same page re the book. And we pretty much all agree on the epilogue.
It’s hard to see an era come to an end!
I really enjoyed the book..And the fact that I didnt know the ending kept me at the edge of my seat.. I was sooo nervous throughout- thoroughly enjoyed the experience! (though i did find one or two incidents a bit contrived- esp towards the end)
I wish there had been more in the epilogue!
You are braver than I am, L!
But that is one reason why I didn’t want any spoilers, if it would spoil it for others.
Perhaps in a week or so we could have a spoiler topic.
oh..definitely..spoiler topic in a week or 2 sounds good!..hopefully by then it won’t spoil anybody’s fun..(maybe you could hide it under a link or something)
I saw in today’s paper where JKR equated reading the end first to eating pudding first. She doesn’t like it at all.
Oh well!
I think we could do a spoiler topic now, as comments. The comments are hidden unless someone clicks on them. I’ll go start one now.
