I visited Ulta recently while out of town. We do not have one where I live. I went specifically because they carry NYX cosmetics, and I wanted to see the stash in person.
The store was beautiful and new. I expected it to be a typical drug store, but it was more like a Sephora. In addition it had a large wig section in the back where wigs or hair pieces could be styled. There was a huge array of various hair products. I wandered a bit through that section. It offered different products than a Sally’s, for example.
Alas, it had only a small section for NYX, and it did not have the specific colors I wanted to try. You’d probably be better to order directly through NYX or Cherryculture. There were signs up for buy one, get one free, but it did not ring up at the register. They signs were out of date, but they honored it anyway, when I pointed it out, after the fact. It required returning the items and re-ringing.
They have a catalog similar to Sephora’s — and it had a coupon which they tore away, but would not give me. I think they could have, in the interests of making a customer. If they hadn’t made a point of tearing it away and keeping it, it might not have felt quite the same. (I know, most in-store flyers are printed without the coupons, though the ones that come in the newspaper or mail have the coupons.) (And I hadn’t asked for it, just for the catalog, because I wanted to see what it was.)
I likely will make time to stop there whenever I am in that city, as it is very close to other things I do when I am there.
Have you been in an Ulta? is there one where you live?

We have a lovely Ulta in North County — it’s very out of my way, but I’ve been there a couple of times. I think you just had bad staff at yours — my checkout person offered me the coupon and gave me a discount when I opened a card — and some free samples.
The store is HUGE! And the staff is pretty hands-off. At Sephora, I can feel a bit smothered by all the people who want to help me. (Although lately I’ve been getting some fabulous perfume samples from those over-eager helpers, a service not available at Ulta…but then, Ulta is mucho cheaper…)
Any time I do a gig in North County, I try to make a trip to Ulta, but it’s not someplace I’d go out of my way to shop….
That sounds great! I’m looking forward to one opening somewhat near me — it will still be 1/2 hour away, but it would be worth checking it out at least once, when it opens. When I visited a second time, they had some NYX products in stock, but only 1 of each color. Either they don’t order a lot; didn’t receive their full order; or someone had been there before me. I did get a couple of NYX items.
