Sometimes circuitous thinking just gets us, well, in circles that may deepen into ruts.
Another definition I heard once was to think of life not as a ladder, where we climb rungs, so someone is always above or beneath us, but as a circle, where we never know which circuit we are on. So the person behind us may really be in front of us. That gave me some pause for thought and tends to keep us humble.
I liked this definition of circuitous thinking from a friend of mine:
Fortunately, reading in circles is not quite talking the same....Indeed, one can read in opposite directions on a circle to arrive at the same point. But a circuitous argument requires, eh, readoption, of thought. George, with permission
