Some things that make me smile

Sometimes I have to be awake enough to what's going on around me, like Peaceful Warrior, to realize the simple things that make me happy.

I love the various flowering bushes or trees, not to mention the petunias that are cropping up in yards. I love spring.

I love to think of animal sightings as representative of good. This morning the girls saw a possum in the yard when they were doing something else. We don't usually see them except at night.

There are many sandhill cranes here. They are protected. The adults mate for life and walk the neighborhoods with their chick(s.) I love to see them. Cars will stop to let them pass, so you have to be prepared to stop. Only occasionally do they fly, but the other day I saw one fly up over a 4 lane busy road in front of the car in front of me. It was like a gift from God. And it reminded me of the Chinese paintings of cranes that I've seen.

I think we are all thinking of the cranes right now, because the new chicks are hatching, but also because recently two adult cranes were killed by a car; one of their chicks was missing; and the other one died later. No one said anything about the driver, if s/he had stopped or not.

While dropping off the girls at school, several times I've seen a fellow driving in to drop off his child/ren. He's driving a great big ol' truck, has a bad-as* tattoo on his forearm, macho in all respects -- and tucked into his arm is a chocolate chihuahua. I have to smile every time I see him!

We had chihuahuas growing up. They had the largest bark of any small dog. His dog seems very calm, and I've never heard a bark yet.

Whatever happened to Spring Breaks with no school work? College Girl had work. The littles both had work. The littlest had to finish writing and illustrating a story book. Guess who had to type it? Yep, got it in one, me. And she pushes me as she wants it done early.

Bigger girl forgot, supposedly, and left her manuscript at school. So last night it had to be typed and illustrated. Guess who typed that one. Believe it or not, it was her! And she used all 10 fingers, and she knew how to do spell check. It took her a couple of hours. All I had to do was format it into pages. Whooo hooo!! Who knew! (not me). So, this daughter, who doesn't like to draw, had to do 12 pages or so starting at 8:30. She was done by 9:30, and her drawings are so cute!

Meantime, littlest girl says that 'so cute' is not identical to 'good job!' She's not happy, thinking my praise is not the same. Littlest, like College Girl, loves to draw and is taking all week to illustrate her book.
