Van Cleefe and Arpels Oriens is exclusively at Neiman Marcus, for the moment.
Here's the hype:
Inspired by an actual Van Cleef & Arpels tourmaline and diamond ring, Oriens reflects the ever-changing mystery and magic of the exotic silk route to Asia.
The bottle: is really quite lovely, though not as irridescent as the NM ad makes it look.
Here's what they say:
Timelessly elegant, this captivating chypre, floral, fruity scent awakens with subtle, gourmand facets of delicious raspberry, black currant and praline in the top notes. The sun-drenched middle notes of jasmine and fresh cut white flowers bring happiness and well-being. Patchouli in the base leaves a radiant and irresistible impression.
My take:
Save your money on this one. ($110) At least on me, there was no movement to the fragrance. How it started was how it ended, a sort of one note fragrance, despite the number of notes in it. Over all, it is raspberry and patchouli. Definitely a chypre, but this is one I don't like, whereas most chypres I do. Maybe it's the raspberry.
If you want a floral chypre, buy Guerlain Chant d'Aromes, which is far more interesting, at least in my opinion.
I'd give it 1* at best, though when I asked my kids to rate it, after telling them I didn't like it at all, and after it had been on for several hours and all I wanted to do was wash it off, they both said, "It's not that bad."
So, perhaps on you, it will be -- or is -- wonderful.
Do you wear it?
If you wear it and love it, I'd love to know how it wears on you. Does it have movement? Do you simply love the way it starts and ends, regardless of movement or not?
Do you agree with me? or think I'm way off base?
I'd love to hear from you. I prefer Feerie, and I used to wear First.
Here's what my 14 yo says after several hours -- I just asked her again. "I actually like it. I think it smells good." (I don't. I couldn't wear it.)
