Review SEALed with a Ring by Mary Margret Daughtridge

SEALed with a Ring is third in a trilogy (so far) of books about the love stories of a team of Navy SEALS. This is the story of Davy and JJ.

I decided to read it, instead of another Kay Hooper book, as a definite change of pace, because it is a lighter read. Plus it finishes the trilogy.

Davy and JJ met under less than ideal circumstances at the wedding of Pickett and Jax in the book SEALed with a Promise. Davy is the handsome one in the SEALs. He's never met a woman he couldn't have, and he is quite judgmental about women that he wouldn't look at. He's not a bad guy. He's the medic of the group and has a strong sense of responsibility and desire to help others. He noticed JJ during the reception, for her incredible beauty and style, but had to leave for a few minutes. All he wants to do is connect with her, hook up, that night, so he hurries back to the reception.

Meantime JJ has had two bad things happen to her that day (which we find out about in more depth in SEALed with a Ring.) First, her beloved dog died, and she had to bury him. Next her grandfather with whom she lives since the deaths of her parents in a boating accident had issued her an ultimatum: get married before the end of the year (and it has to last at least a year) or he will sell off the car dealership in which she has invested her life.

She is furious with him and can't find a way out. He isn't the ogre he appears to be, but he is old school and an old codger. He realizes he should have seen to it that she had more of a life than work. He can't figure out any other way to make it happen. He offers her the choice of 4 men, one of which he knows is not the best choice. (And unknown to her, he has offered, and will offer, money and inducements to at least two of the men.)

As Davy re-enters the hotel, JJ is hurrying to leave, and they literally run into each other in the hall. Sparks fly, and totally uncharacteristic of her, and life-be-damned, she goes back to his hotel for the hottest sex she (or likely he) has ever had. While he is sleeping, she tries to leave, but he wakes up. She threatens him with her stiletto. Of course, he could overpower her, but he never would.

He feels awful the next day. He doesn't even know her name. That seems to point out to him how nameless his women have been and how little respect he has really had for them. He had never seen himself in that light. She is kicking herself for much the same reasons.

He tries to find her, but no one seems to know her. He vows another tour in Afghanistan.

SEALed with a Ring starts off with a fast pace and never lets you down. Davy wakes from a dream wherein he sees his own death. He accepts that he will die that day, not a bad way to go, he thinks, doing something he loves.

But he doesn't die. He saves his team from an ambush and is injured and airlifted to Germany. He is left with the residual of a brain injury and a scar on his cheek and headaches that vary from difficult to worse. He has large spaces in his memory and difficulty with numbers. He is on medical leave. He can't quite remember what happened with him and JJ, but he has dreams and deja-vu.

Then he attends the wedding of Emma and Do-Lord (whose story we got in the second book.) JJ has also agreed to attend, this time with Emma's old sorta-beau. JJ doesn't know the backstory. But he is a thoroughly unlikable guy. She just misses the signs and interprets them differently. She thinks she will agree to marry him that night.

But as fate would have it, Davy sees her and their story is off and running.

Of course, you know it ends well!

There is a bit more about SEAL activity in this book than in the others, but it is definitely a love story and lots of very well written hot sex.

I give the book 5 out of 5. I hope she writes another in the series. I had thought perhaps we would see the story of Lon and Lauren -- and perhaps we will. There are other peripheral characters that could come to the front.

Have you read this book or any of the series?
If not, and you like this genre, you will love the book.

The book is available for Kindle.
