Review NYX Lips Reds

NYX Lips makes some glorious reds. The formula is moisturizing, but not migrating, which is good when it comes to reds.

Interestingly enough, I like myself best in blue reds. But men are said to be more attracted to -- and notice more -- warm reds.

Most of these reds are straight up out of the tube, but I've included one picture where I softened it with lip balm and link to another post of mine where I combined a red with other lip products.

Warm, Autumn Red
Cocoa Hard to know whether to place this with reds or browns.
It felt and looked this quite brown on me, but would be a lovely shade for fall. There was enough red in it to keep it from being totally brown. My 11 yo spontaneously said: I love that lipstick on you.

NYX Electra You can see another view of this in combo with other colors here.

Straight out of the tube. This is a bright, lovely warm red. The longer it was on, the bluer it became.

Snow White
What an appropriate name for this color! My 20-something daughter stopped mid-sentence and said: oh, I love that color on you. OTOH, I felt it was too much, applied straight up.

Snow White12 hours later, after sleeping, with just balm over what was left. This shows how long lasting the colors are. I didn't do any clean up around my lips, just put on balm.

Blue Reds
Hebe
This is a glorious red. It didn't drift into any lip lines at all.

Black Reds
Rapture
A very pretty, almost black red, more blue than not.

My take
For whatever reasons, I am most comfortable wearing reds closer to Christmas or at night. Remember I live in a really hot area too. Perhaps if it got colder earlier, I'd haul out my red outfits sooner too.

I am very fair skinned and reds just look too much on me most of the time, I think. I can wear more muted autumn reds year round because they are softer, but they look too much like fall to wear in the spring and summer.

Also, I have fine lines around my lips, as did my father, so I have to be careful with darker shades. I'd rather wear a lighter shade where drifting doesn't show, than a darker color that has migrated. It only draws attention to a problem most would not be aware of.

And I'm more comfortable now with a sheerer lip gloss sort of look, so when I wear these not to show swatches, I will sheer them down so I wear them year round. To do this, I will either combine with lipgloss or use very little, then highlight or rim.

They have lovely lasting power and do not migrate.

I give them a 5.

Where are they available? Regularly priced at $4.
Ulta sells them in their stores, but not online. Online, they are available from Cherry Culture or MsCuppyCakes. Check out NYX's sales too. Sometimes they are available for remarkable prices.

How about other colors and swatches?
You can see more swatches of other colors from me here and from Meredith here.

Do you wear reds?
Which do you prefer on yourself -- blue reds or warm reds? Do you wear reds year round?
