Knightley Academy by Violet Haberdasher (a pseudonym) is a wonderful book for young adult readers. If you liked Harry Potter, you will love Knightley Academy. Whoo hoo!

And it reminds me in some ways of Bran Hambric, which I also reviewed.

Knightley Academy concerns the story of Henry Grim, an orphan who is a servant at the Midsummer School, when a prestigious exam is opened to commoners, for the first time, for possible inclusion in Knightley Academy, a school for boys that prepares them for offices of knightly service, such as being a policeman. It teaches them chivalry, fencing, Latin, French, mathematics, science and medicine.

Of course, as luck would have it, Henry is a very bright boy who has been secretly studying with Professor Stratford for the past year. He aces the exam with flying colors and is offered a spot.

Of course, there are machinations behind the scenes. Henry's winning has overturned the expectations of Valmont who becomes an enemy -- then Valmont is offered a spot at the academy too.

Among the other commoners admitted that year are Adam, a Jewish boy, and Rohan, an Indian boy adopted into an upper class family. They become roommates and fast friends.

The book has it all: subterfuge, looming war, hidden weapons' room, evil professor(s)... and Frankie, a young girl, the daughter of the head master, who is tutored at home because she can't seem to be girlish enough in a time when men ruled. She is a great character.

I understand that a trilogy is in the works. I would definitely go see it if it were a movie.

Have you read the book?
It is also available for Kindle.m I give it 4 out of 4.
