Review: How to train your dragon

I took the kids to see How to train your dragon when it came out in the theaters. Of course, now it is available on DVD.

It got 3* in our paper, and after seeing it, we would give it 4*. The theater was full, which only goes to show that people are hungry for a good movie, even one they could take their children to.

It has everything: humor, love, parent-child relations, Vikings, friendship, action, and is beautifully animated. It held our interest and the interest of the children in the audience. It was a good story, with a good message, and not didactic.

Excellently voiced by Gerald Butler, Jay Baruchel, and America Ferrara as well as all the others, it was a pleasure to experience.

My take:

I'd see it again -- and maybe I will. We all want to own it when it comes out on DVD. I thought how wonderful the differences in the new animation, compared to the original animation. How far we have come. And yet at each point in time we enjoyed what there was, but we can never go back. The new animation is simply superb.

Have you seen it?
Did you like it as much as we did? There were children of all ages in the theater. While there are some scenes perhaps too difficult for very young children, even those children were kept occupied by the story.

If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and enjoy a time away.

I just adore this movie! I love the training and the interaction with the dragon. I give it 4.5 Stars out of 5! I hear it is very different from the book(s).
