Review: Harry’s Law (TV)

in Comedy, Legal, TV

Harry's Law is one of those mid-season TV enjoyments, billed as a comedy legal-drama. And you know with David E. Kelley being the writer, it has to be better than most.

Harry is Harriet Korn, played by Kathy Bates, who does a terrific job and looks wonderful. She just gets better and better. Harry is one of her more likable characters. She reminds me of a friend of mine, in her demeanor, though my friend doesn't carry a gun (that I know of.)

The Story
Harry is a gun-toting top-notch patent lawyer who is disillusioned with her work. She's lost her zest for it and for life. And her day gets worse. Fired from her job, she has two (funny) accidents in one day (which they replay) that lead her to a new occupation: ghetto lawyer in an office that once housed a shoe store.

The characters
Soon she has a comrade in arms: Adam Branch (Nathan Corddry) and her previous assistant Jenna (Brittany Snow) [they could use her more, as she is someone we really like to see more of]; as well as someone she is training to be a paralegal Malcome Davies (Aml Ameen) and a protector, Damian Winslow (Johnny Ray Gill) as well as a couple of judges and the DA... some of whom will be on-going characters.

Possible negatives
Some of the speeches are a bit political, as it refers to poverty, etc. which is what you would expect.

Positives
Everything else.

It's 2.5 - 3 * and worth catching, just for the acting.

Have you seen it?
