There isn't an abortion, for example. My daughter and her friend both thought it was gritty -- didn't like to see him almost commit suicide, etc. I think in some ways our view of life is grittier -- that it would get a PG and not a PG 13. But I can't remember the first one to compare the dancing, etc. The story line, dancing and singing and the relationship with the teachers is well done.
