Book Girl, 12 yo daughter, and I went to see this movie the other day. We didn't make the midnight showing, but we went to a showing the afternoon of the first day. It 's not quite the same as watching it with a lot of die-hard (pun intended) fans.
My take
This is my favorite of the 3 films so far. I much preferred the acting of Bella and Edward in this one to the other ones, where it was pretty wooden. I think the characters are more comfortable in their parts. I will likely see it again, dunno if I will buy the DVD, but Book Girl will. I'll give it 4 out of 5 stars.
I was afraid it would be way too scary for me, but I did fine. Some of the movie trailers were far more scary than the movie. It has motivated me to reread the book more carefully.
Which team are you?
Count me in for Team Jacob, but honestly this movie could make me a liar. Edward is much cuter in this movie. He actually smiles, and more than once!
The story continues
I trust you all know the story. Our favorite characters are all here: Bella, Edward, Jacob, the school friends, Bella's dad and even her mother. Then you have the Vulturi who show up and the Newborns. Riley is terrific in his part, poor vamp that he is, taken in by Victoria. The new Victoria is very good in her part. I had a lot of empathy for the Newborn given assylum. For her few minutes of screen time, she is memorable.
My favorite scenes
I do love Bella's dad. He manages to make every scene of his count. Poor man, who is utterly clueless as to what is happening with his own daughter who he dearly loves.
The CGI with the werewolves is excellently done, so much better than that spindly werewolf Lupin in Harry Potter. Every scene with the wolves is perfect.
I loved the tent scene.
And of course, there is love. It's tough being the object of a triangle -- or being in a love triangle -- but it happens. The love is more believable in this movie than in the first two movies.
Have you seen this movie?
Will you go? Did you like the first two? Are you a fan of the books? Which team are you, if you are?
