Dragon Flight by Jessica Day George is the second book in a 3 book series. The first is Dragon Slippers which I also reviewed.
Once again, Creel is called upon to save the day, and save it she does in great style, love, and courage, along with her friend Marta, who also works with her in her dressmaker's shop.
This time dressmaking takes a second place. There's not so much written about it, but it is key in saving the dragons.
In a far country, dragons have been enslaved by alchemy. No one has known about this, not even other dragons, until it is learned that war will take place. The object is to go through one country and end up capturing Feravel, the country that Creel comes from.
It is thought that the foreign king has enslaved a great dragon. But nothing can be farther from the truth. The truth is that the great dragon has enslaved the king -- and all the other dragons -- because he wants to be king of the dragons himself and depose Shardas, his own brother.
This book is as good as the first. The action is fast. Some of the writing is almost poetic.
Nine dragons came from a cave to the south of the city. Nine dragons, gleaming in the moonlight, with bright eyes and silken wings. p 137
Luca and Creel, once again, make a great team, even when separated. Marta and Tobin also factor in heavily. The description of their wedding is quite magical.
Shardas and his mate, Velika, queen of the dragons show their true mettle.
My take
I highly recommend this book series. It is as suitable for adults, as it is for young readers. I hope it is made into a movie -- or two -- or three. I give it 5 out of 5.
I especially love the strong heroine and the strength and courage shown by Marta in this book. I like the loyalty they have to each other and how their friendship strengthens them both.
Have you read any of these books?
