College Girl, one of her friends, and I went to see Ocean's 13 last night. It isn't Tolstoy, but it's fun, as we knew it would be. It's worth it to see Matt Damon's disguise; George Clooney in a tux; Al Pacino as the casino owner you love to hate; Elliot Gould; Chinese spoken and supposedly understood; Ellen Barkin (College Girl thought she looked really good); the scene between Ellen and Matt...
Cross and double-cross and double-cross again. It's nice to see a movie where no one gets blown up. We felt sorry for the poor guy sent to do the rating of the casino, until he gets more than he bargained for where it evens out.
I'd probably give it a solid **, not ***.
Have you seen it?

Yeah, it was lots of fun, wasn’t it?
I enjoyed some comedic touches that were subtle : the “cougar” tag mentioned supposedly read at Maxim, the machine that dug the british channel “from the french side” (LOL! that they had to say from the french side to diferentiate from the other one), the pheromonic fragrance allegedly luring in the gal (hey, let’s not forget!), the poor guy who was in for the evaluation and the torture he went through (empathy was not their strong suit I gather)…..
I kinda felt bad about E.Barkin though: they pictured her “hard” somehow (I mean in her appearence) and she deserved better I thought.
A lot of the comic touches were subtle. Nearly all the main characters took a hit (good hit) with self-depreciating tongue in cheek humor — which of course makes it more fun for the viewer when you know they see the humor in it too.
Yes, that fragrance touch was fun. I didn’t know what was happening at the time he put the patch on. Or even at first — I thought maybe it would make her pass out.
How’d you like the motorcycle bit — and the teeth! Fun!
I give Ellen credit for playing her part with comic flair in a way that wasn’t entirely flattering. It’s hard to be a woman of a certain age. She has a great figure, as always.
Now Al Pacino looked fabulous.
Yup, they all played with gusto! And it made it all the more fun for it.
The motorcycle man with the teeth with the american flag painted on, huh? HILARIOUS!! LOL
Ellen did play her part brilliantly (she’s a good actress IMO). I think it was the stylist that did her a disservice: easing up on the fake tan (she has lovely fair skin), the goopy lip gloss and the hard lighing would do wonders for her. Still she has a killer figure! I agree.
I agree with Ellen and the gusto from all. I loved that red dress, though!
Brad Pitt as the scientist was hilarious. Whoever did his makeup and clothes did a great job.
Of course, I love the energy of Las Vegas. It makes me want to go, today! I don’t gamble; I window shop and love to walk out on the strip at night and see the lights.
