College Girl saw this film on Friday night and called to say we needed to see it as it is so cute and well done. Meantime, I've heard at another list that one parent didn't know what it was about, so was surprised by it and not happy. We have not seen it yet.
Meantime, I got the following message from another friend. If it opens a dialogue with our kids, it can't be all bad.
I took both girls to "Meet the Robinsons" in digital 3d yesterday. It's rated G.
Fun. You get to keep the 3d glasses and they are much nicer than the old cardboard with cellophane ones we got way back when. It's fun. Kind of "Back to the Future" and "Annie" as done by the creators of Rolie POlie Olie.
The part that had me worried was that it deals with a boy in an orphanage who has been through 124 prospective parent interviews but never adopted. The movie opens with the birth mother abandoning the baby on the steps of the orphanage.
After so many rejections the boy is REALLY interested in finding his birth mother. Not usual cartoon fare. But trust me, it's adoption freindly and doesn't demonize birth parents, either.
On the way out my older girl shared with me what she fantasizes about HER birth parents and why she was abandoned. It's great that there is a mainstream film, rated G, that brings up adoption, abandonment, birth families etc in a positive feeling way.
It's a cartoon, not a heavy film, fun for all. But the abandonment/orphanage/family angle may mean our kids will get asked about it at school and such. I'd reccomend seeing it with them.
