I think most of us tend to discount our small moments, thinking they don't amount to much. But over time, these moments mount up.
I've been listening to a tape series on comparative religions (God and Mankind: Comparative Religions) from The Teaching Company by Professor Robert Oden, at that time President of Kenyon College. This is the second time I received a catalog in the mail from TTC, each time with a sample CD. Turns out my neighbor has a slew of these, plus the library has a number of them. This is a set he loaned to me.
Anyway on one of the talks, Oden mentions the subject of Karma. He said it was accumulative not individual, so effectively, it is the whole of the positive things we have done in our lives, balanced against the negatives. I think I had always thought of it as individual events, not accumulative. (These are my words, not his, except for the word accumulative.)
Whew! (or I hope whew!)
Anyway, all of us can do the small things; only a few of us are called to do larger. But we can be a gentle influence in our own spheres. And many times, if we are not told how we've helped someone, we don't know that we have.
