Keep your children’s writings safe so they can piece together their road map

For so long, I've forgotten about the poetry in me. I wish I had my old poems, written with teen eyes; my mother threw them away in a fit of rage--they disconcerted her. I think those poems raged against loss, sheathed in rage. Parents--keep everything your child writes and draws for later, when they can piece together the roadmap of their journey.

Poetry is easier sometimes, for me, when I'm writing of difficult things. Eun Mi, adult adoptee from Korea, at IAT with permission.
