I am beginning a series of Le Jardin Retrouvé perfume reviews at cologneperfumefragrance.
Yuri Gutsatz is the founder of this parfum house. I had never heard of Gutsatz prior to being given samples of his fragrances. I'm glad his son is keeping his memory and his work alive.
I particularly like the idea he expresses here about needing imagination and audacity to be a parfumer:
Perfumers should not let themselves be permanently deprived of their creative initiative - this was the prerogative of French perfumery during several generations, and the origin of its renown and greatness. They should not be transformed into robots chained to a mountain of imitations! To avoid this, there is only one issue - to show proof of imagination and audacity! All too often today I think we are being given mountains of imitations -- how could they not, when upwards of 800 new fragrances come out yearly! Once upon a time I wanted to smell them all, but no longer! Give me only the best of the lot, seriously!
