A friend posted this on another list. It was the first time I'd heard of it. I am touched by it on a variety of levels. There's something to be said for having a community custom where all who wish are involved.

Happy New Year to all! May yours be prosperous and happy.

Everyone rings the bell, 108 times total. takes 108 reverberations to symbolically wipe the slate clean. Nobody counts, Everybody rings the bell, little kids, big old grown-up kids... a new year awaits. --G

I wish I had a bell to ring like this. I love the idea of a symbolic way to wipe the slate clean and start fresh.
