Doing without — can be doing with

Recently Book Girl and I were heading out of the country via Atlanta airport, which just happened to be snowed in right after we arrived.

Due to a lot of fortuitous circumstances and very helpful people and a lot of perseverance and crisscrossing the Atlanta airport more times than we care to remember -- and sleeping in the airport for readiness -- we managed to get a flight out of the country to our original destination (through additional canceling, as well as, postponed flights) with an additional airport stop in Cancun on our way to Buenos Aires.

In Cancun, not finding our luggage, it was more important to get to our connecting flight -- and off we went to another terminal. Of course, we were told our luggage would make it.

And, of course, it did not.

But the important thing was to get to Buenos Aires. And we had.

That afternoon, a day late, we boarded our cruise to Antarctica.

The luggage truly didn't matter to me. It was only important to make the boat.

And while our adventure continued at the highest level, even taking in the adventure getting to where we were, perhaps the best was yet to come with the kindness of strangers who gave us the best they had to offer.

We did not do without -- though we were minus our own things.

And along the way we met interesting people and encountered friendships and sheer human goodness. And we had a blast!

What a blessing!

Hi Karin,
I had almost, “almost” repressed the memory of our last luggage nightmare, until now. (Shuddering)
I’m sorry that things didn’t quite go as planned, but I’m glad you still made the best from your circumstances, while salvaging your vacation.
