in Just thinking, Quotations

Nothing is ever lost by courtesy. It is the cheapest of pleasures, costs nothing, and conveys much. Erastus Wiman

Do hurrying and courtesy cancel out each other?

Or does courtesy make the day flow better?

I know I strive for courtesy. For me, it does make the day flow better.

Even if a driver needs to be saved from him/herself, I usually verbalize a little thanks that someone else was watching out, even as I have been saved by others on occasion.

Sometimes it's the little courtesies and niceties that might make the biggest mark. I remember a day when I complimented an older woman on how nice she looked. She said it was the first compliment she'd had in 20 years. (I felt so badly about that!) She was usually at home taking care of her husband, but she had someone to stay with him that day.

I was grateful she had told me. Otherwise I never would have known what my sincere remark meant to her. Or how important it was that I said it.

Find something or someone to compliment today and see what happens.
