March 11th, 2010 — Aromaleigh, Brows, Concealer, Eye liner, FOTD, Foundation, Guerlain, Highlighting, Jordana, Lipstick, Mascara, Meow, Mineral, NYX, Pencils, Rouge or blush
I felt like bright turquoise today, and that made me think immediately of the colors that Aromaleigh has.
Eyes: all Aromaleigh, except where noted:
Crease: caribe, pure hue
Outer corners: aqua nightmare, gothic lolita
Inner corners: endless sea, rocks! sonic eyes
Drylined upper and lower: moonagedaydream, rocks! sonic eyes
Tight Lined upper and wet lined lower: Jordana Sterling Blue
Brows: Clinique soft blonde pencil
Mascara: Guerlain Le2 (double sided with small brush for lower lashes)

Foundation: Lancome minerals — still trying to figure out how — and how much — to use; see how funky my nose looks here? I saw it in sunlight and took care of it. Generally I leave everything off my nose for this reason.
Powder: Lancome minerals
Highlight: AL magnolia blossom
Blush: AL english rose (a powder, not a blush, that didn’t show up, so used it across my face, lightly)
Blush: Meow Masterpiece Water Lilies

Lips:
NYX Lips Hebe — this one doesn’t migrate. It’s got a lovely sheen to it, doesn’t feel slippery — and it doesn’t move into liplines around the mouth.

February 12th, 2010 — Allure Choice Award, Aromaleigh, Bare Escentuals, Brows, Chanel, Cosmetics, Equal opportunity customer, FOTD, Foundation, Highlighting, Lancome, Lip Gloss, Mary Kay, Mascara, Meow, NYX, Pencils, Review, Rouge or blush, Victoria Jackson
This is a little more of a made up look than I’ve been wearing lately, but it is really the same amount of product. I could tweak it with a little glitter on my lips, but wanted to show it as-is.
I wanted to try a few E.L.F. products because they are so inexpensive.
Mineral Shadows
The mineral shadows come in the same jar as BE and are about the same size. They compare favorably with BE. They are not as sparkly as AL or Meow, at least the colors I chose. The minerals were the most expensive of any of the products I ordered — $3 each for full size.
Lip liner pencils
The pencils are called Feather-Proof Moisturizing Lip Liner. It has not migrated. For $1, it is worth trying. They have a pretty good mix of colors, most of them are fairly neutral with nuances of color. Spice is not at all orange, but more of a true neutral. I like it, even though it wasn’t what I ordered.
Waterproof pen liner:
This worked well yesterday. The felt tip is sharper (in feel) and dryer than the Mary Kay one that I loved that is discontinued. I forgot to try the black today. I used Midnight yesterday and it did well. Again, $1.

Eyes: All dry except where noted
Base: Trish McEvoy, then my beige sparkly mix
Crease: E.L.F. Caffeinated mineral
Outer corners: E.L.F. Glamorous mineral
Inner Corner: Meow because photo made it look matte, which it doesn’t in RL — don’t know why the camera does this — and of course, in RL you don’t go around with one eye closed; it is a flash of color when you blink.

Drylined E.L.F. Royal mineral, top and lower outside pencil line, then wetlined on top, very pretty wetlined
Pencil lined, top and bottom (no MAC, LOL) E.L.F. Plum brightening eye liner
Mascara: top BE Buxom; lower Lancome Definicils
Brows: Victoria Jackson pencil
Face:
Comparing Lancome foundation on one side and Chanel on the other
Revlon Primer
E.L.F. Persimmon Shimmering Facial Whip glimmer up middle of face (this would be good to give your face color in winter or whenever you needed a pick-me-up, placing it differently on your face)
E.L.F. Spice Lined lips and filled in (they sent me this by mistake, not the one I ordered, but I thought I’d try it anyway)
E.L.F. Blossom Hypershine Lip Gloss
E.L.F. Bitter Went over lip line and inside with
E.L.F. Pink Lemonade All Over Color Stick (such a cute little size, almost a sample)
And my glimmer powder mix.
Shimmering Facial Whip: this is a nice product and comes in several shades. The browner ones would be good for getting a tanned look without being in the sun. I might try one of those next. This has an Allure Choice Award.
Multipurpose, on-the-go whipped colorant is vitamin B, C and E packed to instantly brighten and sooth skin with no greasy after-feel.
Squeeze a pearl-sized [more like a dot] amount onto finger and blend into cheeks, eyes, or lips.
Hypershine Gloss
This was not as visible as some glosses I own. It has some taste, but it was not at all objectionable. I punched it up with more lip liner. I intentionally chose a neutral, as well as to the color range I don’t usually buy. If you can’t do that for $1, when can you?
Hyper, glass-like shine infused with micro-mirror technology to reflect light. Smooths lips on contact with a conditioning shine that lasts for hours. Create that natural lip stain of color that’s sheer, subtle and beautiful!
Wet Gloss Lash & Brow Clear Mascara
Book Girl has gorgeous thick lashes that almost brush her sunglasses. Any colored mascara looks mascara-y. I thought this might give her some definition, but still look natural. She tried it yesterday, and it worked well.
Achieve glossy, shiny, healthy-looking lashes and brows with the infused long wearing conditioning agents in our wet gloss lash & brow mascara. Looking pulled together has never been easier!
Today she is using the AL clear mascara. She says this went on with more product on the first application. Both feel equally light.
All over color stick This would be good for airplane travel.
This worked well. It’s quite a darling little size. I wouldn’t mind an array of colors. I would think this would work better for dry skin than for oily.
Duo Eye Shadow Cream
This is the only product I bought that I haven’t tried yet. I thought I might try it as a dark base under minerals.
My opinion, you can’t go wrong for the price.
The actual packaging, not of the product, but of the containers is not as rich as NYX. NYX has more of the look of MAC.
These are not as high-glam or as Indie in appearance when on as AL or Meow, but some items, like the lip pencils, are more than favorable for drugstore lines, especially for price.
I think my girls would enjoy having some of this. It would make good stocking stuffers. Or even birthday favors.

IdealEyes description
My view: They are pearlized, not frosted, with a high sheen, so I felt I could work with the dark colors on my fair skin. There would be enough light reflected that they would work well. While a little dark for day for spring, they matched my shirt and I wanted to try them.

They’re available in a full range of color choices, with a rich, creamy consistency that clings to the brush for easy and smooth long wearing application. December 4th, 2009 — Aromaleigh, Bare Escentuals, Comparing, Fyrinnae, Mary Kay, Meow, Review
I just realized that I’ve never done a formal review of Aromaleigh shadows, though if you follow my blog, you know I like to wear them.
I’ve never met an AL shadow that I didn’t like, and most of them I truly love. I found AL through mention at another list I’m on. After seeing several highly complimentary mentions, and going to the website several times, I took the plunge to order a few samples. The rest is history.
What I like most
What I particularly like about AL shadows is their radiancy and brightness — even the darker colors — which sounds like an oxymoron. The dark colors have life to them. They aren’t drab.
I find for my own eye, I like the luminosity of AL shadows. It is more flattering on an older eye than mattes, though AL has some beautiful lit-with-light mattes right now. I haven’t tried any of them. I do have a set of AL Carolina mattes.
The different collections are beautiful. The difference in appearance, the luminosity, can be similar, yet unique to the particular collection. The descriptions on the website are very accurate.
Easy to apply
They are very easy to apply. They go on smooth, last all day, and the colors are amazing.
Compared to other brandsI have bought several other brands of mineral shadows.
Bare Escentuals
Bare Escentuals were the first minerals I found and tried. They are easy to find. At the time, I wasn’t sure how easy it would be to work with loose pigments, but I’ve found I like it even better than working with pressed shadows. The technique is a bit different, but not much. The key is to know how much to pick up on your brush.
I like BE shadows a lot, and I have many. I reach more for AL right now. BE might be your Cadillac, and AL is the Lexus or Jag. AL is more edgy.
Fyrinnae
Fyrinnae requires a different technique of application. You must dab the pigments, not sweep them, though you can do some blending by sweeping after the color is on. If I worked with them more, I’d probably reach for them more.
Fyrinnae, to me, is more cutting edge as far as some colors than AL. I reach for AL more. I haven’t tried to work with both together, though I might try that this week.
Meow
Nice colors; easy to apply. I like what I’ve chosen very much. The colors are different from AL and just as nice.
Mary Kay
Mary Kay minerals are pressed (except for this last Holiday batch which came in a wand applicator.) The regular line colors are pretty. They are easy to use. I wasn’t too crazy about the Holiday line. I much prefer the array and look of AL to the MK Holiday colors.
Other brands
Well, I have a few miscellaneous shadows around that don’t bear mentioning.
I also haven’t decided if I will try any other brands, because I’m not sure I see a point. OTOH, there are a lot, lot, lot of Indie companies out there.
AL sales
AL has weekly sales. That’s a good time to pick up full sizes of any samples that you want a full size of. During the sales, the samples are discounted too, so it’s a very good time to try out several samples or colors you might not think you could wear. Because, most likely you will find you can wear them beautifully.

November 17th, 2009 — Aromaleigh, Bare Escentuals, Fyrinnae, Mary Kay, Meow, Mineral
Since there are a bazillion different mineral eye shadow companies abounding, how do you choose which brands you will investigate to wear, if you wear mineral eye shadows?
Repackaging
I understand there are companies that only repackage. I’d prefer not to buy those, and I don’t think I have, but I wouldn’t mind if I had made an informed choice to do so. That’s what’s behind Mineral Makeup Mutiny.
Companies I wear:
Aromaleigh
As anyone knows who has been reading my blog, I love Aromaleigh (which I found via a perfume site.) AL is really cutting edge in my book.
Meow
I also like Meow. The colors are lovely, including the blushes.
Fyrinnae
Fyrinnae is lovely, but different in application techniques. Also cutting edge.
Bare Escentuals
Additionally, I like and own many Bare Escentuals shadows and facial colors. BE may not be quite as cutting edge as AL, but they have some beautiful sets.
Mary Kay
Most of MK’s minerals are pressed, which have their place. All of the above companies’ minerals are loose. I don’t consider MK minerals to be cutting edge. They are better than average, but they are more mainstream. Their 2009 Fall/Xmas shadows come in a wand and are loose, but I didn’t care for the look when I tried them, albeit I did not have my proper brushes with me.
Outside of these companies, are there others which are not on my radar screen?
Do you find that you can wear some brands, but others you are sensitive to?
Why do you love them?
Are there any you’d like to see me work with?

November 11th, 2009 — Aromaleigh, Bare Escentuals, Beauté, FOTD, Lip Gloss, Lipstick, Meow, Purples
The trouble with having so many choices is that it is difficult to make a choice! I started out thinking of one thing, and ended up with another, quite happily I might add, but making the choice was just one too many choices today. Is it boring to have only one choice — or is it supremely simplifying? Don’t answer that!
I so totally did not know what I wanted to do. But I was happy with it, when I was done. I thought I was going to do AL, then saw the bag of Meow samples and changed my mind. Somthin’ simple.
Base: Nude Frost, then BE Queen Phyllis
Lids: Meow Amy F ScandalEyes (Pale rose)
Crease and dry lined: Meow Jessica R ScandalEyes (Grape)

Blush: Meow Water Lilies Masterpiece

Lips: AL Smitten, rimmed and up the center with Beauté Heroine

Have you tried either Aromaleigh or Meow eye shadows?
I like them both. Each of them apply very easily. I have way more AL than Meow, simply because I started with AL and her colors are so gorgeous.

I’ve been captivated by the current ads for Maybelline Smokey Eyes. The Emerald Smokey Eye ad was simply gorgeous, so I thought I would use some colors I already have to get a similar look.
Green is always a good color with my eyes, whether teals, avocado, or khaki. And I hadn’t tried these samples from Meow yet.
Eyes:
Base: MAC Luna, then Meow
Lids: Meow Leona H ScandalEyes, sage green –brighter avocado
Crease and drylined top and bottom: Sourpuss Purrl IdealEyes, olive green with bronze shimmer — looks like deeper avocado
Tightlined: MAC blackgraph with earthline on the bottom

Lips: All Arbonne
Illusion Lipstick + Gleam Prep and Plump — then lined with Nice to give it definition

What do you think?
I thought this turned out well. It’s a lovely neutral, not as vibrant as the Maybelline quad which I decided to buy.
Here’s what it looks like:

Target’s prices are better than Walgreen’s, but Target did not have the Emerald quad.

I love Aromaleigh shadows; they are just beautiful. I’m not sure I’ve ever worn this sample (Dew) before, but it looked like it matched my T so I decided to try it. It almost looks matte in the baggie, but it is shimmery on, but not glittery.
Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost
Lids: Meow Nicole S ScandalEyes light bright pink, then AL Dew pure hue
Drylined: AL Lagoon carolina summer matte, then I wanted it a little stronger but not green, added AL Disintegration rocks!glam glitter — would have been good to have done this after the pencil liners below, it would have showed up more, and I like glitter!
Tightlined: Upper and lower: MAC graphblack, then added lower MAC earthline It’s been a while since I’ve used these. Of course, I blinked and smeared the graphblack, then to fix it, I decided to use the MAC brush made to smudge pencils. I liked the look because it isn’t as hard as a hard black — I worried a little about that choosing these pencils again. I like this technique, even if I wouldn’t have done it except by necessity.
Brows: La Prairie pencil
Mascara: Covergirl Eyelights

Primer: Arbonne
Foundation: Arbonne
Rouge under powder: Revlon
Powder: Guerlain meteorites
Blush: Meow Waterlily Masterpiece blush — such a pretty soft color
Highlight: AL Magnolia Blossom up the center of my face

Lips: Arbonne Legend + Whisper Legend applied more like a stain, lightly, since it is a deep burgundy brown, the Whisper on top of both, which I rarely do, since I like to keep the tube clean + with a lip brush Arbonne FYI Vogue gloss (very similar to one by Stila, but a lot less money)+ rimmed with Beauté Paramour gloss

What do you think?
I was really happy with the way this turned out.

July 29th, 2009 — Arbonne, Bare Escentuals, Brows, Chanel, DuWop, Eye Shadow, FOTD, Foundation, Lipstick, Mary Kay, Mascara, Meow, Mineral, Primer
This was my look Tuesday. Mary Kay minerals are really quite lovely. I was happy with the way this turned out. I was still thinking of the Arbonne Audrey and Smokey Eyes sets. So this is a combo of the ideas using Mary Kay.
Eyes:
I pretty much mixed the colors as I went.
Base: Nude Frost
Lids: Mary Kay Light Beige, then brown and medium blue
Drylined top and lower: medium blue
Mascara: Guerlain Le2
Concealer: Dior Skinflash
Brows: Chanel pencil

Primer: always, but I forgot which one
Foundation: Chanel
Powder: Guerlain meteorites
Blush: Meow Masterpiece Water Lilies + Bare Escentuals Cheerful

Lips: Arbonne Legend + Arbonne Bubblegum each on one lip, then smooshed — Oh, I like this! DuWop reverse liner outside.

To buy Arbonne from Bookgirl, if you don’t have a representative, just ask.

July 21st, 2009 — Aromaleigh, Avon, Bare Escentuals, Beauticontrol, Brows, Chanel, Clinique, Concealer, Eye Shadow, Eye liner, FOTD, Foundation, Highlighting, Lancome, Lipstick, MAC, Mary Kay, Mascara, Meow, Mineral, Pencils, Primer, Rouge or blush, Sheer Cover
This was yesterday’s FOTD. A friend gave me more Sheer Cover, including another palette of these eye shadows. I remember how much I loved the look earlier, they are a lovely natural look (the palette has both cool and warm shades.) This is the cool. I wanted to try out the new eye shape again to see how it fared with this palette. I’m not used to such natural looks!
Another 5 min makeup. It was quick and easy and summery. It was a little hard to get the eye shape to define because the colors are so natural.
I used MK mascara and for some reason it drifted. That usually doesn’t happen. It seemed smudgy all day.
Base: Beauticontrol pink cream
Liner: MAC white tightlined top and wetlined bottom. Avon Gilded Grapepencil lined under eye — almost a brown. MAC Smolder pencil — blackest black — lined on top.
Brows: Chanel duo powder.
Concealer: YSL Touch Eclat

Primer: Sheer Cover
Foundation: Lancome minerals (and their powder) on dry brush, then spritzed with Clinique Moisture Surge before applying. I like this application.
Blush: BE Vintage Peach + Meow Water Lilies
Highlight: Beauticontrol Pink Powder (with shimmer) + AL Magnolia Blossom

Lips:
base: SCA hyaluronic pen
Guerlain 08 lined with Guerlain Rose Indien pencil

What did you do for makeup? Are you finding you want quick and easy for summer?
I promised myself on Sunday that I wouldn’t do anything on Monday as far as running around, because I’m still recovering (ha!) from the long trip, but I ended up getting my errands done for the week. Whoo hooo!
How about you?

June 15th, 2009 — Arbonne, Aromaleigh, Beauté, Brows, Chanel, Concealer, Creating a new lippie, Dior, Eye Shadow, FOTD, Foundation, La Prairie, Lip Balm, Lip Gloss, Lipstick, MAC, Mascara, Meow, Mineral, Pencils, Primer, Rouge or blush, Techniques
This is the last of my Dior quints. Dior makes wonderful quints. The colors are high fashion and compare to Chanel. Lately I’ve preferred the look of Dior shadows to Chanel’s because Dior’s tend to be brighter. We don’t have a local Dior counter or I’d likely have more Dior because the colors are so exceptional. But I’ve found that I’ve not been using my Dior very much since I started wearing minerals, because the mineral colors are more more which I really like.
This quint has medium-deep peach and copper at the top; gray and green at the bottom; medium peach in the center. This peach is deeper and less pink than the color that was peach from Saturday. You could easily mix between the sets getting even more looks.
You can pretty much tell where I laid the color. Peach on my lids. Copper and peach and gray in the crease. Green in outer corner and drylined lower. Gray/copper/some green to dryline top. Concealer: Dior skinflash. Mascara: Arbonne 2 step. Brows: La Prairie pencil.

Foundation: back to Chanel, because the Lancome mineral foundation look was uneven in the sun. I kept having to wipe it down to get it so it didn’t lay in any pores, etc. I don’t have the technique down for minerals, that’s for sure, because I applied it with a very light hand, at least I thought I had.
Primer: Arbonne
Bronzer: Meow Intense Medium (has some pink in it)
Highlight: AL Plum Blossom up the middle and highlighting top of cheeks
Blush: AL Dolly gothic lolita rouge

Lips: Arbonne Tickled on one lip; MAC Popster conditioner on the other; smooshed. Rimmed and up the center with Beauté Allure. I thought this color was very pretty and it felt wonderful!

I matched my shirt. I liked the way I looked. I was happy with the way it turned out. What do you think?

June 3rd, 2009 — Arbonne, Aromaleigh, Eye Shadow, Eye liner, FOTD, Foundation, Guerlain, La Prairie, Lipstick, MAC, Mascara, Meow, Primer, Review, Signature Club A
Sherri stopped over this morning and she had more Arbonne colors, so I tried some of the colors she brought.
What I like about the shadows
They are easy to apply, go on smoothly, need very little blending. The colors are a very good mix across cools, neutrals, and warms. Today I used two cools and one warm. They stay on well. I give them a 4.5. I reserve 5 for Aromaleigh and Meow, both niche minerals.
Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost
Crease: Arbonne Charade (cool brown)
Inner lids: Arbonne Petal (soft pink)
Outer lids: Arbonne Prosper (bright lime)(the warm color)
You can see the Prosper here:

Tightlined top: MAC Smolder
Tightlined lower: MAC earthline
Mascara: Arbonne 2 step — I’m still not convinced about the main brush here.

Primer: Guerlain Meteorites
Foundation: Chanel, discontinued — still going strong!
Rouge under powder: Lancome stick
Powder: my sparkly mix, topped with SCA hyaluronic
Blush over powder: Arbonne Promise (very light pink)
Lips: Whatever I had on this morning, then
Topped with Arbonne Razzberry — this is a very pretty color, and one I will be buying.

My skin
I like the way my skin is looking. I’m taking advantage of all the extra products in the travel kit before buying full size: the enzmye and the scrub. I like them both. The scrub is good on your hands too. Don’t forget your hands!

May 21st, 2009 — Arbonne, Aromaleigh, Eye Shadow, Eye liner, FOTD, MAC, Meow, Primer, Revlon, Urban Decay
I thought I’d use the Clarins set again, this time using the copper color on my lids. It was yucko. Seriously. I debated about taking it off and starting again, but thought it would be OK by the time I finished. I can easily wear Aromaleigh’s colors and Meow’s, but there is something about the odd red in this Clarins that wasn’t me. I bet it would look great on Natasha. I knew I was going to pop it with a bright liner — that worked!

Crease: mixture of the black and brown
Outer corners: Lots of brown over the copper
Fade out the top: with some of the Peachy tone
Dry Lined top and lower: AL Isadora — love this color
Pencil lined: Styli Style Sky
Pencil lined, more, brighter: Urban Decay Electric

All other colors and products the same as yesterday, except I used Revlon Vital Radiance Primer in cool (discontinued, but I love it.)

I thought I would go for very simple because it is Sunday. You can see how good my skin looks in one day with Arbonne. I’m not sure I look this pale in RL, compared to my pictures today, but you can see how white around my face reflects up making me paler. I do love this shirt, however. It is bright white. I generally never wear white around my face. But then most whites have a bit of color in them.
Eyes:
This is as near to a perfect neutral look as I could ever get. I need a pop of color. I could envision wearing this on a trip for two weeks, though I know me well enough to know I’d wish I had something else along too!
Crease: AL Burnt Roses — love this color
Lids and dry lined lower: AL Ocean Rain
Tight lined top and wet lined lower: MAC graphblack, also earthline under on lower eye
Mascara: top, Guerlain; lower, Guerlain Le2
Brows: La Prairie pencil
Concealer: Dior skinflash

Primer: Sheer Cover
Foundation: Lancome minerals + Lancome mineral powder + my sparkly mix
Blush: Meow Masterpiece Water Lilies, then Lancome Petticoat Pink as it wasn’t strong enough

Lips: BE Lip Guard, Bare Beach
Very pretty color, feels great on the lips, very moisturizing.

Here’s what my skin looked like on Friday: Big Difference!
