I wore these shadow colors yesterday, because I was wearing a wonderful lime green skirt with amethyst accents. I liked it so well, I wanted to wear the colors again, and since I didn’t take pictures yesterday, I thought I’d show you the idea today. It’s wonderful the number of looks and combinations you can get from several colors of shadows.
Eyes: Arbonne shadows
Base: Nude Frost
Lids: Lime in new shape
Inner corners: light pink (ballet)
Lined top and lower: Clarins Midnight Flash pencil
Drylined top and lower: Arbonne medium amethyst color
Mascara top: Arbonne, 2 in 1; Tarte lower
Brows: La Prairie pencil
Concealer: YSL eclat
Nose: MAC concealer

Primer: Guerlain meteorites
Foundation: Clinique Even Better in Fair — this is a tad dark on me, but when finished it looks fine — I like the formula a lot.
Rouge: Chanel stick under my sparkly mix powder
Blush over powder: Arbonne Promise
Highlight: Arbonne very light pink
Bronzer: Guerlain meteorites powder #3 (this is not a bronzer but it works as a bronzer on me)

Lips:
First, Fyrinnae Visual Kei alone, then this picture was taken after some of it was gone — over the top I put SCA Hyaluronic — it was pretty together!

What do you think?
Do you like to wear lime greens?
To buy Arbonne from Bookgirl, just ask.

May 7th, 2009 — Creating a new lippie, Fyrinnae, LOTD, Lip Lustre, Techniques
I changed the technique a bit here.
Lollipop-pop on both lips.
This color looks like a warm pink in the tube, but on, it is a blue pink which I usually love. However, my T is salmon colored today and so my lips needed to be more salmon.
Type A Applied over the top of both lips and blended well. I used the back end of a brush, not the applicator (I don’t want to mix colors on the applicators.) I also wanted to blend fast, but not have it in a lip brush.

Here it is full face, plus you can see how well it matched my T.

My take:
I thought the color was very pretty.
I like Fyrinnae’s colors. They are interesting and different.
Today both colors had little flecks of more solids. This is not to be unexpected. I just used the back end of a brush to blend them in well.
How about you?
Do you have any of their colors? What are your faves?

May 6th, 2009 — Aromaleigh, Brows, Brushes, Chanel, Concealer, Cosmetics, Dior, Eye Shadow, Eye liner, FOTD, Foundation, Fyrinnae, Lip Lustre, Mascara, Mineral, Primer, Revlon, Tarte
Change of pace today! Back to reds, but new ones I’ve never used before. We’ll see if I get any drift/slide today. Sometimes red bothers my lids, esp when it slides.

Sometimes I wonder whether it would be easier to have no choices. It takes me longer to think about what I’d like to do than actually doing it. But last night I thought: Gothic Lolita shadows! Fyrinnae lips! so that made it easier today.
Eyes: All AL, except where noted
Base: Nude Frost, no sparkly mix after
Crease: Strawberry Despair, GL — wow! this is really pretty — I think I originally bought it because it looked so great on Tanya in a theme week at AL, but I’m not sure I ever wore it before — AL describes it
Strawberry Despair: Muted strawberry red pearl with copper sparks. Despair was never so yummy!
Outer Corners and lower drylined: Burnt Roses , GL — one of my all time fave colors, just a super color
Burnt Roses : Rich chocolatey cherry frost with tiny deep green sparks. Just plain luscious.
Inner Corners:Persephone, Luster — first time I wore this too, very gorgeous color!
Persephone: Lush bordeaux with a cocoa lowlight and rose highlight.
Brows: Chanel pencil
Mascara: Guerlain, top; Tarte, lower
Concealer: Dior skinflash and around inner corners of eyes
I couldn’t figure out what to use for liner or if I should stop where I was, then I remembered I had Black Cherry gel liner. It helps to have the right brush. Since I tried it last, I bought a small slanted eyeliner brush at Ulta. There’s no identifier on it to tell you which one. I intentionally tried to smudge it out the way a pencil looks vs. having a hard edged line. Smudging just looks better on me at this stage of life. Anyway, it was perfect, and I loved it, and I might try to use my gel liners more now that I actually like the look of one of them. I did it very lightly along the waterline and tight lined both the top and lower, smudging it.

Sunscreen: Neutragena, not the La Prairie to see if my makeup is less sheer
Primer: Revlon Vital Radiance, cool, discontinued
Foundation: Chanel, discontinued, trying to use this one up
Rouge: Chanel, stick, discontinued
Powder, my sparkly mix, then Signature Club A Hyaluronic
Blush: Lancome Petticoat Pink, along my cheekbones
Lips: Fyrinnae Visual Kei Lip Luster — my labels are getting all funky — are your? — such a pretty color!
Isn’t this pretty!

What do you think?

April 15th, 2009 — Avon, Brushes, Creating a new lippie, FOTD, Foundation, Fyrinnae, Lancome, Lip Lustre, Lipstick, Mineral, Techniques, Too Faced
I said yesterday that I wanted to go to the Lancome counter and see if I could apply the mineral foundation and have it turn out well. I didn’t want to go sans all makeup, so I did my eyes with some of the new colors in my Fyrinnae haul.
Don’t laugh! I look like death warmed over. I hoped that the final product would be balanced. You’ve seen me now with practically no eye makeup (the Beauté post) and now with no foundation. Trust me, you likely will not see me minus both!
I’m still playing with the Fyrinnae eye colors to get the technique down pat (pun intended — you pat these, not swipe them) — and if you can’t have fun with makeup, why bother! I have a place on my eyes that always needs a touch more color. When I did it today, tapping in the brush, unknown to me, what was left on the brush was basically black, not the blue or green — yikes! I won’t make that mistake again. Before I did that and after, I used a damp brush to soften the top edges.
Fyrinnae Created Lippie: Ryunome + Visual Kei, lightly

Eyes, all Fyrinnae, unless noted
Base: Too Faced
Lid, lightly: Nijiro, light beige
Outer corners: Fujiro, bright blue, applying it lightly, it looks semi-matte, not bright and glistening, as I expected — but looking at these pictures, the color no longer looks matte at all
Inner corners: Dark Fantasy, deep green — free sample with order — this shows up well in a picture toward the bottom
Dry lined lower: Javan Rhino, bright light turquoise
Tightlined upper: Avon cosmic brown pencil
Mascara: Too Faced bright blue, first time I used it, the brush felt awkward

Then I went to the Lancome counter and applied the mineral foundation myself, with a little coaching. The technique is the same as for BE. The SA told me that you can use any translucent powder, but we used the mineral as she did yesterday.
I didn’t do anything else, except apply Groupie lighter than she did yesterday. We used the same blush, which has a touch of apricot in it. I forgot the color again, but I know where it is in the tester unit. [Update: Sheer Amarose]I didn’t touch my eyes again. Amazing how it all goes together, once it’s finished! I can’t remember a time when I did my complete eyes first — it’s really strange looking at it that way instead of knowing how it will complete the rest of the face.

I think Nude Frost offers a better base. You can see it has drifted a bit. OTOH, I applied eye cream over the Too Faced base, then more base, as I wanted to use the cream on my upper lids too.

My take:
I think the foundation is terrific! It was easy to apply. In the future, I need more on my outer face. The SA told me to apply from the outer lower face into the middle so there would be less foundation in the middle. I wanted a sheer look, but with coverage.
The brush is a dream.
What do you think?

April 15th, 2009 — Fyrinnae, Lip Lustre, Swatch, Techniques
I got my Fyrinnae haul yesterday and I wanted to try out Ryunome, a bright blue, which I bought to blue down other colors.
Using my usual technique of one color on one lip and one on the other and smooshing them together:
Ryunome + Visual Kei (this was the brightest ‘orange’ I had)

I was afraid to do it too strongly until I figured if it would work. Next time, I’ll really do it strong, and I’ll add a second picture.
I think it turned out really well, soft and pretty.
Here’s Visual Kei alone, strongly:
It’s a teensy more apricot looking in RL than it shows up in the pictures.

Type A
I wanted to see what looks I could get out of Type A.
This photo shows it applied moderately. When applied heavily, it is very vibrant and shimmery.

Au contraire, to make the lippie I applied it heavily to my lower lip.
Lollipop-pop
Applied this to my top lip.

This is what it became after smooshing my lips together:
In RL, it looks like a vibrant, magenta orchid. The orchid has concentrated on the upper middle of my lower lip. Very pretty!

~~~~~~~
Type A with Shibuya
Step 1: See how striking Type A is when applied heavily!
Final look:
Softens Shibuya to be rich wine on me, better for my coloring, and takes it out of the Goth.
My take
The sky’s the limit as far as colors possible with various combinations!
What do you think?
Have you tried combining Fyrinnae Lip Lustres together?
April 4th, 2009 — Aromaleigh, Bare Escentuals, Cosmetics, Eye Shadow, Eye liner, FOTD, Foundation, Fyrinnae, Lip Lustre, MAC, NYX, Primer, Shiseido
I knew I would like this color combination better. It’s a bit lighter and brighter than yesterday and a shimmery teal. Not quite so shocking.
My 13 yo spontaneously said, “Oh I like your makeup.” I was outside in the sunshine. I asked her which part, and she mentioned the shadow looked as if it had gold in it. I will take any compliment from my kids and their friends, they are the best kind! The shimmer to me is more teal or silver.
Again, it went on really easy. I wanted to try to apply it a little more softly, which it is, but I went beyond sheer so I had to follow that lead.
Eyes: (all dry, applied with AL FO brush)
Base: Nude frost
Lids: F. Embrace, softened out at the edges
Lined lower: F Dragon Magic Arcane Magic, smudged so it is soft, not sharp
Lined upper: NYX Extreme Black pen (not dry)
Primer: Shiseido
Foundation: Maybelline Matte Mousse
Color under powder: Maybelline Mousse 25
Powder: my sparkly mix, with a tad of BE mineral veil on my nose
Blush: MAC Dollymix
Lips: Fyrinnae Type A
Have a wonderful day~!
This settles the question forever about mixing Fyrinnae lippies. I figured they would blend easily. After all, they are the same formula.
First
Lollipop-pop on both lips.
Then
Shibuya
I used a lip brush, wondering how easily it would mix, using just a tad until I got the shade I wanted.
This isn’t near as dark as it really looked on me the day I swatched it. It was almost black.
Here’s the new shade I came up with:
I was afraid to use my usual technique of one lip one color; the other lip the other color and smooshing my lips together. I thought Shibuya would take over.
But tomorrow I will get brave and do 1/2 and 1/2. Pictures to follow.
Not quite half and half:
Lollipop-pop on lower lip; Shibuya on outer edges of upper lip; smooshed and blended with lip brush.
What do you think?
I like it! I’m going to get the blue Fyrinnae lippie Ryunome to use with any lippies I want to blue-up/cool down.
Have you tried?
Have you tried Fyrinnae with other brands of lippies to see if they mix well? I could foresee the blue as being a real staple. For those of you who like warm colors, do the same with a warm Fyrinnae.
Alright, admit it. Doesn’t the name Dragon Magic just seem, well, magical! I would have had to buy this, even if I didn’t like the color, which I do.
Wow! green!!
In RL unlike this photo, the green is an exact hue to my shirt, only deeper.
Here’s what Fyrinnae says. Be sure to follow the link to see swatches of how differently Dragon Magic looks in various lights, wet and dry.
Deep charcoal with a shimmer that changes from a violety ice blue to pale green to almost gold, depending on the light.
I will definitely have to foil it later. Ha! this is later — and it is still going strong, no drifting. I took these pictures about 7 hours ago, and if my eyes look any different, it’s not by much.
Eyes
Base: Nude Frost the color adheres better with this
Lids: F. Dragon Magic
Lined Lower: F. Embrace this is a beautiful teal
Lined upper: NYX Extreme Black pen — this is as close to the Mary Kay pen that I loved as I think I will ever come. I like it a lot. Very easy to apply, just wet enough.
Brows: Merle Norman duo powder
Mascara: Guerlain Maxi-lash on top, the little mini from Le2 on the lower lashes
Now, seriously — seriously! — do you see any reason why I would ever have to use a carbon color for the base to deepen a color?? I am so pale that colors look dark enough on me as it is. More than dark enough.
My take: I am going to reverse the colors the next time. I think Embrace would be gorgeous and dark enough on my lids; then use Dragon Magic for lining. I asked Book Girl if I should take it off and do just that, and she said no, it was a perfect match to my shirt.
I really did fade it out, though it is hard to see here. Once it looked like nothing was left on the brush (I used Aromaleigh’s FO again), there was still product on the brush. I just tapped it around to fade it up and out.
This is a very dramatic, almost shocking, look for me for day. I would reserve it for evening. I don’t know how it works to apply Fyrinnae’s shadows on top of each other, to vamp up for evening. Will have to try that with a lighter color.
Again, I am extremely surprised how easy these are to apply. They pat on evenly. There is no blotching. They feel soothing and calming to me on my lids.
In order of application:
Primer: Smashbox, the apricot one (not color correcting)
Foundation: Revlon Vital Radiance
Cheeks, under powder: Nars stick
Powder: my sparkly mix
Lips: Fyrinnae Lollipop-pop Lip Lustre — beautiful orchid color, smashing! See more colors here.
Over powder, up center of face: Smashbox duo primer, using only the shimmery
Blush: MAC Dollymix
Wow Green!! but still fun!
April 2nd, 2009 — Eye Shadow, Fyrinnae, Lip Lustre, Sharing
I’ve wanted to try Fyrinnae for a while now. I’ve liked the looks on others and was pretty sure they would look good on me if they would apply nicely (as they did.)
For $26 I received all of this (in the two photos below):
Lip Lustres: (L to R) Lollipop-pop, Shibuya, Glitter Kittiez, Type A
You can see my review here and the colors as I wear them.
Shadows: (L to R)
I will be reviewing these as I wear them.
Top: Daijodan, Arcane Magic Dragon Mix
Lower: Arcane Magic Archmage, Professional Colors Embrace
Right side alone: Immortality (free sample with order)
What I wore today:
Lips: Visual Kei Lip Lustre
Lids: Digital Faerie (pictured left below)
Lower and lined above: Biker Chic (pictured right below)
Fyrinnae is clear on their home page the time frame for receipt of their products. Mine came in good order, in less time than I expected.
Do you wear Fyrinnae? What colors have you tried? Do you love it?
So far, after one day’s application, I can say I do love it! If you haven’t tried anything of theirs yet, give them a try. Let me know what colors you tried and how you like them.
April 2nd, 2009 — Fyrinnae, Lip Lustre, Review
I didn’t know what to expect with these lip lustres. I had first heard about them at other blogs.
They sounded just different and interesting enough from other lippies that I have that I wanted to give them a try.
Here’s how Fyrinnae describes them:
…these are NOT intended to be like lipgloss. This product is a non-sticky lipcolour “stain”, leaving moisturizing colour on your lips but no goopy tackiness. These are made to be opaque, as in not transparent, though the semi-sheer shades, usually the very pale ones, are noted in the shade description. They are a relatively dry product because we pack as much colour into them as possible, but the ingredients are not drying. No silicones, no beeswax, no dyes, no clay, no “absorbants”. This means, due to the high concentration of natural butters, they are thinner in a warm environment, thicker when it’s cool.
I expected them to be more of a stain, color but no texture, but they feel like a cross between lipstick and lipgloss on the lips. They go on silky, feel moisturizing, and the color is lush. As I wear it, it feels drier, but still moist. I doubt it will migrate.
Lip Lustres: (L to R) Lollipop-pop, Shibuya, Glitter Kittiez, Type A
Lollipop-pop
This is a gorgeous color. In the tube, it looks like a pink apricot, the kind of color I wouldn’t reach for, but on the lip it is shot with the most gorgeous orchid. Fyrinnae calls is a fun vibrant light pink with a blue highlight with a Lychee scent. The first lychees I ever had were in China. They are so delicious! Then I saw that one summer, and maybe every summer, our local fruit and veggie market offers some from a local woman who has a tree. Yum yum!!
Again, to me, I don’t notice a taste or scent. If it is there, it is very slight.
This is the one that I will try 2:1 with Shibuya. Maybe even today! Picture to follow.
This is out of focus, but shows the orchid:
Visual Kei Described as bright pink.
I don’t notice a taste or scent, though Fyrinnae says Strawberry Cotton Candy.
Shibuya
On me: very deep, almost Goth plum. Described as dark, plum wine. I don’t notice a taste or scent, though Fyrinnae says coconut.
I expected it would be a bit brighter, but I had planned to create a shade with a lighter shade. Picture of combined shade to follow later.
In the container, it looks like there are tiny red sparklies. But on the lips, it is melded into the shade.
Glitter Kittiez
This is a very wearable, medium pink. It is actually a tad darker than it photographed and is shot through with some orchid. Fyrinnae called it a deep, sparkly magenta pink with a Virgin Mojito scent. As with the others, I don’t taste or smell anything.
Type A
This is a pretty leans-to-warm red. I applied it softly. Fyrinnae describes the color as a shimmery, rich garnet red with a Lychee scent. I don’t taste or smell anything.
My Take
Their sampling program is very generous, so it is easy to try several colors reasonably. I love that for the price of one lippie in a store, I can sample several colors.
If you haven’t tried them, you should! Let me know if you do.
What do you think?
If you have tried them, what are your favorite colors? How do you feel about them?
Karin
5 the price is reasonable $2.50 each for 3.5 ml; or $4.50 each for 5.8 ml
5 for color
5 for feel and how it lasts
3 it is not as moist as lipstick or lip gloss; you will have to determine if you can wear this everyday all the time or will need to alternate with more familiar forms
