FOTD Aromaleigh + Crystal eyelashes + Too Faced and MAC lips

Well, after yesterday’s horrible lashes, these are real beauties! I didn’t trim these at all, but I think I could take some off the width.

I do not know why they stick so ridiculously to the packaging — I actually ripped a 6/16 section out of the center of one of the lashes getting it off the packaging. I attached the lashes as usual, including the bare strip, then glued in the section I ripped out. It could be that it was because they had sat in the packaging so long. Cripe!

Pictures were taken 6-7 hours after initial makeup.

Inner lid: AL Unicorn l’orchidee
Outer lids: AL Tangle root l’orchidee
Lashes: Ardel Romantic — have double staggered layer of crystals
Lined lower: Moss (green) Arbonne pencil

Tangleroot: Earthy lush green with cool dimensional shimmer sparkles.
Unicorn: Palest yellow luster that phases to a cool blue highlight.

I wanted to choose colors I might not usually wear (the yellow). I can wear greens like this, but I expected it to be more flat avocado (and therefore less wearable for me.) Together these are quite lush. Unicorn looks like a soft orchid on, and not yellow at all. And the green is almost, not quite a cool green, not a yellow green. Don’t be fooled by the color in the ziplock!

Upper lip pencil: MAC Magenta

My Review:
I rate both this quad and the mascara as 5 star. If you can wear greens and if these greens look like ones you can wear, then pick this up at your earliest convenience. Even though Target is less expensive, I could only find the quad at Walgreen’s. I didn’t check Walmart.

What do you think?
As much as I liked the Meow colors, these are perfect, a bit more colorful, and could easily be colors I could use with nearly everything.

If you have no consultant and you’d like BookGirl to order Arbonne for you, just ask.

LOTD Weds Balm + MAC pencil

How did I come up with this?
I had balm on my lips which I refreshed. I really liked the look of the MAC pencil so thought I’d start there. I liked it so well, I was finished.

How quick was this?
Very simple and fast technique

Possibilities?
Endless, depending on the pencils you have on hand.

What I could have done
I could have used a dab of gloss to give it some sheen and some moisture, but it didn’t feel dry. I liked it, so I was good to go.

Colors
AL balm, clear
MAC Magenta pencil

LOTD Avon + Clinique, lined with MAC

I have way too many lipsticks and lipstick samples to ever use them up in a lifetime, even though I have three daughters and others with whom I share lipsticks. Why! I try as much as possible to buy department store products always with a gwp, and generally that includes a lippie or two, and often I’d buy a lippie as part of my qualifying purchase. So given a number of lipsticks and a number of pencils, it is possible to come up with almost an unlimited number of colors.

Photobucket

How or why did I come up with this one?
Applied in this order
I wanted to try or re-try the Avon sample I had. It is a fuchsia, but when I started to apply it, I could tell it wasn’t vibrant enough. It is more of a spring color than a winter.

Then, my new gwp Clinique lippie, more of a plummed brown pink, was next to it on the counter. I looked at it and thought, this might work.

I didn’t feel like the edges were strong enough, so I did the edges with the MAC pencil. I too almost prefer to do my pencils this way as I have some control over how much pencil shows or shows through vs. doing the pencil first. Plus I can get the edge sharper without looking made up. See my earlier post on Andrea Claire.

How long does it take?
It’s a really fast technique. The longest time is just to determine the colors.

Colors
Balm: AL
– this was left from earlier today, but I like the balm as a base
Lipstick
Top: Avon Royal Fuchsia
Lower: Clinique Rose Aglow
smooshed
Lined edges: MAC Soar pencil

FOTD: NYX eyes +

One thing you can say about me, among many others, is that I’m an equal opportunity buyer. When it comes to cosmetics, it doesn’t have to be the most expensive for it to be the right color. I first look for color, then I look for the finish it gives. Or, I look first for the finish, then to see if there is a color that is right for me.

Don’t get me wrong, I have plenty of expensive lines’ colors, but that is not all I have. I never throw anything away because it is extremely rare for anything to get old. I pass it on or continue to use it.

One place I don’t hedge is skin care, but even there the most expensive is not necessarily the one that works the best. If it works, I have likely tried it or am still using it. But realistically, there are so many skin care items and so little time. Laughing here. And I’d venture to say that if I lived elsewhere there’d be a whole realm of other products available to me that are not available in the US. So we do the best we can.

NYX, Aromaleigh, Meow are all lines that are reasonably priced, especially if you start with samples, as you can with the latter two. In the meantime, I bought a couple of NYX things that I’ve never used yet, and I wanted to give them a go.

The NYX colors I used today are individual square shadows with a clear lid.

Eyes:
Base: Nude frost on lids, not under brows, then BE Queen Phyllis
Lids: NYX October Sky
(pale blue, almost matte)
Drylined top and bottom: Ocean (blue-green, more green) then over the whole lid a bit
Mascara: Guerlain Le2
Brows: La Prairie
pencil
Inner corners: MAC Fascinating pencil (white)
Concealer: the one in the Revlon foundation palette

Photobucket

Primer: Smashbox
Foundation: Revlon age defying cream
Rouge under my sparkly mix powder: Revlon
Blush over: Maybelline Dream Mousse 25
Lips: Avon, MAC and Clinique, see LOTD for details

Photobucket

What do you think?
Isn’t this is pretty color combination! I love it. As you can see, I used a variety of brands and many, but not all, are inexpensive.

How about you?
Do you lean to cosmetics across the board or do you use all price ranges?

My fragrance:
Guerlain Boisé Torrid on my wrists, then later Narciso Rodriquez Women on one arm to compare it; last on the other arm Andy Tauer Reverie au Jardin — I really smell good. I do. I got a compliment: I smell your perfume, you smell good. What are you wearing?

Beautiful moments in time

I always like a good beauty quote, and Andrea Claire had a few good ones in her interview with Makeup Junkie. You can read the full interview and learn more about Claire’s makeup, hair and style career here at MJ’s blog. You can also see some of Claire’s print work. I’m glad MJ is back online posting again.

Here are some highlights:

Fall 2009 Beauty Trends
Claire feels smokey eyes, matte red lips, and 80s revival will be the top trends this fall. This was confirmed in the MAC videos I posted earlier.

Advice to women of a certain age
Avoid trends such as 80s revival, if you already lived it once. Makes sense to me.

…if you had been there done that and bought the lime green shadow you cannot do that again! Besides, it is very much a ‘must have young skin’ to pull it off. Bold colour blocking with eye shadows can age you and have you looking like you are stuck in a time warp. This look is only carried off if you are an adolescent so if you are 21 and under I say rock it, over 21 opt for another trend of the season.

Claire gives the following makeup tricks:
Smokey Eyes

*layer carbon/charcoal shadows with metallic colour. [You notice that I have done this, as it works better for my eyes.]
*If you find shadows are difficult to blend with your dark base then layer MAC’s Smolder pencil with a Lise Watier’s Metallic Eye shine pencil, smudge together with a Q-Tip. [Or use the MAC smudger brush as I have done. And use a lighter base. MAC's Smolder moved on me and made a mess. Blackgraph stays put. They are two different formulas. Smolder would likely smudge better.]

Matte Red lips

*apply the lip liner after the lipstick so it doesn’t appear to[o] geometric.
*dot a smidge of vitamin e on top – not to add gloss but just a little moisture — if matte is too drying for you.

What I really loved is her beauty mantra:

Be realistic. Be real… Beauty is not serious – beauty is a moment in your day that can convey confidence, flirtiness, calm. What I mean is, all women ‘take 5′ in their day by touching up here and there … Beauty is a moment in time that is forever changing. Embrace those little moments but don’t be those moments just live in them…. HA! Life is short – enjoy it – have fun with it. That’s what beauty and fashion is all about; … A form of expression that can change day to day, season to season – enjoy the trends but remember to enjoy life too. Andrea Claire at Makeup Junkie

Be sure to look at Makeup Junkie’s blog.

Karin –I do wear the lime shadow, just judiciously.

LOTD Review: Maybelline Colorsensational

Colorsensational is Maybelline’s newest formula in lipstick with a wide array of colors. I think it has a lovely feel on the lips. I had a hard time choosing which color(s) to buy.

Crushed Coral
I wanted to try one of these new colors, and I adored this on someone else. Often she and I can wear the same colors, especially in shadows, but it’s not quite deep enough for me when used alone. I used the lipstick with the same gloss as she does, but it’s still too much bright warm pink/apricot. Maybe it would be perfect for you!

Here’s where I began:

This looks more plum in some lights and more autumn toned in others. It changed the depth and tone to a color that works with my coloring.

Lips Maybelline Madison Mauve 465
This is the second color that I bought, and I am really happy with it. My 12 yo daughter’s first words to me were, “Oh, I like that lipstick!” It has a very pretty glow. It’s not frosted, but it has some shimmer (not glitter.) I seriously wanted to wear it again for today’s fotd photo, but I resisted. I’ll put it on later.

Have you tried these lipsticks yet?
Do you have a favorite color?

I give it a 3, but if Crushed Coral had worked on me, I’d have given them a 4. Silly, yes?

FOTD Arbonne smoky eye look + lips

Eye colors are the same Arbonne smoky eye set as yesterday, but this time I began with a 2nd base layer of BE Queen Phyllis — I know this works better for me than without using it. It softens the dark colors a bit, but I bet it looks as dark comparatively on me as the set looks on someone else with darker skin who uses the set alone.
Photobucket

Today I used Lancome foundation. All the rest the same, except I layered Arbonne Promise (light pink) over Arbonne Savvy (apricot) for blush.
Highlighted up the center with Arbonne lightest blush.

I forgot to go over it all with my sparkly powder mix, and I feel the Guerlain meteorites alone is too matte.

Lips:
Lined: Arbonne Nice
pencil
Next: Arbonne Illusion + Gleam gloss + Stila sparkle combination gloss
I used a lip pencil then put the tiny bit left on the brush on my cheeks, using my fingers.

And here’s yesterday’s for comparison.

LOTD Arbonne Illusion in combos

Here was my first lip today:

Arbonne Illusion + Legend
1/2 and 1/2, 1 on each lip, smooshed; then blended well with a lip brush, because it looked like light lipstick with dark liner.

Photobucket

Here is my second lip today:
I loved the look on the model, so I wanted to try that too.
Lips lined and filled in with Nice
I think this is very pretty alone, and would be nice with just a shimmery gloss over the top to give it some moisture, though it does not feel dry.

Photobucket

Lined and filled in: Nice
Then on both lips: Illusion

Photobucket

On the model, they also contour the lips with a second liner and a second lip color, plus add gloss. I’ll add a gloss later. This is definitely a good color to have in my repetoire.

Here’s my Take2
In RL this lippie is a lovely nude shade with just a hint of color.
Photobucket

And here it is with the other color lippie: (Illusion and Legend)
You can see how well the colors hold up, because it has been at least 5 hours since the first picture, and the only change is the lip, as you can see. No smudging or drifting of shadows or liner. Still perfect.
Photobucket

Which do you prefer?

FOTD Catching up

What with school starting next week and two registrations this week plus reading the new Jim Butcher book, I’m behind in posting, so I figured I’d better catch up! If I get too far behind, I can’t remember what I did. What’s fun about doing two days is that it is easy to compare colors.

Tuesday
Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost, then BE Queen Phyllis
Lids: Milani 06 Royalty
This is a gorgeous color, with sort of a turquoise micro glitter on top of it — the bad thing is that the glitter is only on top, so once you get past the top, it is gone. I work from only one area so I can see what the glitter looked like. This really does seem like bait and switch.
Lids: topped with AL Bluespark Rocks, a nearly identical micro glitter color, whoo hooo!
Lined: Mary Kay Bahama Blue pencil
Brows: La Prairie pencil
Mascara: Guerlain, not Le2
Photobucket

Primer: Revlon
Foundation: Chanel
Blush: Arbonne Promise
, after Chanel stick rouge under Guerlain meteorites powder

Photobucket

Lips
Mary Kay Pink Shimmer + gloss

Wednesday
Eyes:
NYX trio #3
pink, white, baby blue — really gorgeous colors and I’ve wanted to get back to them.
Lined: Chanel Noctournes, Mercury and Sapphire double ended pencil, sadly discontinued
Brows: La Prairie pencil
Mascara: Arbonne, double ended
Photobucket

Primer: Guerlain meteorites
Foundation: Chanel
Blush: Arbonne Promise
, after Chanel stick rouge under Guerlain meteorites powder

Photobucket

Lips:
Too Faced Caspian pencil topped with Mermaid
gloss — I chose Mermaid because it is the browner of the glosses in the 4 that came out at the same time.

That gives you a two day round up!

What have you been wearing?

To buy Arbonne from Bookgirl, just ask.
