FOTD Thursday Chanel eyes +

Chanel Les Quatre eye shadow Sublimes: Marine, Beige Rose, Granite, Clear Blue
I rarely use this set, but I should use it more often. I originally bought it because I didn’t have anything in this color family. All my blues were more of a normal blue.

This set leans toward teal. If you make an X, the upper right and lower left are both light shades, though I’ve never worn them alone, say, for day. Thinking about it, I wonder why, and want to do it sometime soon.

The opposite line, are two darks, very dark and extremely dark. One looks black-blue; the other looks black-black-blue. They would be very dramatic if used for evening — or even to achieve a goth look.

You can see where I laid the lines. I used the lighter of the two dark blues to dryline the bottom. The darkest to dryline the top.

Arbonne mascara, 2 step. La Prairie brow pencil. Dior skinflash concealer with a touch of Arbonne in the outer corners.

Chanel foundation; my sparkly powder mix, followed by BE mineral veil sort of like a bronzer.

Photobucket

Highlight: Benefit Georgia
Blush: YSL # 19, also used as a bronzer

Photobucket

Lips: NYX Aphrodite + rimmed with Beauté Paramour (and a touch in the center.)

What do you think?

Making a new lippie out of 2 or more + more

I want to know what happens to lost posts in the scheme of things. I wrote this up recently and it is now in Internet Never Neverland. Here’s hoping this one is as good, if not better.

….

I bet you thought I’d tell you how to smoosh two colors together in a little pot and use a lip brush. Well, you could do that, for sure, and it would work, if you came up with a combo you really liked, but this is easier and gives you a lot more color options.

….

If I am going to combine colors, I generally start with one color on my top lip and one color on my bottom lip. Sometimes the sum of two lipsticks is better than its parts, at least for a particular day.

Here’s what I did yesterday to show you:

Top Lip:
AL Gothic Lolita Wallflower This is a gorgeous color on its own, but not one I would have chosen. It is truly a perfect blend of pink and peach. And I can wear it well. I’m getting a full lippie. Kristin always includes samples with every order, and this color was one of my free samples. It is a perfect mix of peach and pink.

I chose it for this tutorial because you can see how you can add more cool tones to it.

Bottom Lip
NYX Purple Rain lip gloss
As you can see, this is quite purple.

Photobucket

Then I smoosh my lips together until the colors are blended. You can see how each color softens the other. I have also changed the consistency of the lippies: the gloss is more lipsticky, and the lipstick is more glossy. The color now is more plummy.

Photobucket

What I like about this is that both lipsticks stay fresh and clean. If I want to use them alone or in combination with other colors, I can. And I know I’m starting out with a particular color, not one that has layers of other colors over or in it.

This same technique works when using sample ziplocks. I am careful not to mix colors within the bags. I often use a little pointed plastic wand to grab some color and smooth it over my lips. It transfers almost completely off the wand, unlike a lipstick brush that you might have to wipe off.

Here are some other quick ways to use this technique:
Balancing your lips
This same technique can be used if you are trying to balance your lips. Put the lighter color on the smaller lip. Smoosh carefully and that lip will still be a tad lighter. Whatever is lighter comes forward and looks brighter or larger.

Highlighting the center
Apply the light color fully to one lip and the center of the other lip. Put the second color on the outsides of the second lip. Smoosh, and your center is highlighted.

You can do this more strongly by lining your lips and filling in or going over the outside edges. You can do this with a navy eye pencil, believe it or not, just be careful to blend well and choose a navy that is the right shade for your skin and lip tone. I use a medium navy; dark navy is a little difficult to blend. (I did not use it in this picture.)

Creating a black lippie

Wow! this was fun! Thanks to Elena for giving me the idea yesterday.

Do you want a little drama and edge in your life?
Try a little black lippie, especially since they are moving out of Goth and into mainstream, albeit high fashion.
Yves St. Laurent has a black gloss.
Chanel has black lippies in different color hues, not like their famous Vamp lippie, a burgundy-black. These would be black-whatever-color-tone-you-pick of the three.
NYX has a black gloss.
Fyrinnae has Monochrome, a matte black lip lustre.

Is it still Goth, if mainstream isn’t far behind?

Could I make my own? Yes!
I figured I could come up with my own, yes!

I also wanted to try it with one of Aromaleigh’s wonderful black shadows. But there was no time. Maybe tomorrow.

Step 1:
Base: Avon Beyond Color Lip Plumping Conditioner

This would allow the pencil to go on without pulling. And also, hopefully, not stain my lips.
Choosing a black eye pencil.
I used Revlon Wet Dry Blackest Black
I wondered about my really black Shiseido and my not-quite-as-black Shiseido, but for this, I chose Revlon.

What a gorgeous shimmery black! But I didn’t have my eyes on yet, and it was morning, and I knew I wanted to tame it down.

For real drama
This would be a beautiful shade colored on both lips, with a touch of gloss up the center.

The bottom lippie is Milani Lip Mixer Gloss 704. I wanted to bring it into a burgundy look. Next time I might try lipstick instead of gloss.

Photobucket

My youngest 2 girls were looking at me wondering what the heck!

Step 2:
Smoosh the lips together.

It was really quite black, and the pencil shimmered through it.

My girls thought it was way too dark for me. But I wasn’t finished with the rest of my makeup. If you could see the full shots here, you would certainly agree with them. But I’m not sharing them!

Photobucket

Step 3: Add gloss up the middle of the lip to highlight
Lancome Starlight White with silver glitter
Milani Glitzy Glow Girl to pink it up some

Photobucket

Finished FOTD I’ll post more FOTD shortly.
Looking good.

FOTD AL eyes + MAC& lips + glitter lashes

This was my idea from yesterday, to do orange and red. As I went along, I preferred orange and purple, but when I was finished, I was happy.

Photobucket

Eyes: after my usual base
Inner lids: AL spread your wings les papillons
Outer lids and drylined under eye: AL crimson mimicry les papillons
Up center of lid: AL unicorn (which pulls orchid) to mask the abruptness
Drylined: AL reverberation Rocks! glam glitter (turquoise)
Lined upper and lower: Black Cherry gel, smudging the look, rather than hard edged
Lashes: Witches charm lower lashes on upper (black with silver glitter tips) — these are not as long as the upper and a little less exotic. Very pretty for evening with the glitter.

FOTD AL + Tony&Tina gloss + Sorceress Lashes

I started out with the idea of wearing orange and purple shadows, then considering the shirt I’m wearing, I really wanted to do orange and red, so I compromised with red as the bottom liner. Maybe tomorrow I will do orange and red. It’s still the season for those colors on trees! Normally, in my wildest dreams, I wouldn’t have ever tried an orange on my eyes, but Aromaleigh colors are just fab, so I knew they would be spectacular, if I’d just get up the nerve. I figured I’d choose my lashes later. I’d pick the red tinsel ones, but one lash has mysteriously gone to sock heaven. Hopefully it will turn up!

Photobucket

Eyes, after my usual base
Inner Lids: AL spread your wings les papillons
Outer lids: AL ephemeral violet les papillons
Lower drylined: AL crimson mimicry les papillons

As predicted, this is very pretty:

Spread your Wings: The gentle earthy orange of the Monarch Butterfly, but rich with metallic splendor, vivid color and sparks of pure silver.

I’d worn both of these colors before and know I love them. Crimson is beautiful as a lower liner, and gives just the needed pizazz, but I don’t think you can see it very well in the pictures:

Ephemeral Violet:
A cool frosted metallic purple with strong finish and sparks of copper flash.
Crimson Mimicry: Rich frosted metallic smooth true red with sparks of coral, red and gold shining in the sunlight.

Lashes: Witches Charm Sorceress — these are the top lashes of the set and very spiky. They remind me of the crown on the statue of liberty! This is my first time wearing them, and I like them a lot. I wasn’t sure if they would look like I was missing some lashes, or if they would be too wild for everyday wearing.

There also are bottom lashes, which I might wear for top lashes. On one upper lash, there is some glue overspill from manufacturing. I didn’t try to remove it. Never had that happen before, so I will definitely check before I buy.

Photobucket

Lips: Tony&Tina Cosmic Deva (wine with wine and multi shimmers)(very smooth on) + WetnWild (deep red with bright red shimmers) (Halloween one year — this is gritty feeling on)

FOTD Aromaleigh + MAC lips + Glitter tipped lashes

These are pretty colors! I think if you look at all the pictures you can see how pretty the glitter is on the lashes.

Eyes
Over my usual base product:
Inner lids: AL glowing luna les papillons
Outer lids and dry lined lower: AL vigil of change les papillons

Glowing Luna: A pigmented warm green yellow… or yellowish warm green? You choose. Sparks of copper and pink add an ethereal dimension.
Vigil of Change: Intense deep cool purple with smokey metallic undertones and golden highlights with pink sparkles.

Review
Lined lower: 01 Milani crystal eye limited edition — this is sparkly with gold flecks on your lid without much color even if it looks as if there were, but on my lid without any other product the glitter felt scratchy — I like it better as liner, used more thickly so the color shows. The glitter in the package looks sparked with blue and green. I expected silver sparks from looking at it in the store. I’m not unhappy I bought it, but I think the ads are photoshopped to show more spark. I will use it for liner. I used it over the top of shadow yesterday (another way they recommend it) and it deepened the shadow a bit, but didn’t give much spark.

Edited: I returned the one I bought. It looked purple in the container but had basically no color, and while it says it is buildable, it would have to be too thick to show. Plus the glitter is sharp, at least on my eye. After it had been on a while I didn’t feel it, but at first I did. I much prefer the rocks! collection from Aromaleigh. The second time I used it to line with, the line was too thick.

Lashes: Top lashes from Witches Charm Enchantress set (black with silver glitter tips) — These are so pretty and elegant! This is the first time I’ve worn them. The bottom lashes are similar to the ones with the red tinsel lashes. I trimmed almost 3/8″ from the width at the outer end of the lashes.

FOTD Aromaleigh + Crystal eyelashes + Too Faced and MAC lips

Well, after yesterday’s horrible lashes, these are real beauties! I didn’t trim these at all, but I think I could take some off the width.

I do not know why they stick so ridiculously to the packaging — I actually ripped a 6/16 section out of the center of one of the lashes getting it off the packaging. I attached the lashes as usual, including the bare strip, then glued in the section I ripped out. It could be that it was because they had sat in the packaging so long. Cripe!

Pictures were taken 6-7 hours after initial makeup.

Photobucket

Inner lid: AL Unicorn l’orchidee
Outer lids: AL Tangle root l’orchidee
Lashes: Ardel Romantic — have double staggered layer of crystals
Lined lower: Moss (green) Arbonne pencil

Tangleroot: Earthy lush green with cool dimensional shimmer sparkles.
Unicorn: Palest yellow luster that phases to a cool blue highlight.

I wanted to choose colors I might not usually wear (the yellow). I can wear greens like this, but I expected it to be more flat avocado (and therefore less wearable for me.) Together these are quite lush. Unicorn looks like a soft orchid on, and not yellow at all. And the green is almost, not quite a cool green, not a yellow green. Don’t be fooled by the color in the ziplock!

FOTD Aromaleigh + Red Tinsel Lashes + MAC & Arbonne lips

Wow! I really had fun with this one! Sometimes serendipity really comes through for you. Still working through all the samples I purchased. It’s fun to have enough that I just put the colors on the counter and pick 2 or 3 I haven’t used yet that I think will go together. Serenade pulls more blue/violet on me than teal (how it looks in the ziplock) , at least when used with Coppelia.

How to place the lid colors
First, I couldn’t decide which color to place on my inner and outer lids. So, I thought, why not do both? I figured it might be fun, and today wouldn’t matter. Surprisingly enough, it is not weird, it is beautiful. I didn’t really like the first eye, but when I did the second, it was just super. I have never done this before, but I might do it really often!

Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost + BE Queen Phyllis
Alternating inner and outer lids: AL serenade + AL coppelia
en pointe
Drylined lower: AL serenade

Serenade: A color inspired by my favorite ballet. Beautiful smooth teal plush matte base with a lush violet iridescent highlight. (Sheen)
Coppelia: A lovely berried plum plush matte base with a dimensional smooth violet highlight. (Sheen)

Mascara: Sapphire Cover Girl
Lashes: Witches Charm Temptress Tentatrice Black with Red tinsel! I bought these one Halloween, might be two years ago from Walgreens or CVS. They have quite an array offered online still, and they aren’t terribly expensive. These came with top and bottom lashes. update: I used them as upper lashes the next day.

FOTD AL Purples and Gold les papillons + MAC lips

This was my FOTD yesterday. Again, working through AL samples that I bought. The colors in the les papillons collection are so pretty and work really well for me. I love the amount of micro glitter in it. I find it very flattering.

Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost + BE Queen Phyllis
Inner Lids: AL earthly delights
les papillons
Outer Lids: AL fragile charms les papillons
Drylined lower: AL emergent beauty les papillons

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Earthly Delights: Silvery taupes morph with earthen greys, reflecting soft sparkles of blue, coral and gold. Metallic.*
Fragile Charms: a muted mauved purple with fuschia and burgundy undertones. Slight blue highlight, silvery metallic smoothness and brilliant diamond glints.
Emergent Beauty: The deepest pearlescent mauved burgundy with smoke tones, deep metallic red and sparkles of russet and aqua. * *= no d&c dyes

FOTD Aromaleigh Jewel + Wild Coco l’orchidee + MAC lips

Still working through the samples I bought.

Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost + BE Queen Phyllis
Outer Corners: Jewel
l’orchidee (purple)
Inner Corners: Wild Coco (golden avocado green, not bright)
Drylined bottom with a mix of both of these colors — the little shimmers on top of the ziplock, not caught inside — don’t want to waste a single shimmer!
Wetlined lower and tightlined upper: Clinique Blacker Violet Never again — it doesn’t really show up, but it also burned in my one eye water line — had to basically remove it.
Tightlighted both top and lower: Clinique Starry Plum — This showed up a bit more. Did not put it in the waterline. MAC is better for the waterline.

Photobucket

Jewel: Cool purple with shimmers of coral gold contrasting the purply goodness.

Blush: Arbonne Promise
Highlight up the center of face: Arbonne Bashful

Photobucket

Lips: MAC Baby Sparks + Smile Dazzleglass, one on each lip and smooshed
Wow! so pretty — I’d seen this on a MUA, so I bought both colors. My camera picked up the micro glitter pretty well.

What do you think?
So far I have loved every color I’ve tried, even the ones I didn’t think I could or would wear (such as this Wild Coco.) I just love the amount of sparkle in each color — loads and loads of tiny micro shimmers.
