NYX Glitter Pallet is available in a number of colors online from Cherry Culture or in store at Ulta. This is from the Paradise pallet.
I got my hair cut today, and it surely needed it! Everywhere I went, someone mentioned how well they liked my eye makeup. The pink glitter is very becoming.

Eyes:
Base: Dior pink toned cream shadow
Crease: NYX Glitter Pallet Pink — bright bubble gum color with multi light pastel glitter
Outer Corner: NYX GP Dark Black with Multi Glitter
Lined top in waterline: Mary Kay black eye pencil
Lined bottom in waterline with MAC graphblack, just outside with earthline
Drylined bottom outside MAC: Ulta Jade mineral powder looks green, pulls gold from the glitter
Mascara:
Top: Lancome Cils primer, Oscillation over it;
Bottom: Definicils
Blush: MAC Dollymix
Brows: Merle Norman powder
Highlight: my own shimmer powder mix, no time for anything else, topped with a bit on BE on my nose
Lips:
Revlon Wine with everything cream gloss
This is a very pretty color. I thought I might want to add silver glitter, but it has a gleam all its own. This is the formula I liked so well.
Again, I used DuWop Reverse Liner just to make sure it wouldn’t migrate, but I don’t know that I needed to. It’s still going strong a couple of hours later.

Verdict:
I raced through trying this product for the first time in order to be on time for my hair cut. You can see how it went on uneven. The pallet has great colors and I will definitely try it again. It comes with 1 applicator with sponges on each end and 1 applicator that has a sponge on one end and a brush on the other. I don’t see how you could use the brush. The product is suspended in a heavy gel. It’s not particularly waxy, but it means the glitter stays put.
I used my finger to apply it because nothing else worked.
One reviewer talked about using this as liner and having to go over it several times to get it even, but that it lasted all night. I have other glitter liners that are a lot easier to use. I don’t know that I would try this as liner. Maybe! She talked about using it on her face, arms, decolletage, etc.

I need to play with it some more, but meantime I look good enough to race around town anyway!
What do you think?

February 18th, 2010 — Beauté, Benefit, Dior, Eye Shadow, FOTD, Foundation, Highlighting, Lancome, Lipstick, MAC, Mascara
I had a long, full day today. These pictures were taken about 10 mins ago, so everything held up really well. I’d say I didn’t do anything but add a lippie, but I did try some MAC colors.
Eyes are the same as yesterday. Meow colors. Mascara is Lancome Oscillation. Used Sephora green pencil to line.
I started this morning with MAC Hello Kitty Popster tinted lip conditioner, rimmed with Beauté Paramour, but I didn’t get a picture. It was really pretty together. I might do it again starting out tomorrow so you can see it.

Primer
Foundation: Lancome minerals + Lancome mineral translucent powder + my sparkly mix
Blush: Beauté liqui-gel Harlot
Later: MAC mineralize blush Moon River
Concealer: Dior skinflash

Tonight I changed the lippie to Benefit frenched. It’s a very pretty red, bluer than the picture looks. Next time I’d do the lipstick on one lip and lipgloss on the other and smoosh it. Even though it’s almost shocking, it would be great with a red shirt.
What did you wear today?

February 12th, 2010 — Allure Choice Award, Aromaleigh, Bare Escentuals, Brows, Chanel, Cosmetics, Equal opportunity customer, FOTD, Foundation, Highlighting, Lancome, Lip Gloss, Mary Kay, Mascara, Meow, NYX, Pencils, Review, Rouge or blush, Victoria Jackson
This is a little more of a made up look than I’ve been wearing lately, but it is really the same amount of product. I could tweak it with a little glitter on my lips, but wanted to show it as-is.
I wanted to try a few E.L.F. products because they are so inexpensive.
Mineral Shadows
The mineral shadows come in the same jar as BE and are about the same size. They compare favorably with BE. They are not as sparkly as AL or Meow, at least the colors I chose. The minerals were the most expensive of any of the products I ordered — $3 each for full size.
Lip liner pencils
The pencils are called Feather-Proof Moisturizing Lip Liner. It has not migrated. For $1, it is worth trying. They have a pretty good mix of colors, most of them are fairly neutral with nuances of color. Spice is not at all orange, but more of a true neutral. I like it, even though it wasn’t what I ordered.
Waterproof pen liner:
This worked well yesterday. The felt tip is sharper (in feel) and dryer than the Mary Kay one that I loved that is discontinued. I forgot to try the black today. I used Midnight yesterday and it did well. Again, $1.

Eyes: All dry except where noted
Base: Trish McEvoy, then my beige sparkly mix
Crease: E.L.F. Caffeinated mineral
Outer corners: E.L.F. Glamorous mineral
Inner Corner: Meow because photo made it look matte, which it doesn’t in RL — don’t know why the camera does this — and of course, in RL you don’t go around with one eye closed; it is a flash of color when you blink.

Drylined E.L.F. Royal mineral, top and lower outside pencil line, then wetlined on top, very pretty wetlined
Pencil lined, top and bottom (no MAC, LOL) E.L.F. Plum brightening eye liner
Mascara: top BE Buxom; lower Lancome Definicils
Brows: Victoria Jackson pencil
Face:
Comparing Lancome foundation on one side and Chanel on the other
Revlon Primer
E.L.F. Persimmon Shimmering Facial Whip glimmer up middle of face (this would be good to give your face color in winter or whenever you needed a pick-me-up, placing it differently on your face)
E.L.F. Spice Lined lips and filled in (they sent me this by mistake, not the one I ordered, but I thought I’d try it anyway)
E.L.F. Blossom Hypershine Lip Gloss
E.L.F. Bitter Went over lip line and inside with
E.L.F. Pink Lemonade All Over Color Stick (such a cute little size, almost a sample)
And my glimmer powder mix.
Shimmering Facial Whip: this is a nice product and comes in several shades. The browner ones would be good for getting a tanned look without being in the sun. I might try one of those next. This has an Allure Choice Award.
Multipurpose, on-the-go whipped colorant is vitamin B, C and E packed to instantly brighten and sooth skin with no greasy after-feel.
Squeeze a pearl-sized [more like a dot] amount onto finger and blend into cheeks, eyes, or lips.
Hypershine Gloss
This was not as visible as some glosses I own. It has some taste, but it was not at all objectionable. I punched it up with more lip liner. I intentionally chose a neutral, as well as to the color range I don’t usually buy. If you can’t do that for $1, when can you?
Hyper, glass-like shine infused with micro-mirror technology to reflect light. Smooths lips on contact with a conditioning shine that lasts for hours. Create that natural lip stain of color that’s sheer, subtle and beautiful!
Wet Gloss Lash & Brow Clear Mascara
Book Girl has gorgeous thick lashes that almost brush her sunglasses. Any colored mascara looks mascara-y. I thought this might give her some definition, but still look natural. She tried it yesterday, and it worked well.
Achieve glossy, shiny, healthy-looking lashes and brows with the infused long wearing conditioning agents in our wet gloss lash & brow mascara. Looking pulled together has never been easier!
Today she is using the AL clear mascara. She says this went on with more product on the first application. Both feel equally light.
All over color stick This would be good for airplane travel.
This worked well. It’s quite a darling little size. I wouldn’t mind an array of colors. I would think this would work better for dry skin than for oily.
Duo Eye Shadow Cream
This is the only product I bought that I haven’t tried yet. I thought I might try it as a dark base under minerals.
My opinion, you can’t go wrong for the price.
The actual packaging, not of the product, but of the containers is not as rich as NYX. NYX has more of the look of MAC.
These are not as high-glam or as Indie in appearance when on as AL or Meow, but some items, like the lip pencils, are more than favorable for drugstore lines, especially for price.
I think my girls would enjoy having some of this. It would make good stocking stuffers. Or even birthday favors.

January 28th, 2010 — Cosmetics, Eye liner, FOTD, Jordana, Lip Gloss, Lipstick, MAC, Mary Kay, Mascara, Merle Norman, NYX, Sephora, Techniques
I did this look yesterday, but I didn’t have time to post it. I was very pleased with how it turned out and felt I looked great all day. All my pictures turned out well too, so it is difficult to pick the ones to show! I have no idea what I’m going to do with my eyes yet for today.

Eyes:
Brand New Mary Kay Spring 2009 Luminous Color Blue, Brown, Green in single square pan $15 This isn’t even in their online catalog yet!
Cost for compact if you want one $18
Lime green on lid
Brown in crease and on outer corners — pretty, fairly light shade
Lined eyes:
Turquoise Blue as bright liner on top and outside of the MAC pencils on the bottom
Bottom Lined: MAC graphblack on waterline; earthline below that
Top lined at edge of waterline from underneath Sephora bright turquoise waterproof flashy liner pencil
Mascara: Stiletto on top; Lancome on bottom.

Brows: Merle Norman powder. You can see how well it covers. It’s a great shade!

Lips: NYX Round Gloss Queen of Africa
Blush:
I tried a really fun thing for the first time. I have a multitude of lip pencils that I rarely use. I decided to take one of them and use it as a blush. I used Jordana Magenta. This is a very inexpensive pencil I bought at the drug store several years ago. I just don’t wear such strong magentas as lippies for the most part any more, so it sits unused.
Technique: I drew a fairly good sized swatch on the end of my index finger. I added one tiny drop of moisturizer and smooshed it together with my other index finger. I then applied this on my cheek bones.
I love the color and will definitely do this again and with other colors.

January 10th, 2010 — Aromaleigh, Bare Escentuals, Beauté, FOTD, Foundation, La Prairie, Lancome, Lip Balm, MAC, Mascara, Mineral, Pencils, Primer, Review, Smashbox
This is the first time I’ve used the NXY shadows that came in my amazingly cheap haul.
NYX TS29, White, Tropical, Silver (this looks like a soft blue)
Brows: La Prairie pencil
Mascara: BE Buxom on top; took picture before I put any on the lower lashes
Lined lower: MAC Light as Air + Mac earthline below that

I don’t know which came first, the shirt or the eye colors. The shirt is one of my many Ts from Target. This one is so soft with 3/4 sleeves. I knew I could wear the color, so I assumed I could wear the color on my eyes. The funny thing is that without having tried Aromaleigh’s reds on my eyes, I don’t know that I would have tried an orange — apricot, yes; orange, no.

Primer: Smashbox
Foundation: Lancome minerals + Lancome mineral translucent powder + my sparkly mix
Blush: MAC Moon River mineralize blush
Blush Later: MAC what was left on my fingers from the Popster lip conditioner
Highlight: AL Magnolia , up the center of my face — this is the perfect shade for me; I can use the others, but one is light and I have to be careful not to use too much; this one is a 5 second application, with no errors.
Concealer: Dior skinflash
Lips: MAC Hello Kitty Popster tinted lip conditioner, rimmed with Beauté Paramour
I was really happy with the way this turned out.
How about you?
Have you tried any of the NYX shadows?
My take:
I’d give this shadow set a 5. They were easy to use, very nice packaging, with a super mirror which was unexpected.

December 25th, 2009 — Cosmetics, Lancome, Mascara, Maybelline, Review, Spinlash, Truth in advertising
Is Spinlash a gimmick? or a gimmick that has found its time? It’s interesting that so many oscillating, spinning, and vibrating mascaras have come out at about the same time. Perhaps an inventor made a presentation to a major company — and was turned down, similar to the story of the variating wiper blades for cars — and then the idea folks at the major companies brought out their own spin, pun intended.
Ah well, we consumers reap the benefits.
I had not heard of Spinlash mascara — I’d missed all the TV ads — until my 13 yo came home and told me that one of her good friends had it. Did she like it? yes. Did it work? yes. And she wanted one…and wanted one… She’s new to mascara and doesn’t like it to look like she has it on, particularly, and definitely doesn’t want any heavier places or clumps.
So, when I found one, I bought it to give it a try.
Here’s what it looked like on me today. And this is the first time I’ve used it on the bottom lashes.

On the whole, the mascara is great. The wand is bigger than most and a tad heavier. There are dual buttons that work nicely to spin the brush in opposite directions depending on whether you are doing upper or lower lashes.
It goes on smoothly. I don’t like to do multiple coats, so it took a couple of day’s applications to figure out how hard to press the brush into my lashes to get the amount of mascara that I wanted.
It worked easier on the bottom lashes today than I had expected.
Unlike Lancome’s Oscillation mascara, this brush doesn’t have any particular sensation when you use it. LO can be addictive simply for the little fairy finger massage your lashes get. And sometimes do-it-yourself massage pampering is a very good thing.
Try it, you’ll like it.
Karin
5 for how the mascara lasts and doesn’t flake or smudge
5 for ease of application once you get the hang of it
3 for size of the wand, it’s a bit bulky
1 that you can’t change out the battery
4 for price $14.95, less than Lancome, more than Stiletto

December 12th, 2009 — Comparing, Cosmetics, Eye Shadow, Eye cream, Eye liner, Foundation, Highlighting, Lip Gloss, Lipstick, Mascara, Perfumes, Techniques, Truth in advertising
I had to laugh when my 13 yo asked to use the Spinlash mascara last night. (My review is here.) I knew it was right before her shower. She informed me that she was trying one mascara on one eye and Spinlash on the other to see how they both looked and worked. Good girl!
She is at the age where she would like to start wearing makeup, but she is afraid someone might notice and make a negative comment, never mind that other girls are putting it on with spatulas.
Her first foray into mascara was a few weeks ago, and so far, she has opted not to wear it to school. She felt it was too hard to apply, and she wondered if she had done it right. (She had.)
That reminds me of a story from my niece in years gone by. She had a gf whose mother was a hair stylist. Her mother forbade her to wear makeup. I said to my niece, “She puts it on at school, doesn’t she?” And my niece was amazed that I knew. I wasn’t born yesterday.
How much better it would have been for her mother, who had access to all kinds of great products, to provide her with good products in right colors, show her how to use them, and let her go at it. Or, give her some of her own products that she was no longer using. I might not spend the money for my girls’ makeup, but it doesn’t feel like I’m spending anything when I let them ’shop’ in my stash. I have some lovely products, a little too dark for me, that look grand on this 13 yo.
I make comparisons between products all the time. Here’s how:
In general, compare only one thing at a time.
If I’m comparing foundation, I do not compare skin care the same day or vice versa.
How would I know which was contributing to the look?
Compare over the course of the day Look at it in various lights.
How does it compare at first? How does it compare after I’ve worn it a bit? Does one side look more moist or dewy? Has it smudged? Is it irritating?
How does it feel?
Conversely, if you have a lot of oil or a steady T-zone, how is it holding up, is it disappearing? Is oil coming through?
Comparing foundations or skin care
I divide my face with an imaginary line up the middle. I learned this years ago from a consultant for Viviane Woodard who gave talks at women’s groups with full makeup on one side and none on the other. That took chutzpa!
I use one product on one side, one on the other. Everything else is the same. I look at it in various lights and ask my daughters or a friend — and sometimes even SAs if I’m around makeup counters — which side they prefer. Surprisingly, or not, we usually prefer the same side.
The differences are subtle. Without being asked, and without drawing attention to it, no one would notice. But I notice; I’m particular; and I’m really looking for what is best.
If there’s any doubt, I do it several times over the course of a few days, switching sides, so that it isn’t my ‘good’ side that is providing the answer.
Eye cream
Use one on and under one eye; the other on and under the other eye. See which side is still hydrated and has less lines than the other over the course of the day.
Mascara
Try one mascara on one upper lash; the other on the other. Compare them over the course of the day.
Eye shadows or eye liners
I have been known to actually do two different looks, one on each eye. Most people don’t notice, LOL. You can compare brands, similar shades, different formulations, etc. You can even be intentional, as for a mardi gras look.
Perfumes
One on each arm or one on each wrist. You could put one on your arms, one on your legs.
I am reviewing two now that will go up later in the day, but I’m waiting to describe the mid and end points. I’ve worn them for several days this way, but I haven’t yet taken the time to describe them.
Lipsticks and lip glosses
You can put one on one lip and the other on the other and smoosh your lips together.
Or, you can try one, and when it is gone, try the next one.
Hair products
Generally, I compare on different days, but it is possible to compare products that tame frizz, for example, one on one side, one on the other. That way you know which you prefer and which you will re-buy. Or you could compare shampoos, by using one for the first wash, the other for the second, always remembering that the second sudses up more, so reverse it the next day.

December 4th, 2009 — Aromaleigh, Estee Lauder, Eye Shadow, Lip Gloss, Mascara, Maybelline, Milani, Revlon, Truth in advertising
It pays to wander around CVS because you have some of their coupons.
If you don’t have one of their little cards/numbers that track your purchases, you are missing out on a lot of freebies. And meantime, you shop the store because the coupons expire (I’ve been known to not use one and find it when it is out of date.)
I had some coupons burning a hole in my pocket, so I decided to buy more of the Revlon gloss that I liked so well. While wondering around, I noticed they had several coupons out: buying $20 of certain Revlon products gave you a $10 coupon. Ditto for something similar with Milani products, buying $10, gave you a coupon — might have been for $10, can’t remember now.
I used my free coupon on the Revlon gloss (I bought 3) which gave me $10 and I turned around and used it for another one.
In Milani, I bought two eyeshadows. They come in round packaging. One was Royalty; the other was Coffee Shop. Royalty is a beautiful orchid color, shot with irridescent, blue-purple glitter. CS is a gorgeous cross between brown and copper, shot with copper gloss. Unfortunately, the glitter is only on the top and not through them. I’m using the color only in one spot so I can see the glitter they used with it.

It almost seems like deceptive packaging. This has happened to me with other brands.
There is one, though, that is shot clear through, made by Vincent Longo. I have it in several colors: flesh, black, and a copper shade.
I have plenty of glitter from Aromaleigh that I love and can top the Milani ones with — that’s not the point. It just seems too bad that they didn’t put it all through the product. I’m going to tell the SA next time I see her.
Lid: light neutral beige with glitter
Crease: Royalty
Outer corners: CS
Topped with: AL Rocks Glitter, Shake it up
Lined bottom with Mac Black on waterline and MAC brown just below it
Mascara: Maybelline Stiletto on top; Lancome mini on bottom
Now what lipgloss do you think this is? I have no idea, and I thought I’d remember, so I didn’t list it above. I think it is gorgeous! Perhaps it is the Rimmel? I’ll try that again tomorrow.

It is Revlon Lipgloss 020 Pink Afterglow. It has subtle sparkles in it.

Royalty and CS 5 for color
-3 that glitter was only on top of the product
2 overall rating because I really hate that!

November 25th, 2009 — Andrea Lash Glue, Ardel, Aromaleigh, Bare Escentuals, Eye liner, FOTD, False lashes, Greens, Lipstick, MAC, Mascara, Milani, Purples, Reds
I’ve posted my tutorial about the false lashes.
To show the glitter line of the lashes:

Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost + BE Queen Phyllis
Aromaleigh shadows
Center of lid: Clara en pointe
Outer corner and crease: Pique en pointe
Inner corner and drylined lower: Arabesque en pointe
Interesting how all the different shimmers work together, and you really can’t tell by looking in the ziplocks.
Arabesque: A refined bluish green with highlight shimmers of green and gold. Multi-facted and rich frost. (Frost)
Piqué: A lovely mauved purply brown with light-changing lustre, travels from purply-blue to blue-green. (Sheen)
Clara: Festive warm purple with a twist… an unexpected smokey base and a sweet blue and pink traveling iridescent highlight. (Frost)
Mascara: Stiletto Black
Lashes: Ardel Glamourous Lashes – black with glitter along skin edge
I wanted to try something really different, not just plain lashes as I used to wear. Why not!
Upper Inner Lid lined to match into lashes: White glitter gel — I might put some on the lower later.
Upper Inner Lid beneath the glitter and lower tightlined: MAC graphblack — doing this beneath the glitter made the line of the lashes blend into my own eye.
Lower Tightlined: MAC Navy Stain pencil

Lips Borghese Chilled Wine
This is a pretty color in RL, more luminescent than the picture shows. I prefer more of a gloss look. I should have used 1/2 gloss, but was going for more of the lash thang. It matches the shadow color though!

November 24th, 2009 — Aromaleigh, Bare Escentuals, Browns, FOTD, Greens, Lauren Luke Panacea81, Lip Gloss, MAC, Mascara, Purples
I saw Collection 2000 (Hustle) glitter gel liner in a Lauren Luke video, and it inspired me to break out the glitter gel liners I have. For the most part, I haven’t liked them as well as dry glitter in the past, because the glitter doesn’t suspend equally so it goes on uneven, but I thought I’d give them a try again. Hustle is a gorgeous color on, and as near as I can figure, it is not available in the US. Collection 2000 is very reasonably priced. I did not try to dupe the colors Lauren used, which were brighter than these. I might do that tomorrow.
Still working through the samples I purchased.
Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost + BE Queen Phyllis
Outer lids: AL Moth l’orchidee
Inner lids: AL Dragon l’orchidee
Drylined upper and lower: AL Elegie en pointe

Mascara: Icing by Claire duo: violet + silver glitter mascara too
Tight Lined upper and lower: combination of glitter gels from Milano duo mascaras (turquoise; blue; white)+ used Claire glitter mascara as a gel liner too

Moth: Pale and delicate iridescent tones appear softly grey, always changing.
Dragon: Fascinating green, muted in tone but with a smoked base and pearl luster.
Elegie: A dark dose of shimmering jewels. Add to other shades to deepen and dramatize, use wet-lined or all-over for a magnificent, glimmering smokey eye.

Lips:
MAC Funtabulous (orchid dazzle gloss)+ Victoria Secret Roxie gloss (bright pink with purple/blue micro glitter)
Funtabulous: Purple with violet pearl

November 23rd, 2009 — Arbonne, Aromaleigh, Bare Escentuals, Blues, Chanel, Cover Girl, Eye Shadow, FOTD, Highlighting, Lauren Luke Panacea81, Lip Gloss, Lipstick, Mary Kay, Mascara
Still trying sample colors I bought. Both shadow colors are gorgeous today! In my new colors I couldn’t find a green that looked compatible with my shirt, so I thought I would go with a color that had as much depth.
This was a simple look. Sometimes you have to know when to quit. I could have done more liner, etc. but why when this looked perfect as-is.
Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost + BE Queen Phyllis
Inner lids: AL Air and Light les papillons
Outer lids and drylined lower: AL Flutura’s Cloud les papillions
Mascara: Cover Girl Sapphire Eyelights
Air & Light: A silvery white with highlights and sparks of every shade of the rainbow. Full of delightful dimension and interference shimmer, this shade passes into the ether. [no d&c dye in this one]
Flutura’s Cloud: A brilliant blue of exceptional vibrancy and depth. Metallic heart with intense blue frost and sparks of blue, red and gold. This shade was inspired by the amazing color of the Blue Morpho Butterfly.

Blush: AL Dolly
Highlight: Mary Kay up the center of my face, over foundation, Chanel stick rouge and my sparkly powder mix

Lips: Arbonne Bubblegum over whatever was left of some gloss, topped with Lauren Luke gloss — Chose this color as much for the depth of it as the color.

September 20th, 2009 — Arbonne, Bare Escentuals, Browns, Brows, Eye liner, FOTD, Foundation, La Prairie, Lip Gloss, MAC, Mascara, Purples, Rouge or blush, Shiseido, Smashbox
This is such a pretty palette! Arbonne offered it last Christmas and again this Christmas. It could easily be the only colors I took on a trip.
This is the first time I used it, and I wanted to try it alone, which I did, straight out of the set, (almost) nothing added.
There are many ways the shadows could be applied — for instance, using the Blue-Grey as the main color or as the liner.
Eye Colors: Shimmery almost-white; deep Blue-Gray; Brown [I used this to dryline]; Rosey-Apricot.
Blush: Peachy Apricot (I did use some NARS Riviera too)
Additional Colors
Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost, then BE Queen Phyllis
Tightlined: MAC Blackgraph
Brows: La Prairie pencil
Mascara: Maybelline Pulse Perfection

Primer: Smashbox
Foundation: Shiseido cream

Lips:
The gloss included with this set is a beautiful bright almost orchid pink.

Do you have this set?
Of the two sets, I ordered only this one, but I think I might order the other too.
If you don’t have a consultant, but would like to get something in Arbonne, just ask and I’ll forward it on to Bookgirl.
