I felt like bright turquoise today, and that made me think immediately of the colors that Aromaleigh has.
Eyes: all Aromaleigh, except where noted:
Crease: caribe, pure hue
Outer corners: aqua nightmare, gothic lolita
Inner corners: endless sea, rocks! sonic eyes
Drylined upper and lower: moonagedaydream, rocks! sonic eyes
Tight Lined upper and wet lined lower: Jordana Sterling Blue
Brows: Clinique soft blonde pencil
Mascara: Guerlain Le2 (double sided with small brush for lower lashes)
Foundation: Lancome minerals — still trying to figure out how — and how much — to use; see how funky my nose looks here? I saw it in sunlight and took care of it. Generally I leave everything off my nose for this reason.
Powder: Lancome minerals
Highlight: AL magnolia blossom
Blush: AL english rose (a powder, not a blush, that didn’t show up, so used it across my face, lightly)
Blush: Meow Masterpiece Water Lilies
Lips:
NYX Lips Hebe — this one doesn’t migrate. It’s got a lovely sheen to it, doesn’t feel slippery — and it doesn’t move into liplines around the mouth.

NYX Glitter Pallet is available in a number of colors online from Cherry Culture or in store at Ulta. This is from the Paradise pallet.
I got my hair cut today, and it surely needed it! Everywhere I went, someone mentioned how well they liked my eye makeup. The pink glitter is very becoming.
Eyes:
Base: Dior pink toned cream shadow Crease: NYX Glitter Pallet Pink — bright bubble gum color with multi light pastel glitter Outer Corner: NYX GP Dark Black with Multi Glitter Lined top in waterline: Mary Kay black eye pencil Lined bottom in waterline with MAC graphblack, just outside with earthline Drylined bottom outside MAC: Ulta Jade mineral powder looks green, pulls gold from the glitter Mascara: Top: Lancome Cils primer, Oscillation over it; Bottom: Definicils Blush: MAC Dollymix Brows: Merle Norman powder
Highlight: my own shimmer powder mix, no time for anything else, topped with a bit on BE on my nose
Lips:
Revlon Wine with everything cream gloss
This is a very pretty color. I thought I might want to add silver glitter, but it has a gleam all its own. This is the formula I liked so well.
Again, I used DuWop Reverse Liner just to make sure it wouldn’t migrate, but I don’t know that I needed to. It’s still going strong a couple of hours later.
Verdict:
I raced through trying this product for the first time in order to be on time for my hair cut. You can see how it went on uneven. The pallet has great colors and I will definitely try it again. It comes with 1 applicator with sponges on each end and 1 applicator that has a sponge on one end and a brush on the other. I don’t see how you could use the brush. The product is suspended in a heavy gel. It’s not particularly waxy, but it means the glitter stays put.
I used my finger to apply it because nothing else worked.
One reviewer talked about using this as liner and having to go over it several times to get it even, but that it lasted all night. I have other glitter liners that are a lot easier to use. I don’t know that I would try this as liner. Maybe! She talked about using it on her face, arms, decolletage, etc.
I need to play with it some more, but meantime I look good enough to race around town anyway!

If you are lucky enough to get Sephora’s catalogs, you know how much fun it is to see the colors they show for each season.
Spring 2010 is no exception.
Bright and vibrant
The colors are bright and vibrant, more bright and vibrant than they have been in a while — and they fit right in with the advertising and bottle of Sara Jessica Parker’s new NYC fragrance. The dress she wears in the print ads would fit right in with the Sephora catalog.
I suspect this will get fashionistas to open their wallets for new colors.
Splitting lid and under eye colors
One thing I find particularly interesting about the eye makeup is that they are splitting the colors from the lid to the under eye. This is throughout the catalog.
Some looks to try Grey and plum
One particularly pretty look is on a model with dark hair and light gray eyes. Her lids are deep gray, with a pink in the area under the brow. Her under eye is a deep purple/plum. She is wearing deep pink lipstick.
Warm pink or apricot with blue or purple
The model has dark hair and brown eyes. Her lid is warm pink. Her undereye is either periwinkle blue or purple. She is wearing a medium pink lip. I didn’t like this look as well. The contrast is too great in the shadow colors.
A couple of interesting eyes with vertical placement of colors
This is an interesting look, one that they perhaps copied from the gorgeous Shiseido print ad of a couple of seasons ago. You’d have to have the right eye and the right colors and the right place to wear this look for it to be successful. However, the Shiseido eye was magnificent. I’d like to have someone do that eye on me.
Bright pink shadow
This wasn’t particularly pretty on a couple of models. Not the right shade of pink for their skin tones.
Only one model that looks natural
She’s on page 12 and in her early 20’s, if that. Blond hair, blue eyes, pink nude lip, soft nude shadows.
Bright blue liner
The model is dark haired, brown eyed, medium tone skin, wearing nude pink lip. The only splash of color is the liner.
Bright turquoise shadow or liner
I use this a lot. It was vibrant on the model.
Important to get the balance right
For these looks to look right — and not just tacky (which some of these looked) (unless you are going for tacky) — the balance of tone, shades and colors has to be right. Sometimes a nude lip works; sometimes a bright lip works. They are pairing with brights in shadows either way.
It will be interesting to see if this color trend crosses all the major and indie cosmetic lines. Then, if people will embrace it.
I’m definitely going to try the gray and plum look.

Lipstick: NYX Love Angel, from the amazingly cheap haul — My take: this was a very pretty color and not one I would have bought if it weren’t in the package. So getting the package gives new colors to try. I simply reapplied this one throughout the day. If you notice, it seems to separate at the lines, but smooshing it smooths it down again. I’m not sure why it does that. It has a slight taste and smell that is not objectionable.
I thought this was a soft, pretty look. It’s not a look I wear very often, but it bears repeating. It was quite nice.

Lips: NYX Round Gloss Queen of Africa
Blush:
I tried a really fun thing for the first time. I have a multitude of lip pencils that I rarely use. I decided to take one of them and use it as a blush. I used Jordana Magenta. This is a very inexpensive pencil I bought at the drug store several years ago. I just don’t wear such strong magentas as lippies for the most part any more, so it sits unused.
Technique: I drew a fairly good sized swatch on the end of my index finger. I added one tiny drop of moisturizer and smooshed it together with my other index finger. I then applied this on my cheek bones.
I love the color and will definitely do this again and with other colors.

Nars The Multiple
The Multiple is the original all-in-one, cream-to-powder, multi-purpose makeup stick. With fingertip application, The Multiple highlights, sculpts, and warms eyes, cheeks, lips, and body in an array of shades from sheer accents to mauve and bronze. Sephora
I’ve used this for my cheeks before, but had not tried it for lips until today. See my FOTD.
Using Beauté technique
See more about the technique here. Lips: Nars Riviera, on entire lip MAC Kitty Power glitter eyeliner, used to rim. This is a gorgeous shade, very pretty on the lips. I’ve used it less so far on my eyes. NYX Chandelier in center. This is a pretty orchid pink shade. Here’s a picture from an earlier FOTD that shows how it looks alone.
My finished lip I thought it was soft and pretty.
What I like about the Beauté technique It’s easy. Subtle
It gives a softer and fresher take on lippies than a lip pencil does. Camouflages
It camouflages the little outer edge lip lines better than a pencil does. Volumizes
It actually works to make the lips more voluminous. Youthens
Isn’t this a great word! I saw this somewhere online yesterday and thought I’d start using it.
Have you used this technique yet?
Please try it, if you haven’t! Then, let me know.

The lips are a match for my shirt, only deeper, not as red as they show up with flash.
IdealEyes description My view: They are pearlized, not frosted, with a high sheen, so I felt I could work with the dark colors on my fair skin. There would be enough light reflected that they would work well. While a little dark for day for spring, they matched my shirt and I wanted to try them.
Our top selling line of mineral shadows! They’re pearlized (or, as we like to think of them, “purrr-lized”!) shadow colors with sophistication. They’re available in a full range of color choices, with a rich, creamy consistency that clings to the brush for easy and smooth long wearing application. Beautiful colors that catch the light with the soft, glowing, velvety sheen. Elegant, yet fun, you’ll want them all!

I had to laugh when my 13 yo asked to use the Spinlash mascara last night. (My review is here.) I knew it was right before her shower. She informed me that she was trying one mascara on one eye and Spinlash on the other to see how they both looked and worked. Good girl!
She is at the age where she would like to start wearing makeup, but she is afraid someone might notice and make a negative comment, never mind that other girls are putting it on with spatulas.
Her first foray into mascara was a few weeks ago, and so far, she has opted not to wear it to school. She felt it was too hard to apply, and she wondered if she had done it right. (She had.)
That reminds me of a story from my niece in years gone by. She had a gf whose mother was a hair stylist. Her mother forbade her to wear makeup. I said to my niece, “She puts it on at school, doesn’t she?” And my niece was amazed that I knew. I wasn’t born yesterday.
How much better it would have been for her mother, who had access to all kinds of great products, to provide her with good products in right colors, show her how to use them, and let her go at it. Or, give her some of her own products that she was no longer using. I might not spend the money for my girls’ makeup, but it doesn’t feel like I’m spending anything when I let them ’shop’ in my stash. I have some lovely products, a little too dark for me, that look grand on this 13 yo.
I make comparisons between products all the time. Here’s how:
In general, compare only one thing at a time.
If I’m comparing foundation, I do not compare skin care the same day or vice versa.
How would I know which was contributing to the look?
Compare over the course of the day Look at it in various lights.
How does it compare at first? How does it compare after I’ve worn it a bit? Does one side look more moist or dewy? Has it smudged? Is it irritating?
How does it feel?
Conversely, if you have a lot of oil or a steady T-zone, how is it holding up, is it disappearing? Is oil coming through?
Comparing foundations or skin care
I divide my face with an imaginary line up the middle. I learned this years ago from a consultant for Viviane Woodard who gave talks at women’s groups with full makeup on one side and none on the other. That took chutzpa!
I use one product on one side, one on the other. Everything else is the same. I look at it in various lights and ask my daughters or a friend — and sometimes even SAs if I’m around makeup counters — which side they prefer. Surprisingly, or not, we usually prefer the same side.
The differences are subtle. Without being asked, and without drawing attention to it, no one would notice. But I notice; I’m particular; and I’m really looking for what is best.
If there’s any doubt, I do it several times over the course of a few days, switching sides, so that it isn’t my ‘good’ side that is providing the answer.
Eye cream
Use one on and under one eye; the other on and under the other eye. See which side is still hydrated and has less lines than the other over the course of the day.
Mascara
Try one mascara on one upper lash; the other on the other. Compare them over the course of the day.
Eye shadows or eye liners
I have been known to actually do two different looks, one on each eye. Most people don’t notice, LOL. You can compare brands, similar shades, different formulations, etc. You can even be intentional, as for a mardi gras look.
Perfumes
One on each arm or one on each wrist. You could put one on your arms, one on your legs.
I am reviewing two now that will go up later in the day, but I’m waiting to describe the mid and end points. I’ve worn them for several days this way, but I haven’t yet taken the time to describe them.
Lipsticks and lip glosses
You can put one on one lip and the other on the other and smoosh your lips together.
Or, you can try one, and when it is gone, try the next one.
Hair products
Generally, I compare on different days, but it is possible to compare products that tame frizz, for example, one on one side, one on the other. That way you know which you prefer and which you will re-buy. Or you could compare shampoos, by using one for the first wash, the other for the second, always remembering that the second sudses up more, so reverse it the next day.

Wild Lashes by aiibeauty.com
These are really weird lashes (Halloween again) and they bothered me all day because I felt self-conscious about them. No one remarked negatively about them, but I felt negative. The silver doesn’t show up from a distance, so it looks like half your lashes fell out, LOL!
They are too long for my own lashes, but I don’t want to trim them back. My 14 yo liked them, even though they are long.
The interesting, way cool part is that underneath the silver picks up the color of the outfit you wear (so they might pick up the color of your hair on top.) In the sun with the shirt I was wearing, they were a gorgeous, iridescent, radiant copper from below.
I loved the Aromaleigh shadows. I especially loved Orinoco! I didn’t take the pictures until evening, so it is more muted than it began as my hands were up by my eyes fiddling with the lashes.
Dragon: Fascinating green, muted in tone but with a smoked base and pearl luster. Orinoco: Soft peach lustre that reveals a satiny borealis iridescence.

Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost + BE Queen Phyllis Aromaleigh shadows Center of lid: Clara en pointe Outer corner and crease: Pique en pointe Inner corner and drylined lower: Arabesque en pointe
Interesting how all the different shimmers work together, and you really can’t tell by looking in the ziplocks.
Arabesque: A refined bluish green with highlight shimmers of green and gold. Multi-facted and rich frost. (Frost) Piqué: A lovely mauved purply brown with light-changing lustre, travels from purply-blue to blue-green. (Sheen) Clara: Festive warm purple with a twist… an unexpected smokey base and a sweet blue and pink traveling iridescent highlight. (Frost)
Mascara: Stiletto Black Lashes: Ardel Glamourous Lashes – black with glitter along skin edge
I wanted to try something really different, not just plain lashes as I used to wear. Why not! Upper Inner Lid lined to match into lashes: White glitter gel — I might put some on the lower later. Upper Inner Lid beneath the glitter and lower tightlined: MAC graphblack — doing this beneath the glitter made the line of the lashes blend into my own eye. Lower Tightlined: MAC Navy Stain pencil

This is a pretty color in RL, more luminescent than the picture shows. I prefer more of a gloss look. I should have used 1/2 gloss, but was going for more of the lash thang. It matches the shadow color though!

Saturday’s look: still trying out the samples I ordered from AL.
This was my inspiration: I thought she was gorgeous.
An ad for Rocks Jewelers. I could not find it online so I took a picture of it.
Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost + BE Queen Phyllis
Inner corners: AL Soul Takes Flight les papillons Outer corners and drylined lower: AL Morphing Moon les papillons Tightlined upper and wet lined lower: MAC blackgraph Tightlined lower: MAC earthline
Blush and highlight: Arbonne
Lips: Avon Mark Queen Peine Metallicious + BE Ruby
When I was finished
I started out thinking I would do the colors exactly as she did, knowing of course that my eyes are brown, but when I finished I realized that I had pulled the color of her eyes into mine by using the green Morphing Moon. That was serendipitous; I hadn’t planned it; it was just how it morphed (pun intended.)

Yesterday I posted my first application of My Smokey Classics, what I would call a normal, smokey look.
Today I wanted to go dramatic. I intentionally applied it as dark as I felt I wanted for a daytime look. Plus it’s fall, and I should be able to carry off more smokiness. I believe it would go even darker. You can see from the picture far below that it doesn’t look this dark full face, but it is dark!
Here is Lauren Luke applying My Smokey Classics:
There is an annoying ad at the beginning, sorry!
The kit includes:
- 2 blendable primers – Nude Slip Dark & Nude Slip Light [the same shades in each kit]
- 3 flattering eye shadows – Antique Pewter, Twilight Ash & Cashmere Cream
- 1 defining eyeliner – Raven Black
- 1 contouring blush – Peach Glow
- 2 luscious lip shades – Plumberry & Cranberry Stain
- 1 My Glossy Lips lip gloss in Sheer [the same with each kit -- I like it a lot; one is now in my purse.]
Here’s my look today:
I had a lot of fun on Halloween. I went as a Flower Child/Hippie, but didn’t take any pictures. I basically copied the look of the video demonstration of Smokey Eyes with Cat Marnell. Surprisingly, I liked it on me, and didn’t feel it was way too over the top! For that look, because this palette had not arrived yet, I used a very dark Chanel shadow. I liked the look so well that I’m sure I will duplicate it more.
Today I modified the look, softening it a tad. I could have gone deeper with liner, but wanted to show that it could be toned down a bit. And I wanted to use only the items from this palette.
Technique Primer: I blended the two shades together, and the color exactly matched my eyelids. I have tried each color alone at other times. Then BE Queen Phyllis to lay a foundation. Lids: Antique Pewter – this is a gorgeous brown — heavily to ensure that Twilight Ash went on smoothly and to soften the look a bit for daytime Whole lid and dry lined lower: Twilight Ash, this is sparkly and very black, similar to a MAC that I have, but very nice to have all in one place for this look Crease: Antique Pewter, in the manner Cat used bronzer, and also a bit of Cashmere Cream (it’s a powder) under the brow and to soften the top edge Tightlined: Black liner from palette.
Do you have this palette?
How do you like to wear it? Do you have a favorite of Lauren’s?
