FOTD Maybelline Eyestudio 05 Give Me Gold

I’ve played with this set for several days changing placement of the colors, but I didn’t take any pictures until today. Generally I don’t wear gold or brown shadows very well, but these are quite nice.

FOTD AL Moth Dragon Elegie + MAC and VS lips

I saw Collection 2000 (Hustle) glitter gel liner in a Lauren Luke video, and it inspired me to break out the glitter gel liners I have. For the most part, I haven’t liked them as well as dry glitter in the past, because the glitter doesn’t suspend equally so it goes on uneven, but I thought I’d give them a try again. Hustle is a gorgeous color on, and as near as I can figure, it is not available in the US. Collection 2000 is very reasonably priced. I did not try to dupe the colors Lauren used, which were brighter than these. I might do that tomorrow.

Still working through the samples I purchased.

Inner lids: AL Dragon l’orchidee

Mascara: Icing by Claire duo: violet + silver glitter mascara too
Tight Lined upper and lower: combination of glitter gels from Milano duo mascaras (turquoise; blue; white)+ used Claire glitter mascara as a gel liner too

Moth: Pale and delicate iridescent tones appear softly grey, always changing.
Dragon: Fascinating green, muted in tone but with a smoked base and pearl luster.
Elegie: A dark dose of shimmering jewels. Add to other shades to deepen and dramatize, use wet-lined or all-over for a magnificent, glimmering smokey eye.

I started out thinking I would do the colors exactly as she did, knowing of course that my eyes are brown, but when I finished I realized that I had pulled the color of her eyes into mine by using the green Morphing Moon. That was serendipitous; I hadn’t planned it; it was just how it morphed (pun intended.)

Lined: AL Drama Queen Red used with a sealer — gorgeous sparkles — I chose this over using Black Cherry gel liner. I had not used it before.

Once again, when there are so many choices of colors and so many choices of techniques, I have to see what calls to me. This color exactly matches a shirt I’m wearing today. So that led me to the reds and the lippie and made the choice easier.

FOTD My Smokey Classics by Lauren Luke — Natural Look

Yesterday I posted a dramatic look of My Smokey Classics. Today I wanted to do a very natural look, using mostly the wonderful taupey brown in it.

I intentionally applied it as natural as I wanted.

Photobucket

You can buy this set at Sephora for $37.

Here is Lauren Luke applying My Smokey Classics:
There is an annoying ad at the beginning, sorry!

The kit includes:

- 2 blendable primers – Nude Slip Dark & Nude Slip Light [the same shades in each kit]
- 3 flattering eye shadows – Antique Pewter, Twilight Ash & Cashmere Cream
- 1 defining eyeliner – Raven Black
- 1 contouring blush – Peach Glow
- 2 luscious lip shades – Plumberry & Cranberry Stain
- 1 My Glossy Lips lip gloss in Sheer [the same with each kit -- I like it a lot; one is now in my purse.]

Here’s my look today:
It is only the light from my camera that makes it look uneven.
Photobucket

Technique
Primer: I blended the two shades together, and the color exactly matched my eyelids. I have tried each color alone at other times. Then BE Queen Phyllis to lay a foundation.
Lids and drylined lower: Antique Pewter – this is a gorgeous brown — any amount of contouring was done by layering more of this color in the outer corners
Tightlined top and bottom: Black liner from palette, used very softly, so it looks almost gray.
Dry lined top center over pupil: Twilight Ash, this is sparkly and very black, similar to a MAC that I have, but very nice to have all in one place for this look. I wanted some definition, but wanted to stay natural.

Lips:
Sheer gloss on bottom lip, lightest color on top; smooshed; then rimmed and up the center with Beauté Allure gloss, a technique that plumps the lips.

Do you have this palette?
How do you like to wear it? Do you have a favorite of Lauren’s?

FOTD My Smokey Classics by Lauren Luke — Dramatic

Yesterday I posted my first application of My Smokey Classics, what I would call a normal, smokey look.

Today I wanted to go dramatic. I intentionally applied it as dark as I felt I wanted for a daytime look. Plus it’s fall, and I should be able to carry off more smokiness. I believe it would go even darker. You can see from the picture far below that it doesn’t look this dark full face, but it is dark!

- 1 contouring blush – Peach Glow
- 2 luscious lip shades – Plumberry & Cranberry Stain
- 1 My Glossy Lips lip gloss in Sheer [the same with each kit -- I like it a lot; one is now in my purse.]

Here’s my look today:
I had a lot of fun on Halloween. I went as a Flower Child/Hippie, but didn’t take any pictures. I basically copied the look of the video demonstration of Smokey Eyes with Cat Marnell. Surprisingly, I liked it on me, and didn’t feel it was way too over the top! For that look, because this palette had not arrived yet, I used a very dark Chanel shadow. I liked the look so well that I’m sure I will duplicate it more.

Today I modified the look, softening it a tad. I could have gone deeper with liner, but wanted to show that it could be toned down a bit. And I wanted to use only the items from this palette.

Technique
Primer: I blended the two shades together, and the color exactly matched my eyelids. I have tried each color alone at other times. Then BE Queen Phyllis to lay a foundation.
Lids: Antique Pewter – this is a gorgeous brown — heavily to ensure that Twilight Ash went on smoothly and to soften the look a bit for daytime
Whole lid and dry lined lower: Twilight Ash, this is sparkly and very black, similar to a MAC that I have, but very nice to have all in one place for this look
Crease: Antique Pewter, in the manner Cat used bronzer, and also a bit of Cashmere Cream (it’s a powder) under the brow and to soften the top edge
Tightlined: Black liner from palette.

FOTD AL eyes

Here’s a look from a couple of weeks ago:

This was such a fun look (and basically without cost) because I just used my finger to apply the glitters that had escaped from the sample bags — they are really too pretty to lose! I used a brush in the outer corners and to dryline. It’s rare for me to use my fingers with shadow, unless it is cream.

For ease of performance and beautiful colors, Aromaleigh cannot be beat.

Base: Nude Frost, then BE Queen Phyllis

Photobucket

This is a tad out of focus, but you can see how soft and pretty it was.

Photobucket

I keep all my Rocks! glam glitter samples together in a larger ziplock bag.
Lids: a mix of all the shades that escaped.
The outer corners and drylined: Planetearth

At this late date, I don’t really remember what other colors I used, only my eyes.

FOTD Review: My Smokey Classics by Lauren Luke

My Smokey Classics is a lovely palette. It actually is far prettier at home in good lighting and on my face, than I thought it was when I saw it in the store. (I had wanted to see these in person before I bought any. While in the store, I purchased My Sultry Blues, then ordered this one and My Fierce Violets online, taking advantage of F&F, all from Sephora.)

I was very pleased with how this turned out. Some dark colors are too dark for me, and almost impossible to blend as my skin is both light and easily hurt if too much blending is needed. But this worked perfectly, and the mid-tone shade of brown is just beautiful. The entire palette had looked dark to me in the store, but it is nicely vibrant when on.

This makes it look as if my shadows are uneven, but in RL they look perfect. It is the lighting from the camera. You can see how deep and smokey it is.
Photobucket

Primer: I blended the two shades together, and the color exactly matched my eyelids. I have tried each color alone at other times.
Lids: Antique Pewter – this is a gorgeous brown
Crease and dry lined: Twilight Ash, this is sparkly and very black, similar to a MAC that I have, but very nice to have all in one place for this look
Tightlined: Black liner from palette.

Photobucket

As you can see, the colors work very well together. I was surprised at how pretty the blush is, because it looked too deep for me in the palette. It was perfect on. Just the right balance to the eyes and lips. This is the lighter of the two lip colors, with the Sheer gloss on top. Later today I will show a LOTD with the other color.

Photobucket

Learning to work with her kits
Her kits are heavily pigmented, which I consider a good thing. Once you figure out how much to use, they are very easy to work with.

The easy coordination of colors: A complete look
I like that all the colors are together, for a complete look. And they really do work together, unlike many palettes offered by other companies that generally have some throw-away colors.

It is also easy to use other blush or lippies, so the kits have multiple uses.

Have you tried this palette? or any of her other palettes?
Do you have a favorite?

If you are looking for an easy smokey look, coordinated perfectly, this is for you. I rate it a 5 out of 5.

Review Arbonne Platinum Palette 3 looks

Arbonne’s Platinum palette, available for Holiday 2009, is very versatile. There are 4 shadow colors, all with some shimmer: off-white; pink; brown; purple-gray.

I wanted to try several color combinations over the last few days. Any of the colors could be used alone with or without liner. Or the light and darks could be used with each other or just the two light colors, as I did today.

The lip gloss is gorgeous with flashes of micro shimmer. I’m not able to show how pretty it is with my photos.

Monday
Purple-Gray on lid; Brown in Crease.

Wednesday
Off white on lid; pink in crease.
Used with Arbonne Slate pencil liner. This was exactly the right color to give definition without being dark like black would be.

This is used with Paris lipstick, not the gloss from the palette. Isn’t it a gorgeous color! I hesitated to buy it, as it isn’t something I normally wear, but I think it will be a favorite. I used a very small amount of Arbonne Naughty lip pencil to define the edge. It is darker than the lipstick, and I didn’t want to change the color.

FOTD Saturday Arbonne Platinum Palette

This is such a pretty palette! Arbonne offered it last Christmas and again this Christmas. It could easily be the only colors I took on a trip.

This is the first time I used it, and I wanted to try it alone, which I did, straight out of the set, (almost) nothing added.

There are many ways the shadows could be applied — for instance, using the Blue-Grey as the main color or as the liner.

Eye Colors: Shimmery almost-white; deep Blue-Gray; Brown [I used this to dryline]; Rosey-Apricot.
Blush: Peachy Apricot (I did use some NARS Riviera too)

Additional Colors
Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost, then BE Queen Phyllis
Tightlined: MAC Blackgraph

Brows: La Prairie pencil
Mascara: Maybelline Pulse Perfection

Primer: Smashbox
Foundation: Shiseido
cream

Lips:
The gloss included with this set is a beautiful bright almost orchid pink.

Do you have this set?
Of the two sets, I ordered only this one, but I think I might order the other too.

If you don’t have a consultant, but would like to get something in Arbonne, just ask and I’ll forward it on to Bookgirl.

You can compare this to my look today with Arbonne. One I tightlined with white; the other I tightlined with blackgraph. It’s hard to say which I prefer. They are just different.

Trish Face Essentials 10
— I’ve had this quad for a long time, but I’ve used it infrequently, because while I liked the idea of it, I didn’t like the execution. This set leans towards pink and is softer in tone than the other set I bought which leans towards apricot. The left most color is a brown-pink blush, but it can be used on the eyes. The other colors are beige, brown, and navy. Like the Arbonne sets for Smokey or Aubrey Eyes, the darkest color can be blended with the brown to deepen the depth.

Wetlined lower: MAC Fascinating (white)
Drylined: Navy from the Trish set
Tightlined lower: MAC blackgraph
Brows: La Prairie pencil
Mascara: Maybelline Pulse Perfection Blackest Black

I was happy with the way this turned out today. I think the MAC liners snapped it. I’ll definitely try this again.
