It's been hot, hot, hot here for a couple of weeks. Record breaking hot. But we are beginning to get some serious rains every day, so that is breaking the heat somewhat.

I'm not sure why, but red was calling to me, and I usually only wear red lipsticks in December. I even wore a matching red T. These pictures were taken a couple of days ago, and I don't remember precise colors any more. So I'm going to go with easy and post what I can and leave the rest to summer.

Eyes
I used my usual base. These colors are Bare Escentuals, which I really like a lot. They go on easy and don't bother my eyes. Clinique Mascara. La Prairie brows.

Red Lippie
No, I don't remember what shades I used, but I know I topped it with a MAC gloss. I've been wearing those a lot lately.

Face
This was Revlon ageless cream foundation. The rest as usual: cream rouge under my sparkly powder mix; Arbonne blush over the top of the powder.

Tuesday recap: This ranges from soft pink, through two browns, on to a very pretty deep blue-gray. It gives a soft smokey look.

Eyes:
Shadows: Maybelline 20 Velvet Crush
Mascara: Pulse Perfection
These colors aren't true: the top two and the left are more brown, with the lightest having some pink.

This picture shows how nice the mascara is.
Lips: Avon Beach Plum

Eyes:

Today I used the larger size medium blue on my lids; the small size deeper blue in the crease and outer corners; the sparkly blue-white over the pupil of my eye. I drylined with the deeper blues, then tightlined with the boot-black in the kit and used this in my waterline.

Lips:
I used the deeper of the two colors here, then followed with the lip gloss. I love the gloss. The color is very versatile, and it smells and tastes great.

My take:
I like the versatility of the set. There are different looks that you can accomplish. If I wanted to use the deeper shade over my lid, I could get a very deep smokey blue look. I give the set a 5.

My Sultry Blues is a lovely palette. I've used it for several days now, trying different combinations.

This set contains:
- 2 blendable primers - Nude Slip Dark & Nude Slip Light [the same in each set]
- 3 flattering eye colors - Continental, Sapphire Night & Star Dust
- 1 defining eyeliner - Raven Black
- 1 contouring blush - Wind Flush

Shadow primer
I thought the deeper shade would be too yellow on me, but it blends perfectly to match my skin tone. I suspect if your skin were more olive, it would pick up that and blend as perfectly. I might like it even better than the light, which surprises me.

Eyes:
I used the sparkly blue-white on my lids; the larger size medium blue in the crease; the small size deeper blue in the outer corners. I drylined with a combo of both deeper blues. Lined with the boot-black in the kit.

Liner:
It will be interesting to see if this dries out over time. I doubt it will, as there is no seal for it. It dries fast, no smudging.

Lips:
This really is a gorgeous color. I used the lighter of the two colors here (it is a bit shimmery), then followed with the lip gloss. I love the gloss. The color is very versatile, and it smells and tastes great.

My take: I give the set a 5.
I would definitely recommend this set. It is sophisticated, sultry. I like it as well as any Chanel or Dior set I've ever owned. I like the packaging: the flower on the outside. It makes me happy to use it.

I could easily throw this in a suitcase and go for a couple of weeks.

I wouldn't mind if the size of the container were downsided, so long as the product remained the same size. That would make it more convenient to carry. OTOH, I do not have to retouch at all. It stays perfect all day.

In the interest of simplifying makeup due to the heat and life getting in the way and making things simple just for me to see if I can... this is today's look -- besides school started today, and I'm back in the carpool mode.

I really would have trouble limiting makeup to 5 or 6 items, unless you don't count things like mascara... So I thought I would think of makeup as 5 parts, rather than 5 items, even though many can do double duty: foundation, cheek color, lipstick, eyes, and brows. And then count items with a bit of leeway. And see how fast I can do my look.

Eyes: Base, plus base shade of minerals, plus one color used on outer edges and to line. And Clinique mascara.
Face: Foundation -- Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse, also used as concealer under eyes. I also highlighted up the middle of my face with Chanel, just because I wanted to. The usual rouge and my powder mix and Arbonne blush.
Brows: La Prairie brow pencil.
Lip Gloss: MAC Rags to Riches

It took me about 7 minutes. I'll try to cut the time down tomorrow. If I knew what look I was going for, it would be faster than figuring out what colors to use in the moment. But I never know what I'm going to want to do facewise until the moment. How about you? Can you plan ahead? I even like to travel with enough choices that I don't get bored with my daily looks. I don't think I could take only 1 shade of eyeshadow!

Eyes:
Inner corner: AL Sylph en pointe
Outer corners: AL Waltz en pointe (looks green in ziplock, but looks bluish on)

Sylph: Add a touch of shimmering tiara glamour to any shade to add sparkly and shine... brilliant sparkling jewels in a white plush matte base.
Waltz: A soft pale green plush matte base with a mysterious blue-green highlight tone. Use wet or over base for more drama! (Sheen, slight shimmer)

The en pointe collection is very pretty, very soft, but it has more illumination than the plush shades which I tend to use more for base than for actual colors. I would normally reach for a deeper color, but the en pointe colors are very pretty.

I thought you might like to get an idea of the Mary Kay Fall 2010 Colors. (I bought the items shown.) This was a super easy makeup, though it took me longer to figure out what I wanted to do.

I have and have tried all the LE MK eye glimmer stick colors ($12 each) and I like them all. The blue shows up the most. There is also a soft purple and a soft green/beige. For a fast eye, these can't be beat.

Mary Kay eyes +
Base: MK light blue stick from a year or so ago. This has a wet and cooling effect when you put it on. [The one that was open dried out. The new one is still fresh. I'm keeping the little inside cap on it to keep it from drying out.]
Crease and under eye: MK Fall 2010 Drama (which is a deep, bright blue)
Under brow: MK apricot stick (which had really dried out and I filled the case with water yesterday to see if it would revive -- it did.)
Both the old and the new sticks are cooling and wet feeling. The new sticks do not have an inside cap.
Lined with Chanel pencil (upper and lower) and Sephora pencil (lower)
Stiletto Black Mascara

Lips:
Limited-Edition* Mary Kay® Vinyl Lip Shine in Audacious ($15) (red) on lower lip, smooshed with a clear glittery Lancome gloss on top. [This keeps both wands from getting another color on them.] [Yesterday I tried the color with another gloss. It will go from bright red into many other colors depending on what you put with it. It is very versatile.] There is also a plummy color.

Face:
Almay color change makeup in light and color change rouge in light pink. My sparkly powder mix on top.

Additionally there are two baked powders, each a swirl of colors, similar to what MAC is doing. ($18) and 3 nail polishes (deep purple, red, silver) ($8) and a combo base/top coat ($8).

There is also a new fragrance Thinking of You a floral oriental which is quite nice. $30 for 1 oz. I like the idea of gifting it to someone (you can write a message on the inside of the box.)

It's been a while since I've done a FOTD, just lazy I guess! This is one of my favorite color combinations. I keep the two shades together so I don't forget how nicely they go together. But I had forgotten how I had worn them the last time, because it had been a while. So today was just how it felt at the time.

Eyes: the usual mascara and brow
BE Primer, then Queen Phyllis for a smooth surface
Outer corners: AL lulu lustre
Inner corners and drylined lower: AL tanaquil lustre
Lined top and lower: Tidal Wavegel liner
Tightlined top and lower: MAC shade fluidline

Face:
Maybelline Matte Mousse # 1 -- I usually use # 3. In RL this does not look this light -- it looks too light when photographed. I used # 3 to contour my lower cheeks.
Highlight up the center: Revlon (new) (pink)
Chanel stick rouge
My sparkly mix of powder
Lancome Petticoat Pink Cream Blush

Lips: AL Pout with a bit of sparkle in the center
Just a simple lip, but such a pretty color, neutral, but with a touch of pink.

Wow! I really had fun with this one! Sometimes serendipity really comes through for you. Still working through all the samples I purchased. It's fun to have enough that I just put the colors on the counter and pick 2 or 3 I haven't used yet that I think will go together. Serenade pulls more blue/violet on me than teal (how it looks in the ziplock) , at least when used with Coppelia.

How to place the lid colors
First, I couldn't decide which color to place on my inner and outer lids. So, I thought, why not do both? I figured it might be fun, and today wouldn't matter. Surprisingly enough, it is not weird, it is beautiful. I didn't really like the first eye, but when I did the second, it was just super. I have never done this before, but I might do it really often!

Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost + BE Queen Phyllis
Alternating inner and outer lids: AL serenade + AL coppelia en pointe
Drylined lower: AL serenade

Serenade: A color inspired by my favorite ballet. Beautiful smooth teal plush matte base with a lush violet iridescent highlight. (Sheen)
Coppelia: A lovely berried plum plush matte base with a dimensional smooth violet highlight. (Sheen)

Mascara: Sapphire Cover Girl
Lashes: Witches Charm Temptress Tentatrice Black with Red tinsel! I bought these one Halloween, might be two years ago from Walgreens or CVS. They have quite an array offered online still, and they aren't terribly expensive. These came with top and bottom lashes. update: I used them as upper lashes the next day.

No blush, only Chanel stick rouge under my sparkly mix of powder, over one of my usual primers (Smashbox purple today) and foundations.

Lips: MAC Love Alert + Arbonne Delicious, both glosses, one on each lip, smooshed

Still trying sample colors I bought. Both shadow colors are gorgeous today! In my new colors I couldn't find a green that looked compatible with my shirt, so I thought I would go with a color that had as much depth.

This was a simple look. Sometimes you have to know when to quit. I could have done more liner, etc. but why when this looked perfect as-is.

Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost + BE Queen Phyllis
Inner lids: AL Air and Light les papillons
Outer lids and drylined lower: AL Flutura's Cloud les papillions
Mascara: Cover Girl Sapphire Eyelights

Air & Light: A silvery white with highlights and sparks of every shade of the rainbow. Full of delightful dimension and interference shimmer, this shade passes into the ether. [no d&c dye in this one]

Flutura's Cloud: A brilliant blue of exceptional vibrancy and depth. Metallic heart with intense blue frost and sparks of blue, red and gold. This shade was inspired by the amazing color of the Blue Morpho Butterfly.

Blush: AL Dolly
Highlight: Mary Kay up the center of my face, over foundation, Chanel stick rouge and my sparkly powder mix

Lips: Arbonne Bubblegum over whatever was left of some gloss, topped with Lauren Luke gloss -- Chose this color as much for the depth of it as the color.
