I first read about The Multiple about a year ago. An Asian MUA wrote in her blog that this was her favorite go-to product. That she used it on eyes-cheeks-lips-bronzer-etc. It piqued my curiosity. No one sells Nars locally so I tend to be less familiar with the line. I put it on my list for when I was out of town. Then I never remembered until more recently.
When I first looked at it, her color was too strong for me, so I hesitated to buy. It took a second trip before I felt I knew which color I might like to try. For $37, I didn’t want to make a mistake!
Nars The Multiple
The Multiple is the original all-in-one, cream-to-powder, multi-purpose makeup stick. With fingertip application, The Multiple highlights, sculpts, and warms eyes, cheeks, lips, and body in an array of shades from sheer accents to mauve and bronze. Sephora
The Back Story
In 1996 Harper’s Bazaar did a story featuring six of the top makeup artists of the time. The direction for each was to pick their favorite model, pick their favorite look and the magazine would credit every product used.
Carolyn Murphy was the choice of François Nars. François was inspired to showcase beautiful, translucent looking skin – a departure from the heavily matted skin in fashion at the time. François choose to use a single lipstick on eyes, cheeks and lips to add a touch of color and a healthy glow. Nothing else was added.
NARS was credited with exactly the one product. The caption read: “NARS Brown Out – Tangier Lipstick on eyes, face and lips”
Soon customers started buying lipstick for eyes, face and lips to re-create the beautiful skin they’d seen in Harper’s Bazaar, but we all know that lipstick is not the best for face and eyes. This led François to create a universal texture – The Multiple was born. A revolutionary stick for the entire face in a cream-to-powder formula that was oil-free. You can see the picture online at Nars.
I’ve used this for my cheeks before, but had not tried it for lips until today.
The texture
I felt it started out creamier in the container. The top feels drier, more powdery now, I think — I’ll have to check it out at a counter — but it still works fine. If it continues to dry, it might not work as well.
If you use this, what is your texture like?
It felt a little dry on my lips until I used gloss in the center.
My take: Cheeks
I like it for rouge (under my powder) and also as blush (over the powder.) Eyes I haven’t tried it on my eyes yet. Maybe tomorrow. Picture will follow, if I do. Bronzer I’m sure it would work well. I think my color, Riviera, is more suited as blush. My finished lip I thought it was soft and pretty.
Using Beauté technique
See more about the technique here. See other pictures of the lippie here. Lips: Nars Riviera, on entire lip MAC Kitty Power glitter eyeliner, used to rim. This is a gorgeous shade, very pretty on the lips. I’ve used it less so far on my eyes. NYX Chandelier in center. This is a pretty orchid pink shade.
Have you tried The Multiple?
What is your favorite color? Do you tend to use it for only one thing or do you use it in multiple ways?
Karin
5 for concept — I like the idea of getting multiple uses. I’ll probably take it if I travel.
$$$ a little pricey
5 for Riviera; I like it a lot. If you choose a color that is right for you, you’d likely feel the same.

My finished lip I thought it was soft and pretty.
What I like about the Beauté technique It’s easy. Subtle
It gives a softer and fresher take on lippies than a lip pencil does. Camouflages
It camouflages the little outer edge lip lines better than a pencil does. Volumizes
It actually works to make the lips more voluminous. Youthens
Isn’t this a great word! I saw this somewhere online yesterday and thought I’d start using it.

The Audrey Eye look is one of two sets that Arbonne has put together. It’s important to see these looks in RL compared to the catalog or as individual colors. As nice as they are individually, they are really superb when used together.
The first time I saw the Audrey Eye look in RL in the travel palette box, I thought the colors were amazing and couldn’t wait to try them on. I resolved they would be in my next order.
Then when I saw the look on Shari, I realized that it was gorgeous, neutral, and rich looking. And would go with everything.
She had filled her palette box with the additional recommended blushes: Promise (I have that one, it is softly pink, and I use it almost daily) and Savvy (softly apricot which was a good color for me also, and one I didn’t have yet) and shadows (these are fairly new colors): Illume (shimmery white) and Mystery (very dark black.) I could tell immediately by looking at it that the colors were right together.
I have trouble choosing across the color range to put together a look like this myself, so it is better that it is done for me. Arbonne has 12 shades of brown, ranging from light to dark, and encompassing warms, cools and neutrals, so you can imagine that it might not be easy for me, especially with brown eyes.
Here’s what Arbonne says about their shadows:
… pressed eye shadow in a range of 34 moisturizing shades that won’t flake or smudge
and this is really important when dealing with a dark color like Mystery.
Mascara: Arbonne, 2 in 1
Brows: La Prairie pencil Tightlined both top and lower, then smudged with MAC smudge brush: MAC graphblack, then along lower also earthline
Primer: Smashbox with dermaxl (it looks sort of apricot)
Foundation: Prescriptives Photochrome Cool Rose
Rouge under powder: Chanel stick
Powder: Guerlain meteorites
Blush: NARs Riviera
Lips: Arbonne Illusion (beautiful golden light bronze which I felt I could use to lighten and highlight) + Razzberry I was aiming for a blue-red, since they show this look with red. I think it leaned more to the pink side, but still very pretty color.
You can see my poor nose here, and what happens when I put product on it. I think it was the MAC concealer, but this didn’t bother me the first couple of times I used it, so when it disappears, I will try it again carefully!
What do you think?
Next up, the second look: Arbonne Smoky Eyes.
If you’d like to order any of these Arbonne products and do not have a consultant, Book Girl would be happy to help you.

Today I was doing some more organizing — putting all my magenta-type lippies in one place and putting my Meow samples by colors. Then I marked them all by their descriptions. I have a disproportionate number of Meow purples and lavenders, though I like to wear those colors. I did have 2 grays and one taupe (which looked green in the ziplock.) That’s how I saw and decided what colors to wear. I started with the lipstick, knowing I wanted to wear that again, plus the enhancer I beaded for my daughter’s newest bright green pendant (I’m wearing it). Then I saw the Meow colors and knew I was hooked for today.
Eyes: all Meow except where noted, in the order of application Crease: Taupe — this looked green in the bag; looks taupe on, though it pulls some lavender in the pictures — I didn’t put any lavender into it except possibly at the lowest point of the crease Inner corners: Misdemeanor VandalEyes — citrus green with gold — love this green! Outer corners: Jessica R ScandalEyes grape
This is sort of the look I get when I do my mascara, as I tilt my head back and look in a hand held mirror to do the top lashes. Only this picture was taken when totally finished. You can see the gradience of the colors.
Mascara: top, Guerlain; lower:Tarte Brows: Merle Norman powder Lined lower: Mary Kay Tahitian Gold (love this color!) Tight lined top and wetlined lower: Venomous gel liner (the purple that BookGirl liked so well) Drylined top: Tongue Tied IdealEyes Deep Smoky Plum
No concealer
Sunscreen Neutragena, on face; La Prairie, on my neck Primer: Avon Magix Foundation: Chanel, discontinued
No highlighting
Rouge (under my sparkly powder mix) Maybelline Rose Petal Mousse
Blush (over) NARS Riviera stick
Lips: Beauticontrol Perfect Azalea topped with BE Buxom Dominique gloss (clear with white, light blue and silver micro shimmer) — BookGirl likes this — I used to wear it a lot.
What I think
When I compare this to yesterday’s look, I like the teal greens (better?) but I do like this look and will wear it again. If I don’t compare it, I think, good look! Plus I’ve had several compliments on the lippie, which I need to begin to wear more often again. It’s one of their older colors when they color coordinated everything to your season, not that I could wear all the colors that were supposedly mine.

Eyes:
Lids: NARS Riviera I wanted to see how this did on my eyes because it is marketed for eyes, lips, cheeks, an all over product. I’ve not used it for my lips yet. Crease: Prescriptives 04 gray cream, Outer corners: Mary Kay Silver Shiver, waterproof cream Over lids: Trish McEvoy sparkly opalish pressed glitter shadow
Gel Liner
I wanted to see if the same technique I’ve been using with Black Cherry gel liner would work with the other colors I have. Again, I used the back end of the shadow brush for most of it. Top tight lined: Peacock gel liner Lower water lined: Tidal Wave gel liner
Brows: Merle Norman powder Mascara: upper, Guerlain; lower, Tarte
Sunscreen: La Prairie Primer: Avon Magix Foundation, Glow, Blush: L’Oreal minerals — this time for foundation I used the L’oreal brush dipped into the top of the bottom container — the bad thing about that is if you need more product, you have the screw the brush back on in order to tip it upside down to get more product into the top.
Powder: no extra today More blush: NARS Riviera on cheek bones

Sorry that I’m late getting this posted! Yesterday was a busy day!
Eyes: Fyrinnae Fujiro in crease; Optimism on lid Gorgeous colors!
I wanted to try Fyrinnae again before I forgot how to apply it (pat, not swipe.) (Make sure brush has no black left in it, which I remembered to check.) (I have brushes dedicated to light or dark colors, so I don’t have to worry about getting a dark shade mixed in with a light one.) You can see they are not exact matches. It drives me nuts trying to get them even. I finally gave up. I figured, no one looks at my eyes that closely, as I am blinking vs. letting someone really look at them. LOL!

I had fun with this today, and I’m happy with how it turned out. I wanted to see how easy it would be to use Fyrinnae with other brands — and I still have a couple of colors to try out. For my initial order, I ordered the exotic colors I knew I could wear that are different from other lines. But consequently, I don’t have any subtle lid shades yet (they are coming in my second order.)
Base: Nude Frost Lids up through crease: AL Imperial Opulent Lustre, gorgeous light purple Outer corners, blended up and out and lower line: F Archmage Arcane Magic Mascara top: Diorshow Not sure I’m crazy about it. Mascara lower: Stiletto Tightlined upper NYX Extreme Black pen — I wanted to know if I could tightline with it. I should have done it before mascara and maybe before the shadows. I felt I took some of the shadow off, but you couldn’t tell that I had.
Here’s what Fyrinnae says about this color:
Deep green with a lighter shimmer that changes from pale green to silver to pink, depending on the light. It’s much more green and less dark grey than it looks here.
It looks green in the jar, but as I applied it, it looked deep purple. You can see from the pictures, it is quite green, though. Arcane Magic colors have two looks to them, whether applied wet or dry, and look different in different lights. Pardon the slight drift on my nose. I took care of it when I saw it in the picture.

Eyes: BE Rocker Star — great colors and a wonderful brush, the one end does narrow lining
Medium Shade in crease; Darker sparklier shade in outer corners; Dry Lined with darkest black on top. Inner eyes: flash of bright color from NYX Purple Shadow Lined bottom: MAC graphblack in waterline; earthline just below it Lined topNYX Jet Black pen liner — probably should have bought extreme black.
