How about that! L'Oreal ad banned in Britain for being dishonest.

I've wondered when they would stop showing mascara ads where the model, for sure, for sure, for sure, is wearing false lashes. Honestly! They expect us to believe it?! OTOH, I know what mascara can do -- I don't need the ad pumped up with false lashes. I wouldn't mind seeing with and without the mascara though. Some mascaras are thicker than others; some have tiny fibers to extend the lashes, etc. Everyone who wears mascara has their favorite 2 or 3 (or 5.) Different ones for different occasions or different feelings for the day -- or different activities for the day.

What do you think?
I know many products do deliver. They also have the disclaimer, "Not all results are typical" or some such. But some products are more hype than not. Of course, they would make the biggest difference on someone who has not taken care of their skin.

And they make the biggest difference if they are designed for your skin in mind. For me, nothing for oily skin. For someone with oily skin, nothing for dry skin. And after a while some products for mature skin are better than not for skin that looks like it needs a boost.

Cudos for Britain to have the chutzpah to actually do something about false advertising! It's about time!

I felt like wearing turquoise on my eyes today, and outside of the Summer set by Mary Kay, my go-to for turquoise is Aromaleigh. Kristen has beautiful shades of greens, turquoises and teals, and I probably have most of them, at least in sample sizes, which are quite long lasting. They are vibrant and beautiful, if you are on a quest for this color.

I also felt like doing a 5 min makeup today, which I did. The only reason it took longer is because I kept thinking of things I wanted to take pictures of, such as the Chanel container and my powder. So I would digress to that. Aromaleigh is really fool proof. Easy to apply; always looks great and lasts all day. I knew I could do a 5 min makeup with AL. And I had a busy, busy day today, meetings, errands, music lesson, pick and delivery to school and more.

In all honesty, there were two things I meant to do and got sidetracked: concealer, and some of the new Arbonne white shadow in the inner corners of my eyes. That would have taken 30 sec. I just forgot.

Eyes: all Aromaleigh, except where noted
Base: Nude Frost, then BE Queen Phyllis
Lids: Azure
Drylined Top: Aqua Nightmare (love this color!)
Drylined bottom: Caribe, just a touch more blue
Mascara: Stiletto
Tightlined top: NYX pen black
Brows: Merle Norman powder

Primer: Avon Magix
Foundation: L'Oreal True Match, N1 Soft Ivory While it looks like this foundation covers well, when applying it, I'm a little disappointed in how sheer it looks in the pictures. I like my skin to show through, but I like it a little less sheer. I will likely use this more as a highlighter in the future, if I try it again, and it is equally sheer.
Rouge under my sparkly mix of powder: Chanel stick
Blush over: Arbonne Promise
Hightlight: Arbonne Bashful lightest blush

Lips: CG 912+928 + Stila Silver Mix
First: Guerlain liplift primer and conditioner and all round magic product
912 and 928 are plumping colors
1/2 and 1/2 each color, one on each lip, smooshed; then Stila-Silver Mix gloss when some of the lippie was gone to refresh it...this lipstick (928) is the one that hurt my lips after using it exclusively for months. After using every lip balm known to man and still having problems wearing anything on my lips, I remembered I had the Liplift. It fixed the problem with one application. I now have one in my purse and in the bathroom. And I made sure I used it before these colors. I never felt the product sting my lips. 912 is a particularly pretty soft shade. Perhaps tomorrow I'll show it alone.

Recently one of the magazines that I subscribe to had a sample of L'Oreal Studio Secrets Face Primer in a foil pillow on a postcard/coupon within the magazine.

This was my first awareness of the product. I thought it afforded a perfect opportunity to try it, as I like primers and have several.

It only takes a little
I used it the last two days, and there is still some left in the small sample, because it takes very little.

What's it like?
This is a little bit like Spackle for your face, because it has a thicker consistency than some primers. To me, it's a bit like a cross between Clarins (which I love) and Avon's (which I also love.)

How does it work?
It fills in small surface lines like magic, and gives a smooth surface for applying your foundation.

Does it feel heavy?
While it is thicker, it doesn't seem to be heavy on your face.

Is this for normal or oily skin, or both?
I know it works well with normal to dry skin, because that is my skin type. I don't know if it would work as well if your skin were oily. I did see one review where the person had a tendency to acne and a T zone, and it worked fine for her.

What about the price?
You can't beat the price for a jar.

My take
This would be a good one to try if you've never tried a primer. it works as good as any I've used, no matter the price.

Still having fun using some of my Dior quint sets. It's been a long time since I've used them.

This one has peach, gray, medium blue, light blue, and pink/orchid/magenta in the center. There are lots of ways to use it -- perhaps using the top two colors -- peach and gray. Or the bottom two: light and medium blue, using some gray in the crease. Or gray and magenta.

Today, I used the whole quint to get a feel for the colors again. It's surprising how purple the blues pull. The peach is very pretty.

Lid: peach
Crease: gray, then medium blue
Outer Corners: a bit of medium blue, then light blue
Drylined top and lower: magenta
Mascara: Stiletto, top; Tarte, lower
Brows: whatever was left from yesterday
Concealer: Arbonne

I'm still not sure if I'm crazy about mineral foundation or not. It's supposed to be easier so I'm earmarking it for weekends. It's also possible I don't know how to apply it sheer enough (I like a sheer coverage.) It isn't necessarily faster for me, nor do I particularly like the look better. I do like the color.

Primer: AL
Foundation: Lancome minerals (love their brush!!)
Powder: Lancome minerals
Highlight: L'Oreal Pinkglow
Blush: Lancome Pink Pool (has some sparkle)

Lips: whatever was left on the lip brush from the last time I used it (remember I dedicated one brush to the rims and one brush to the lips), then rimmed and up the center with Stila silkshimmer (kind of a peachy sparkle) (love the gloss, btw!)

I've been wearing L'Oreal's Magic Smooth Souffle Foundation (color 512) (Classic Ivory) for a few days.

It takes very little to cover.
The first day I applied it, I had too much on my fingers (and I hadn't thought I had taken much.) Less is more! Try less, then layer up, if need be. It must have some sort of 'cone in it, because it is very silky and feels similar to some of the foundation primers that I have tried, but with color.

Comparing it other brands and the look I like
After the first day I've been comparing it on one side of my face to other foundations that I have on the other side. It comes up with the best of them. Perhaps the closest is CoverGirl and Olay Simply Ageless (I wear color 210.) Magic Smooth may have a little less illumination. It is basically a filler (hence the name 'smooth') whereas the CoverGirl is more of a traditional cream foundation with moisturizer and illumination.

It gives me the option of two different looks and feels.

I have also worn the Magic Smooth on the outer areas of my face and worn the CG on the T-zone, since I am not oily, to give illumination.

As for the two colors, there is a bit more pink in CG 210. Magic Smooth 510 is a neutral beige, but has no discernible yellow in it.

I like them both, so I just tend to alternate now, depending on my mood.

Have you tried either of them?
It's a keeper. I rate it 4 out of 4*.

It's been a long time since I've worn a L'Oreal lipstick. Colour Riche have a very nice, moisturizing feel and are long lasting. Of course, L'Oreal is a French line, so we should expect them to be good. BTW, L'Oreal owns Lancome, among others, some of which are quite expensive.

Organza 863 Made for Me Natural Lip Color $8.99
This is an especially pretty neutral. In RL it is quite glimmery, with a pink hue laid over the neutral-brown. It is almost a very light, soft red.

Here's where I began:

Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost
Lids on both eyes: AL Lagoon (matte) in new shape
Left Lid: AL Lilypad satin petals frost added
I love Lagoon, but I didn't put a lighter color under today, so it was a bit uneven. And I didn't want straight matte. Adding the lilypad gave it a lustre and conversely both softened and deepened the tone.

Here's my finished look:
Lined: top MK Bahama Blue; lower: Sephora Flashy Green
Mascara: Arbonne (both kinds) -- I've heard of a new technique. Using two kinds of mascara, one that lengthens and one that thickens. That makes more sense to me than two coats of mascara, which I never do (with the exception of using the clear Arbonne coat that comes with the 2 step mascara.) This is the first time I've tried it. The 2 step seems to thicken; the other to lengthen (which I did first.)
Brows: Anastasia Caramel wand
Concealer: Dior Skinflash
Nose: Mac Concealer, blended with triangle sponge -- the sponge works so much better than my fingers which only leaves me with polka dots.

I am really happy with the way this turned out. I love the eyeshadow color.

Remember when you do shadow that no one sees the shadow in still life the way these photos show. Your eyes are always in motion. What might look uneven in the pictures does not look that way in RL.

I like the colors on the eyes placed like this, rather than placing the brown in the crease. It's a brighter look. I can hardly see the brown in the inner corners and I went over it more than once. I was afraid it would be too dark there, but it isn't.

Do you like to wear mineral makeup? For the most part, I do not wear mineral foundation, I prefer a liquid. I don't find the liquid mineral foundations to be as good in their color range, or any better, than a normal liquid foundation.

I started with Bare Essentials. They don't have a good color match for my skin, so I pretty much only use their shadows or blush. I also like their all over face radiance in Clear. Their brushes are excellent. You can buy BE at stand-alone stores, in some Nordstroms, online at their website, and also in Sephora.

Recently I decided to try Aromaleigh on the basis of recommendations I'd seen online. Their products are excellent. They are as good, or better, than any I've tried with a very wide color range of shadows. They are beautiful on. They also have good sales and discount coupons that you can use with most orders, depending on the size. They have an excellent fact sheet. And they also have a sheet that matches BE colors of foundation to their own. I found a good color match to my skin, and I'm using it on my neck. I still prefer liquid foundation on my face. I also found a lighter color that I've mixed in successfully to some other colors of other brands that didn't match, so perhaps I can use these up on my neck also. They have an excellent sample program. I will write more about the colors I tried in another post.

I've tried L'Oreal mineral makeup. They matched my skin better than BE, but not as well as Aromaleigh. Mixing it in with the lighter Aromaleigh, I think I can use it on my neck. I liked the idea of the brush in the top, but I thought it would filter through the brush vs. needing to dip the brush in product. The brush for their Illuminator is similar to the BE brush, but it is connected to the cap. I like some of their blush colors.

Jane has some mineral makeup. I've only tried a couple of shadows and blushes. I bought strictly on color.

Mary Kay recently came out with minerals. I think they are excellent. They are pressed, so they are easy to use and take with you, and they have a good color range. Their foundation was a better match for me than BE. I like their blushes and their shadows (I prefer the ones that shimmer.) I really like their highlighter (I use both the matte and the shimmer together.) They have a really nice bronzer, again matte and shimmer. I use the highlighter instead. Either the highlighter or the bronzer can be used on your eyes.

How about you, have you tried minerals and do you like them? As soon as I can, I will write up a review of the Aromaleigh colors that I've sampled.
