FOTD AL Moth Dragon Elegie + MAC and VS lips

I saw Collection 2000 (Hustle) glitter gel liner in a Lauren Luke video, and it inspired me to break out the glitter gel liners I have. For the most part, I haven’t liked them as well as dry glitter in the past, because the glitter doesn’t suspend equally so it goes on uneven, but I thought I’d give them a try again. Hustle is a gorgeous color on, and as near as I can figure, it is not available in the US. Collection 2000 is very reasonably priced. I did not try to dupe the colors Lauren used, which were brighter than these. I might do that tomorrow.

Still working through the samples I purchased.

Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost + BE Queen Phyllis
Outer lids: AL Moth
l’orchidee
Inner lids: AL Dragon l’orchidee
Drylined upper and lower: AL Elegie en pointe

Mascara: Icing by Claire duo: violet + silver glitter mascara too
Tight Lined upper and lower: combination of glitter gels from Milano duo mascaras (turquoise; blue; white)+ used Claire glitter mascara as a gel liner too
Photobucket

Moth: Pale and delicate iridescent tones appear softly grey, always changing.
Dragon: Fascinating green, muted in tone but with a smoked base and pearl luster.
Elegie: A dark dose of shimmering jewels. Add to other shades to deepen and dramatize, use wet-lined or all-over for a magnificent, glimmering smokey eye.

Lips:
MAC Funtabulous
(orchid dazzle gloss)+ Victoria Secret Roxie gloss (bright pink with purple/blue micro glitter)

Funtabulous: Purple with violet pearl

FOTD Aromaleigh + Arbonne lips + Lauren Luke gloss

Still trying sample colors I bought. Both shadow colors are gorgeous today! In my new colors I couldn’t find a green that looked compatible with my shirt, so I thought I would go with a color that had as much depth.

This was a simple look. Sometimes you have to know when to quit. I could have done more liner, etc. but why when this looked perfect as-is.

Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost + BE Queen Phyllis
Inner lids: AL Air and Light
les papillons
Outer lids and drylined lower: AL Flutura’s Cloud les papillions
Mascara: Cover Girl Sapphire Eyelights

Air & Light: A silvery white with highlights and sparks of every shade of the rainbow. Full of delightful dimension and interference shimmer, this shade passes into the ether. [no d&c dye in this one]

Flutura’s Cloud: A brilliant blue of exceptional vibrancy and depth. Metallic heart with intense blue frost and sparks of blue, red and gold. This shade was inspired by the amazing color of the Blue Morpho Butterfly.

Blush: AL Dolly
Highlight: Mary Kay
up the center of my face, over foundation, Chanel stick rouge and my sparkly powder mix

FOTD More My Fierce Violets by Lauren Luke

OK, seriously, Lauren Luke’s palettes are terrific. I had worked with this palette before, decided to do it again, then didn’t have time to post it and thought, gee, I’ve already done this, but looking at it today, I think it is quite spectacular.

You can buy this set at Sephora for $37.

Here is Lauren Luke applying My Fierce Violets:

The kit includes:

- 2 blendable primers – Nude Slip Dark & Nude Slip Light [the same shades in each kit]
- 3 flattering eye colors – Crushed Lilac, Turkish Night & Porcelain Dust
- 1 defining eyeliner – Raven Black [the same in each kit]
- 1 contouring blush – Sepia Rose
- 2 luscious lip shades – Sheer Berry & Cherry Whip
- 1 My Glossy Lips lip gloss in Sheer [the same with each kit -- I like it a lot; one is now in my purse.]

This was my look Sunday November 8, 2009:

The only problem I have
Sometimes I get some creasing of the shadows by day’s end. It is worth working with the palette until I figure out the right combo for my lids because the colors are so beautiful.

FOTD My Smokey Classics by Lauren Luke — Natural Look

Yesterday I posted a dramatic look of My Smokey Classics. Today I wanted to do a very natural look, using mostly the wonderful taupey brown in it.

I intentionally applied it as natural as I wanted.

Photobucket

You can buy this set at Sephora for $37.

Here is Lauren Luke applying My Smokey Classics:
There is an annoying ad at the beginning, sorry!

The kit includes:

- 2 blendable primers – Nude Slip Dark & Nude Slip Light [the same shades in each kit]
- 3 flattering eye shadows – Antique Pewter, Twilight Ash & Cashmere Cream
- 1 defining eyeliner – Raven Black
- 1 contouring blush – Peach Glow
- 2 luscious lip shades – Plumberry & Cranberry Stain
- 1 My Glossy Lips lip gloss in Sheer [the same with each kit -- I like it a lot; one is now in my purse.]

Here’s my look today:
It is only the light from my camera that makes it look uneven.
Photobucket

Technique
Primer: I blended the two shades together, and the color exactly matched my eyelids. I have tried each color alone at other times. Then BE Queen Phyllis to lay a foundation.
Lids and drylined lower: Antique Pewter – this is a gorgeous brown — any amount of contouring was done by layering more of this color in the outer corners
Tightlined top and bottom: Black liner from palette, used very softly, so it looks almost gray.
Dry lined top center over pupil: Twilight Ash, this is sparkly and very black, similar to a MAC that I have, but very nice to have all in one place for this look. I wanted some definition, but wanted to stay natural.

Lips:
Sheer gloss on bottom lip, lightest color on top; smooshed; then rimmed and up the center with Beauté Allure gloss, a technique that plumps the lips.

Do you have this palette?
How do you like to wear it? Do you have a favorite of Lauren’s?

FOTD My Smokey Classics by Lauren Luke — Dramatic

Yesterday I posted my first application of My Smokey Classics, what I would call a normal, smokey look.

Today I wanted to go dramatic. I intentionally applied it as dark as I felt I wanted for a daytime look. Plus it’s fall, and I should be able to carry off more smokiness. I believe it would go even darker. You can see from the picture far below that it doesn’t look this dark full face, but it is dark!

I had a lot of fun on Halloween. I went as a Flower Child/Hippie, but didn’t take any pictures. I basically copied the look of the video demonstration of Smokey Eyes with Cat Marnell. Surprisingly, I liked it on me, and didn’t feel it was way too over the top! For that look, because this palette had not arrived yet, I used a very dark Chanel shadow. I liked the look so well that I’m sure I will duplicate it more.

Today I modified the look, softening it a tad. I could have gone deeper with liner, but wanted to show that it could be toned down a bit. And I wanted to use only the items from this palette.

Technique
Primer: I blended the two shades together, and the color exactly matched my eyelids. I have tried each color alone at other times. Then BE Queen Phyllis to lay a foundation.
Lids: Antique Pewter – this is a gorgeous brown — heavily to ensure that Twilight Ash went on smoothly and to soften the look a bit for daytime
Whole lid and dry lined lower: Twilight Ash, this is sparkly and very black, similar to a MAC that I have, but very nice to have all in one place for this look
Crease: Antique Pewter, in the manner Cat used bronzer, and also a bit of Cashmere Cream (it’s a powder) under the brow and to soften the top edge
Tightlined: Black liner from palette.

FOTD Review: My Smokey Classics by Lauren Luke

My Smokey Classics is a lovely palette. It actually is far prettier at home in good lighting and on my face, than I thought it was when I saw it in the store. (I had wanted to see these in person before I bought any. While in the store, I purchased My Sultry Blues, then ordered this one and My Fierce Violets online, taking advantage of F&F, all from Sephora.)

I was very pleased with how this turned out. Some dark colors are too dark for me, and almost impossible to blend as my skin is both light and easily hurt if too much blending is needed. But this worked perfectly, and the mid-tone shade of brown is just beautiful. The entire palette had looked dark to me in the store, but it is nicely vibrant when on.

This makes it look as if my shadows are uneven, but in RL they look perfect. It is the lighting from the camera. You can see how deep and smokey it is.
Photobucket

Primer: I blended the two shades together, and the color exactly matched my eyelids. I have tried each color alone at other times.
Lids: Antique Pewter – this is a gorgeous brown
Crease and dry lined: Twilight Ash, this is sparkly and very black, similar to a MAC that I have, but very nice to have all in one place for this look
Tightlined: Black liner from palette.

Photobucket

As you can see, the colors work very well together. I was surprised at how pretty the blush is, because it looked too deep for me in the palette. It was perfect on. Just the right balance to the eyes and lips. This is the lighter of the two lip colors, with the Sheer gloss on top. Later today I will show a LOTD with the other color.

Photobucket

Learning to work with her kits
Her kits are heavily pigmented, which I consider a good thing. Once you figure out how much to use, they are very easy to work with.

The easy coordination of colors: A complete look
I like that all the colors are together, for a complete look. And they really do work together, unlike many palettes offered by other companies that generally have some throw-away colors.

It is also easy to use other blush or lippies, so the kits have multiple uses.

Have you tried this palette? or any of her other palettes?
Do you have a favorite?

If you are looking for an easy smokey look, coordinated perfectly, this is for you. I rate it a 5 out of 5.

FOTD Review: My Fierce Violets by Lauren Luke

I haven’t posted a FOTD lately, but it’s not that I haven’t taken some pictures. I’ll try to be better!

You can buy this set at Sephora for $37. I took advantage of the F&F sale to pick up two more of Lauren Luke’s kits because I like My Sultry Blues so well (see below for those posts) — My Fierce Violets and My Smokey Classics.

I’ve tried this look on two days.
Here’s my look today:
Primer: I blended the two shades together, and the color exactly matched my eyelids. I have tried each color alone at other times.
Lids: Lightest purple
Crease and dry lined: Deepest Purple
Tightlined: Black liner from palette.

Photobucket

LOTD: This is how my lips looked two days ago.
I think I forgot the gloss both days! I really like the gloss, so I have to put it with the palettes. You can see that it’s a little lighter than it was today. Both days I applied the lighter shimmery shade in the middle of both lips, and the deeper shade on the outer corners.
Photobucket

I like
Her kits are heavily pigmented
It takes me a couple of days to figure out how much of each shade to use, because the colors are heavily pigmented. That’s good. I like pigment!

The deepest violet shade is sparked with copper and is similar to a shade (Garnet Plum) I love from Aura Science, but the AS shade has the spark only on the top layer (just as the Milani ones do that I bought not too long ago.) It doesn’t seem right to get your interest under false premises. Lauren Luke’s looks like the spark goes all the way through.

The easy coordination of colors: A complete look
I like that all the colors that go together are together, for a complete look. I also feel it is easy to use other blush or lippies, so the kits are usuable in many ways.

Have you tried this palette? or any of her other palettes?
Do you have a favorite?

FOTD Review: Lauren Luke Panacea81 My Sultry Blues Look 3

You can read more about Lauren Luke aka panacea81 here.

You can see her applying this set here:

This set contains:
- 2 blendable primers – Nude Slip Dark & Nude Slip Light [the same in each set]
- 3 flattering eye colors – Continental, Sapphire Night & Star Dust
- 1 defining eyeliner – Raven Black [this can be used strongly or lightly]
- 1 contouring blush – Wind Flush
- 2 luscious lip shades – Diamond Berry & Snow Berry
- 1 My Glossy Lips lip gloss in Sheer [the same in each set, a sort of mauvey clear]

Eyes:
Photobucket

This time I used the deepest contour blue over my lid and to dryline the bottom; used largest size of blue in crease and over lid; used highlight blue over pupil and under brow; tightlined lightly with Raven Black.

Photobucket

Lips:
I used the deeper of the two colors on the outer corners here, then the lighter shimmery color in the middle, followed with the lip gloss. I love the gloss. The color is very versatile, and it smells and tastes great.

Photobucket

Photobucket

My take: These blues are really gorgeous.
I like the versatility of the set. There are different looks that you can accomplish from having a light, sparkly lid as I did the first day to deepest lid as today. I give the set a 5.

Eyes:
Photobucket

Today I used the larger size medium blue on my lids; the small size deeper blue in the crease and outer corners; the sparkly blue-white over the pupil of my eye. I drylined with the deeper blues, then tightlined with the boot-black in the kit and used this in my waterline.

Photobucket

Lips:
I used the deeper of the two colors here, then followed with the lip gloss. I love the gloss. The color is very versatile, and it smells and tastes great.

Photobucket

My take:
I like the versatility of the set. There are different looks that you can accomplish. If I wanted to use the deeper shade over my lid, I could get a very deep smokey blue look. I give the set a 5.

LOTD: Lauren Luke Panacea81 My Sultry Blues

Lips:
This really is a gorgeous color. I used the lighter of the two colors here (it is a bit shimmery), then followed with the lip gloss. I love the gloss. The color is very versatile, and it smells and tastes great.

Photobucket

Here is the deeper color, followed by the same gloss:

Photobucket

Here I used the deeper of the two colors on the outer corners, then the lighter shimmery color in the middle, followed with the lip gloss.

Photobucket

My take:
The colors are very natural and neutral, with just the right amount of rosy-pink, so they don’t look brown. They stay on well and feel moist.

I give the set a 5.

Review: Lauren Luke aka panacea81: Make up Palettes

You can read more about Lauren Luke aka panacea81 here.

Those of us who have found her on Youtube have followed her progress in beginning her line of colors. She has spoken about it on videos and taken us along on her journey. I wanted to see them before I purchased, though they intrigued me enough to buy without seeing them if I had to.

Make up Palettes
There are 5 sets of colors @ $37 each –My Sultry Blues, My Smokey Classics, My Luscious Greens, My Vintage Glams, and My Fierce Violets. They are very portable and easy to take with you if you were going to travel, a little large to throw in your purse.

What is included
Each set contains:
- 2 blendable primers – Nude Slip Dark & Nude Slip Light [the same in each palette]
- 3 eye colors – 1 large (main color), 2 small (contour and highlight)
- 1 eyeliner – Raven Black (small size)
- 1 contouring blush – large size
- 2 small size lip shades
- 1 My Glossy Lips lip gloss in Sheer [the same with each palette, a sort of mauvey clear]

Packaging
The packaging is very pretty. The outside is decorated with flowers. The inside includes labels for the colors, as well as a large mirror. The palette is quite large: approx 7 3/4″ by 5″ and a bit less than 1/2″ deep. It is nicely proportioned. I wouldn’t mind it being a bit smaller as long as the product stayed the same size, but I’ve not needed to reapply, so I don’t need to toss it in my purse.

And I just realized: there are color strips within the binding at the long end to make it easy to reach for the color palette you want to use. Great idea!

What about pigmentation?
The SA said they are heavily pigmented, and they are. I am very pleased with the three I own.

Where can you find them?
They will be available in the UK soon, if they are not already.

In the US, you can find them at Sephora online and at least in 150 of their stores. When I was in California, I went looking for it intentionally. The SA said she originally thought, Who is this person since she had never seen her videos or heard of her.

Which did I buy?
It was a toss up between the blue and the smokey. I bought the blue (Arbonne doesn’t have a blue.)

When I asked the SA which one sold the most, she thought perhaps it was My Smokey Classics, since there were less of those on the shelf. I purchased this later, along with My Fierce Violets.

The Green is similar to greens I wore in my youth. I expect they would look equally good now, but I’m not sure how much green I would wear, compared to the other colors. Plus, retro may not be a good choice for me, since I wore it once before. I thought it might be a bit yellow. I’d love to see a teal green set.

My Fierce Violets is similar to Glam, which is also very pretty. I’ll likely get Glam when I see it again, because they have nuances.

My take
I have tried 3 colors now: My Sultry Blues, My Fierce Violets, My Smokey Classics.
They are all 5 out of 5.

I love the blue set. Pictures of a look with My Sultry Blues here. I did two other looks with the blue palette: Look 2 and Look 3. I will likely get all the palettes, possibly not the green.

You can see 3 looks with the lip colors in My Sultry Blues here.

FOTD Review: Lauren Luke Panacea81 My Sultry Blues

I wish Lauren Luke all the success in the world, and I’m going to do my part in supporting her. You can read more about her at my previous post.

You can see her applying this set here:

Photobucket

My Sultry Blues is a lovely palette. I’ve used it for several days now, trying different combinations.

This set contains:
- 2 blendable primers – Nude Slip Dark & Nude Slip Light [the same in each set]
- 3 flattering eye colors – Continental, Sapphire Night & Star Dust
- 1 defining eyeliner – Raven Black
- 1 contouring blush – Wind Flush
- 2 luscious lip shades – Diamond Berry & Snow Berry
- 1 My Glossy Lips lip gloss in Sheer [the same in each set, a sort of mauvey clear]

Shadow primer
I thought the deeper shade would be too yellow on me, but it blends perfectly to match my skin tone. I suspect if your skin were more olive, it would pick up that and blend as perfectly. I might like it even better than the light, which surprises me.

Eyes:
I used the sparkly blue-white on my lids; the larger size medium blue in the crease; the small size deeper blue in the outer corners. I drylined with a combo of both deeper blues. Lined with the boot-black in the kit.

Photobucket

Liner:
It will be interesting to see if this dries out over time. I doubt it will, as there is no seal for it. It dries fast, no smudging.

Lips:
This really is a gorgeous color. I used the lighter of the two colors here (it is a bit shimmery), then followed with the lip gloss. I love the gloss. The color is very versatile, and it smells and tastes great.

My take: I give the set a 5.
I would definitely recommend this set. It is sophisticated, sultry. I like it as well as any Chanel or Dior set I’ve ever owned. I like the packaging: the flower on the outside. It makes me happy to use it.

I could easily throw this in a suitcase and go for a couple of weeks.

I wouldn’t mind if the size of the container were downsided, so long as the product remained the same size. That would make it more convenient to carry. OTOH, I do not have to retouch at all. It stays perfect all day.

You can see a second look here.

Lauren Luke aka panacea81: youtube phenomenon

Lauren Luke aka panacea81 on youtube is an Internet phenomenon.

Who is she?
Somehow I came across her videos months ago. She has gone from a gawky young woman with a beautiful spirit, to a more polished young woman, traveling the world on the strength of her number of views on youtube, which is based on her ability to do makeup beautifully, usually using her own face.

She seems like a genuinely nice person whose joy and excitement are infectious. I’m glad I’ve been following her journey. Her humility shines through. It couldn’t happen to a more deserving person. She fell into her niche more than nicely!

Her background
Because she was not a conventional beauty, she was teased in school — bullied really, called ‘fat’ and ‘ugly.’ She has since had her teeth redone, and her videos explaining how that came about and the process make you root for her.

You go, Lauren!

She wants everyone to feel their own beauty and not be limited by others.

You just want to hit everyone up the side of the head who mistreated her. She has earned her place in the sun by following her dreams. Too bad they didn’t realize her talent! It’s a lesson to learn when we are in the microcosm of school. Where will those who teased her end up? And that she has not let the bullying stop her innate talent and intelligence is a tribute to the human spirit.

How did she begin?
She began by filming in her bedroom in South Shields near Newcastle, in the UK, and she has attracted a staggering 36 million [and counting...] hits on YouTube with more than 288,000 subscribers.

She has been the makeup artist featured for Barry M cosmetics, which we cannot get in the USA, unfortunately. I’d like all that glitter!

What’s her style?
She talks to you like a friend with no pretense. And her accent is adorable, though it is not educated sounding. You can speed through her videos to watch her techniques or listen to her patter.

She inspires trust.

Her eye makeup is exceptional, no matter what colors or brands she uses.

She now has a book:

She launched her makeup line not too long ago. Her videos have talked a bit about traveling to NY during the formulating of it. More about her palettes here.
