This was my look Tuesday. Mary Kay minerals are really quite lovely. I was happy with the way this turned out. I was still thinking of the Arbonne Audrey and Smokey Eyes sets. So this is a combo of the ideas using Mary Kay.

Eyes:
I pretty much mixed the colors as I went.
Base: Nude Frost
Lids: Mary Kay Light Beige, then brown and medium blue
Drylined top and lower: medium blue
Mascara: Guerlain Le2
Concealer: Dior Skinflash
Brows: Chanel pencil

Primer: always, but I forgot which one
Foundation: Chanel
Powder: Guerlain meteorites
Blush: Meow Masterpiece Water Lilies + Bare Escentuals Cheerful

Lips: Arbonne Legend + Arbonne Bubblegum each on one lip, then smooshed -- Oh, I like this! DuWop reverse liner outside.

NYX Glitter Pallet is available in a number of colors online from Cherry Culture or in store at Ulta. This is from the Paradise pallet.

I got my hair cut today, and it surely needed it! Everywhere I went, someone mentioned how well they liked my eye makeup. The pink glitter is very becoming.

Eyes:
Base: Dior pink toned cream shadow
Crease: NYX Glitter Pallet Pink -- bright bubble gum color with multi light pastel glitter
Outer Corner: NYX GP Dark Black with Multi Glitter
Lined top in waterline: Mary Kay black eye pencil
Lined bottom in waterline with MAC graphblack, just outside with earthline
Drylined bottom outside MAC: Ulta Jade mineral powder looks green, pulls gold from the glitter
Mascara:
Top: Lancome Cils primer, Oscillation over it;
Bottom: Definicils
Blush: MAC Dollymix
Brows: Merle Norman powder

Highlight: my own shimmer powder mix, no time for anything else, topped with a bit on BE on my nose

Lips:
Revlon Wine with everything cream gloss
This is a very pretty color. I thought I might want to add silver glitter, but it has a gleam all its own. This is the formula I liked so well.

Again, I used DuWop Reverse Liner just to make sure it wouldn't migrate, but I don't know that I needed to. It's still going strong a couple of hours later.

Verdict:
I raced through trying this product for the first time in order to be on time for my hair cut. You can see how it went on uneven. The pallet has great colors and I will definitely try it again. It comes with 1 applicator with sponges on each end and 1 applicator that has a sponge on one end and a brush on the other. I don't see how you could use the brush. The product is suspended in a heavy gel. It's not particularly waxy, but it means the glitter stays put.

I used my finger to apply it because nothing else worked.

One reviewer talked about using this as liner and having to go over it several times to get it even, but that it lasted all night. I have other glitter liners that are a lot easier to use. I don't know that I would try this as liner. Maybe! She talked about using it on her face, arms, decolletage, etc.

I need to play with it some more, but meantime I look good enough to race around town anyway!

I'm still working with copper colors to see how I can wear them successfully. I was really happy with the pop of red today! I didn't get the idea until late in the afternoon.

The flash makes this look much more shimmery than it is in RL. The red pops nicely. It looks more like the second picture.

Eyes:
AL Bette Noir collection
Crease: Bette
Outer corner and worked into crease: Solange
Inner corner: Lisette to pop the copper. Dry Lined top and outside of pencil liner on the bottom with the same color, then used a damp brush over the bottom line to see if the color changed.
Mascara: Lancome Cils primer on top -- it worked good today. Generally, while it looks good, I'm not enamored with it. It's hard to see in white, and if it isn't done right, it looks clumped.
Lined lower: Mac blackgraph in wetline and earthline below it.
Top: Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara; bottom Lancome.
Brows: Merle Norman powder

Lips: NYX Goddess of the Night African Queen used with DuWop reverse liner.
Blush: Lip Pencil Jordana Magenta with one drop of moisturizer
Highlight: Elizabeth Arden Shimmer Powder up center of face -- I love this powder, but I should have used less.

Updated with Fiercely Fuchsia. I found this color at Target.

Revlon Cream Lip Gloss, ~ $9.99 is a great lip gloss! I can't say enough good about this gloss -- and I have a lot of different glosses. It is moist, but not sticky. It has no scent and no flavor, but you don't taste ingredients. It covers nicely, but doesn't feel or look like lipstick. My lips stay moist all day, even after all that is left is a stain.

The SA at CVS was helpful and had some interesting info. She said, even if the colors look similar (because I couldn't see much nuance between some of them) that they are put into stock from light to dark, left to right. And that if you want to try several, she suggested taking them somewhat from the left, the middle and the right. That way you would get a good selection.

Watch for CVS sales and be sure to use the CVS card that tracks your purchases because you get free money to spend every once in a while. This week all Revlon is 2/1 -- and there is a newspaper coupon for $1 off any Revlon color product. Sweet!

I use the DuWop Reverse Liner on darker colors just to make sure it doesn't migrate, but I don't know that I need to. It's still going strong a couple of hours later.

It looks fab on -- it might be in my top 3 right now. It glistens almost as if there were glitter (I love gloss with glitter) but there is no glitter in it. There is no frost; it is definitely a cream and covers nicely. It feels great! I couldn't quite capture the nuances of it here, but I tried.

Here's where I began:

Eyes:
Base: Nude Frost
Lids on both eyes: AL Lagoon (matte) in new shape
Left Lid: AL Lilypad satin petals frost added
I love Lagoon, but I didn't put a lighter color under today, so it was a bit uneven. And I didn't want straight matte. Adding the lilypad gave it a lustre and conversely both softened and deepened the tone.

After I took the picture, I finished the second eye the same and blended out a bit. Sorry my eye isn't completely closed here.

Here's my finished look:
Lined: top MK Bahama Blue; lower: Sephora Flashy Green
Mascara: Arbonne (both kinds) -- I've heard of a new technique. Using two kinds of mascara, one that lengthens and one that thickens. That makes more sense to me than two coats of mascara, which I never do (with the exception of using the clear Arbonne coat that comes with the 2 step mascara.) This is the first time I've tried it. The 2 step seems to thicken; the other to lengthen (which I did first.)
Brows: Anastasia Caramel wand
Concealer: Dior Skinflash
Nose: Mac Concealer, blended with triangle sponge -- the sponge works so much better than my fingers which only leaves me with polka dots.

Primer and foundation: Arbonne
Rouge: Chanel stick
Powder: my sparkly mix
Highlight: Guerlain Butterfly perles
Bronzer: small touch of Arbonne
Blush: L'Oreal Pink Glow, which is really a highlight/radiance, but I liked it as cheek color today
Lips: Arbonne + Beaute + Mac liner -- see my LOTD post for details. Lined outside with DuWop Reverse liner to keep it from drifting.

I am really happy with the way this turned out. I love the eyeshadow color.

Remember when you do shadow that no one sees the shadow in still life the way these photos show. Your eyes are always in motion. What might look uneven in the pictures does not look that way in RL.

There are a lot of tricks to the trade when you are talking about lips. Lip prep is a big part of it.

Lip Prep
Remove old lipstick staining from your lips with a gentle eye makeup remover or facial makeup remover.
Dry Lips
Always use a balm under your lipstick and consider some form of lipgloss over the top, at least in the center.

Here are some common complaints and their solutions:
Problem # 1 My lips are rough Remove all the dead skin.
Some people use a toothbrush, but I find that harsh.

I first used a 2 step program when Adrian Arpel had one that sold at Bloomies. It is possible to use a facial scrub on your lips, but the grains are larger, so I prefer to use one made especially for lips.

Here are some products I like that are gentle, but work. I like both of these equally. I prefer the Beauticontrol Balm, but both work equally well. I use whichever balm I feel like, but I always use the proper set together, if I am using the exfoliant from one brand, I use its balm.

Beauticontrol Lip Apeel $19.50 (1.25 oz) (2 step, like MK), can buy Balm separately for $10 (.25 oz)

Mary Kay Satin Lip Lip Mask, follow with MK Lip Balm -- $9.50 each for .3 oz each
A friend said this set cleared up her lips after using countless other balms that did not work.

Problem #2 Lipstick migrates into the lines outside my lips
Be sure to moisturize well around your lips. This will make the lines less prominent.

Be careful with dark shades, as this shows up more.

Use a less gooey formula or be careful how heavily you apply.

I find some of the lipsticks made to last all day are too drying for my lips, so I work around it.

Line lips with a pencil to hold your lipstick inside the line better
This works up to a certain point in age or appearance. After that, an invisible pencil works better.
You can use a pencil that matches your lipstick, one that contrasts (less modern look)(a dark visible line around a lighter lipstick), or one that matches your lip tone.

If you are using a color that is different than your lipstick color, you can actually change the shade -- experiment with a favorite lipstick and a variety of pencils. You can do this on the back of your hand or just as you apply your lipstick for the day. This gives you almost an infinite number of shades with a combination of lippies and pencils.

If your lip pencil has a lipstick brush at one end, you can use that brush to feather or move the lip pencil color into your lip area or use it to apply your lipstick.

You can use the pencil first and line only the outside edges of your lips, or you can fill in the whole lip a bit (I prefer that method) or you can line after you apply your lipstick (I like this method too.)

Use one of the clear/invisible lip pencils that are on the market to line outside your lip line outside the color of lipstick you are using
At a certain point, this works better than using a colored lip pencil (or can be used in conjunction with a colored one.) It stops the lipstick from migrating.

You can find these in several brands. Avon used to make one.

DuWop reverse liner is great. One made by Too Faced is supposed to be very similar.

Guerlain Kiss Kiss Liplift is a magic product

This cleared up my lips in one application after I hurt them with stinging lip plumpers. Every other lip balm known to man did not work. (At the time I didn't have Arbonne's that might have worked.) It is slightly colored, like a concealer, so you can use it to mask your lip color to make other lipsticks true to their shade, or to bring your lips back to a natural color if they are stained from other lip colors.

It's an expensive product, but one I will never be without.

Problem # 3 My top and bottom lip are not balanced; one is thinner than the other.
Use a lip pencil to draw at the top of the outside edge of your thinner lip. Experiment with drawing outside of your lip line to see if this looks natural or not. It depends on whether the outer edge of your lip has a distinct edge to it or not. You can often see on magazine pages that this has been done to many of the models. You might have to look closely, but they have done it. You want it to look natural in RL. Be sure to make sure that the points of your upper lip are centered under your nostrils. It looks strange if it is not.

You can use a slightly lighter shade of lipstick on your thinner lip. Or highlight only the center of that lip with gloss. Or use one of the techniques below for fuller lips.

Problem # 4 I want my lips to look fuller
Any of these ideas work, or a combination. It is possible to use one of these ideas on only one lip.
Use a darker lip color at the outer edges of your lips than the center.
You can do this by using one lipstick and layering the other over it in the middle. Or you can simply use one shade on the other edges and another on the inner, blending a bit where they come together. It isn't necessary to use a lip brush; you can work right with the tubes.
Use a navy eye pencil on the outer edge of your lips. Carefully. This really works!
Be sure to blend this into your lip color. Use a shade of navy that isn't too dark for your lip tone.
Use lip gloss in the center of your lips
Concentrate it on your bottom lip, then smoosh your lips together.
Use a lipstick made to enhance your lips.
Be careful what formula you use. I hurt my lips by using the same lipstick daily (wonderful color though!) by Cover Girl.
Buxom lip gloss by Bare Escentuals is very good and gentle. I love all the ones I have.

LipFusion is also good, perhaps a little less gentle. It comes in many colors.

Problem #5 My lip edge sometimes looks stained.
There are lip pencils that are skin toned. Use this carefully outside your lipstick color. You can also use a concealer for this purpose. The lip pencil will hold the line better than concealer, if lines outside the lip are a problem.

Rim your lips with a gloss. This really works and is a lovely look. You can choose a gloss that matches your lipstick, is lighter, a close shade or one that is different (say, a light apricot rim of gloss around a pink lipstick.) Experiment! I first saw this at the Beauté site. It really makes lips look both fuller and more youthful.

Problem # 6 I eat my lipstick off
Use a longer lasting formula or one that is less gooey when you know you are going to be eating.

I haven't found that blotting lipstick or powdering makes the lipstick last any longer. And I do not care for the way powder makes my lipstick feel. I do, however, like using AL Rocks! glitter over lipstick to add color or sparkle. It seems silkier than powder. I don't know if it adds any lasting power.

Try to be aware of working at your lips with your tongue or teeth.

Before you take a sip of a drink, lick your lips a bit. It forms a barrier between your lipstick and your cup or glass.

Use your fingers to wipe any lipstick off your cup or glass. It will make you more aware if you are losing more lipstick the next time you drink. Plus it looks nicer to those around you.

Use your teeth, barely your lips, to take food off silverware.

Break bread up into smaller pieces so you aren't using your lips to bite into it. Who wants to literally eat lipstick!

Cut up large sandwiches, such as hamburgers, and eat with a fork. Or blot your lipstick before eating. You don't want to get lipstick on your teeth or chin.

Problem # 7 I just feel like I look old
Update your look to follow one of the modern trends that work for you. Rim your lips with gloss -- it's surprising how well this works! Try it!

Try a stronger color in lipstick or try a lighter lipstick. Or both. Make sure you are wearing a tone and a shade that compliments your coloring.

If you change your hair coloring, you might have to change the depth of tone in your makeup, including lips, blush, and eyes.

Make use of the techniques above.

Partway through my makeup:
I took this picture to show subtle differences in lips/eyes/face.

Primer: AL
If I'm going to use minerals for foundation, I try to use a primer from a mineral company. I figure it is more compatible, true or not -- especially since I'm experimenting to get the look I like.
Foundation: AL 1 CL, which is an exact match to my skin -- applied by putting on brush dry, then spritzing with Clinique Moisture Surge -- this technique really makes minerals usable for me. They apply easier, spread farther, cover sheerly with less product, etc. I thought this looked perfect today. Very simple and fast.
Powder: BE feather light mineral veil This has some shimmer to it. I much prefer it to the regular mineral veil, which is too dark/yellow and matte for me.
Nose: Almost immediately it looked polka dotty, but I used a triangle sponge to blot at it. That seems to smooth it in, like buffing, and it covers and fills in with no dots. Whoo hooo!
Blush: Meow Hugs and Kitties + Arbonne Promise
Highlight: AL Magnolia Blossom

I was really pleased with the look of the foundation.

What are you up to today? I'm going to do some more house-sorting/errands/life in the fast lane. And try to enjoy summer.

Addendum: By the end of the day, the mineral foundation still looked perfect, as far as the finish went, but it looked dry, without being dry, if that makes sense. To touch my face, it felt normal/moist. To look at me, it still looked the same, but dry/ier. It no longer looked dewy. It magnified any little lines or settling I had in my face. This won't keep me from trying it again, especially on weekends for a quick makeup, now that I have a technique that works. But so far, with me, with my kind of skin, and the appearance of my skin at this time of life, a liquid or cream foundation looks better all day and is more flattering. I should have taken another picture, and next time I will if it does the same. The color was absolutely perfect, though!

I wanted very subtle changes today. I didn't want my lips to be too defined, but I want to get back into my pencils somewhat. Maybe. That is, if I like the looks. If not, the pencils will be set aside again.

Here's where I started.
Arbonne Lip Balm -- I nearly always start with a balm and at least end up with a gloss.
NYX African Queen gloss
This is just a gorgeous color, so vibrant. I lined it outside the line with DuWop reverse liner so it wouldn't migrate.

Here's where I ended:
Lined with: MAC magenta pencil --This pencil is very close to the color of African Queen.
Rimmed with BE Margarita I chose a color very close to the colors. I considered using a lighter color, but wanted to go with the same shade. I use a lip brush to rim. Occasionally I use the gloss applicator, but generally I use a lip brush. It places it better and easier.

This is a plumping formula and it made my whole lip tingle in a good way, just rimming it -- that surprised me! I usually wear BE glosses by themselves, not for rimming.

I had fun doing this. I kinda wanted to wear some of my Chanel colors again. So I opened them up and chose between different hues of brown, greys and pink. And I kinda wanted to stay with a fuchsia toned lippie.

It was a little tricky using the applicator (which is fairly large) to color my lips evenly. The colors are gorgeous! You can find these $4.00 online at Cherry Culture or in Ulta stores for $4.99, not available at Ulta online.

I used the DuWop Reverse Liner to hold the color for colors that are darker or more intense.

Gold Pink 131
The color is deeper and more of a wine than the photo shows.

Chandelier 157
This is really a gorgeous color. The picture doesn't do it justice. A really great light-medium orchid pink with a lot of sparkle. Every bit as nice as Too Faced; maybe not quite as sparkly.

Crystal Red 152
This is a beautiful red, shot with a lot of tiny glitters, more vibrant than this picture shows. I love it!

Ice Princess
In RL this looks pinker, but it is still very light. It has a lot of teeny sparkles in it, but you don't really see them on your lips.

Juicy Cherry
This is a clear cherry, with no micro shimmers.

Silver Plum
This is a deep plum with silver micro shimmers, which makes it look iridescent.

African Queen
This is a beautiful irridescent magenta.

How does it feel?
More glossy than some of their other formulas, but very moist. I tried it just by itself, but it would be nice as a touch over other lippies especially if you wanted to bring some bling into them.

Color story
It comes in a wide array of colors. I'd be willing to bet all of them are wonderful. Whoever is the creative director behind their colors gives other expensive brands a run for their money!

My recommendation
These are certainly worth your while to try. If you pick a color you know is you, then you will be very satisfied. Go for it!

4+ for gloss feel, a little slippery, but still nice, not sticky at all
4+ for lasting power, it might migrate a little, but not much
