Average eyes (or not)

Every tree and plant in the meadow seemed to be dancing, those which average eyes would see as fixed and still. ...

Everyone sees the unseen in proportion to the clarity of his heart, and that depends upon how much he has polished it. Whoever has polished it more sees more - more unseen forms become manifest to him.

If you are irritated by every rub, how will you be polished? Rumi

These quotes were arresting to me today. Do I see with only average eyes? Or do I see behind the view to the sparkling, numinous presence of Spirit behind and through it all?

I want the latter.

The past few nights I've sat and watched the rain fall. It sparkled when it hit the ground, even with the small amount of light there was.

I want life to sparkle. I don't want to settle for anything less. But realistically, there is an element of settling to everything...or at least acceptance. Perhaps I am the sparkle in my own life -- or perhaps it is my charge to bring sparkle, or recognize it, in my life. (I even like glitter in eye shadow, along with Heidi Klum -- I'm in fashionable company.)

The past couple of days I've been reading the book Something More: Excavating Your Authentic Self by Sarah Ban Breathnach who also wrote Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy.

I like her style of writing: short chapters, many quotes, and inspirational. It was very pithy. I took a lot of notes of quotes, but the above quotes from Rumi were not in it. It just sparked me to look for more of his.

What is your Something More? There's a balance between never being satisfied, or knowing, even if only intuitively, there is Something More but coming from a more settled place. OTOH, nothing new was ever accomplished by those satisfied with what already was.

What is calling out in your life to be new?
