Adopted woman meets her siblings and extended family

in Adoption, Quotations

This woman’s first article was in May. She detailed finding out for the first time that she was adopted when she was contacted by a ‘group of folks claiming to be my brothers and sisters.’  Her adoptive mother and father had never told her she was adopted. She thought she was an only child.

Her birth mother and her adoptive mother and father had all passed away.  With them gone, she felt she ‘could pursue this life-changing adventure wihtout fear of broken hearts.’

She met her sisters in July when they flew into Orlando.

More recently she wrote about going to visit her birth sibs and extended family.

She went to Maine to meet her brothers, aunts, uncles and ‘apparently opening a cosmic rift in the universe.’ (And she details the unusual things: bridge connecting Mount Desert Island to the mainland collapsed — no electricity; there was an earthquake — broken water mains; etc.)

The storm was nicknamed Nelia after her, at least locally by those who knew about her reunion.

"The lesson pounded into my head was that you always will encounter setbacks, heartaches and chaos along this journey of life. And, despite what they tell you, it never gets any easier. However, the kindness and support of another human being, family or even communities can do amazing things -- regardless of who you are, your views or your fears. Don't be afraid to reach out for help, or to reach to grab someone else's hand who is drowning in their own chaos. That touch very well may stop the storm."
