Gaining an edge

In the spirit of the mother who gets her daughter a fake $1300 tan for elementary school, in the face of how much younger and younger folks are trying to gain an edge, how DOES one obtain an edge in life?

Is it all looks and age? Is it truly that superficial? Or are looks and age a major component, especially in today’s world, but not all?

Education? Ability?

Determination and hard work?

Spirituality and prayer?

Networking and friendship?

The family or the country we were born into?

Luck of the draw?

I think of a young girl here who was absolutely gorgeous-gorgeous. Long, natural blond hair, etc. She was in cheer leading camp since she was about 3 and her group won competitively nationally. She was the quintessentially perfect cheerleader, not only in looks, but in ability. And the high school cheer team didn’t take her. It truly was ridiculous.

What have you observed in your own spheres?
