I live by this credo: Have a little laugh at life and look around you for happiness instead of sadness. Laughter has always brought me out of unhappy situations. Even in your darkest moment, you usually can find something to laugh about if you try hard enough. Red Skelton 1913-1997
Laugh at yourself, but don’t ever aim your doubt at yourself. Be bold. When you embark for strange places, don’t leave any of yourself safely on shore. Have the nerve to go into unexplored territory. Alan Alda
You don’t get to choose how you’re going to die. Or when. You can only decide how you’re going to live - now. Joan Baez
You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face… You must do the thing you think you cannot do. Eleanor Roosevelt
Choosing how to live is an ongoing process. Fear or sorrow would stop us in our tracks. But living boldly, living life in a large way, despite one’s sorrows or fears, open vistas of thought and experience that are honed in our soul and become a strength to others and in our next experiences.
I am touched by Eleanor Roosevelt’s strength, purpose and love that carried her forward in the face of her difficult home life. She didn’t sit in misery, but went out to serve others in whatever capacity she had. She never considered herself beautiful, but pictures of her wedding day belie a lack of beauty. She had a beautiful soul.
Red Skelton brought to countless people his gift of gentle laughter from the crucible of his own soul. He knew hard times and deep sorrow. His paintings, mostly of clowns, are rich with empathy toward his subject matter. He knew the importance of laughter in life, especially when one is down.
I love Alan Alda’s
When you embark for strange places, don’t leave any of yourself safely on shore.
Make the leap.
