Bollywood! a little fun for a Saturday night or whenever

If you haven’t had the fun of seeing a Bollywood movie, I recommend them. I’ll post a few favorites over the next few days.

They are pretty standard fare, follow a predictable storyline, are quite innocent, (mostly) all musicals, have lots of colorful costumes and plenty of dancing, with interesting camera angles. The women are mostly all beautiful or caricatures. The men are the same, handsome or a character.

My daughter’s roommate at college is Indian-American. She has introduced us to a number of movies we might not have found. She herself speaks no Hindi (or little) so they are all subtitled, though this song on youtube is not.

She tells us that the songs are all lip synced. Intentionally they have different singers than the actresses/actors in order to employ more people in the industry. I have no way of confirming or denying this. It is just what we were told.

Additionally, I am going to post a link on the front page to a free Indian-American magazine (Khabar) available in Atlanta and the SE USA. It offers reviews of movies and the stars as well as current I-A news and lots of beautiful advertising. I’m sure it would interest those who adopted from India. Many of the articles are online, so you can read them whether you are in their distribution area or not.
