Parenting in the midst of sunnamis

as i move into the adult-to-semi adult relation stage w/ my new college freshman daughter, i can see the patterns of our communication shifting…but we have not left the emotional sunamis completely behind. i know i say stuff in words i don’t mean and sometimes i need to clarify, sometimes she needs to hear my hurt, sometimes we just forget and become stupid. Cynthia at IAT, with permission.

I thought Cynthia captured it well, using the word sunnami. It’s not a word I would have come to on my own, but it is certainly descriptive.

And it might be descriptive of other relationships as well.
